5 Indian Telecom Industry A Snapshot 2nd largest wireless subscriber base in the world after China As on 31 st December 2008, number of subscribers at mn mn subscribers added during 2008 Average monthly additions at about 10 mn Subscriber base growth at a whopping 48.5% during 2008 All India tele-density at 33.23% at the end of December Urban tele-density at around 61.3%, while rural at an abysmally low level of around 8.4%, as per December 2007 data Mobile penetration in India at 30.0%, compared to 37.6% in Asia, 28.4% in Africa, 72.2% in Americas and 111.3% in Europe (source: International Telecom Union, except for India) (all figures are for 2007, except for India at Dec 2008) Present number of telecom towers at around 200,000 5
6 An Attractive Outlook Telecom landscape in 2012: How will it look? (Source: CII-E&Y report - Nov. 2008) Total telecom subscriber base expected to reach ~700 mn (wireless base ~650 mn) Telecom penetration expected to reach 58-60% (rural penetration at 40%) The blended ARPU is expected to stabilize at ~Rs150 /subscriber/month by 2010 MOU is projected to stabilize at ~520 minutes/subscriber/month by 2012 Total number of telecom towers estimated at around 450,000 by 2012 Expected industry-wide capex of around INR 1 tn Phenomenal growth for wireless subscriber base owing to Focus on expansion in the rural areas Increase in coverage area by service providers Perception of mobiles from luxury to necessity New service providers offering attractive (affordable) tariffs 6
7 Changing Industry Landscape Recent guidelines issued by the DoT on mobile number portability and 3G technology would result in additional towers to be installed (over and above the present estimates of around 450,000 towers by 2012). BSNL s aggressive plan to roll out WiMax technology would open new opportunity for turnkey infrastructure rollout. Besides BSNL, companies like Tata and Reliance are also proposing huge investments in the WiMax technology, which would give additional boost to the revenues of companies like Nu Tek. 7

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Expected to be implemented by mid-2009 Telecom service providers to retain their existing customers and attract competitors customers by Providing better network coverage Providing better services competitively Consequently, operators to roll-out additional towers entailing further business opportunity for Nu Tek Operators would also invest heavily on network optimization and in-building solutions, which includes installation of repeaters and signal boosters. All these services are already being offered by Nu Tek 8
9 Changing Industry Landscape Contd.. 3G Rollout BSNL and MTNL recently launched their respective 3G services. Also, 3G spectrum and license bidding for private players expected in near future Operators assigned with higher frequency spectrum would invest in new tower installations Maintaining the similar quality of service (as provided presently in 2G operations) would require more number of towers for a given coverage area Nu Tek has an early mover advantage since it executed a pilot project for Motorola on MTNL Delhi 3G network Further, these new 3G networks would require network optimization, a service already being offered by Nu Tek 9

WiMax State run BSNL is planning an aggressive investment in the WiMax technology Tata, which is already providing WiMax services in Bengaluroo, is set to invest USD 500 mn to provide services in another 15 cities Opportunity for companies like Nu Tek (for the infrastructure rollout services and alternate delivery models such as front-ending equipment sales) Nu Tek has trained in-house resources for the WiMax technology The company foresees OEMs as potential clients servicing telecom operators like BSNL, Tata, Reliance, etc. 10
