12 Opportunities for Access & Use of GRI Provenance Data Make clear what resources are available and where they are located Create links between resources to allow for searching across sections of archival collections and datasets Facilitate comparing multiple resources simultaneously Enrich descriptive metadata, and therefore discoverability, by leveraging provenance data Make connections to resources found in other repositories Integrate crowdsourcing activities to produce new knowledge

13 Finding Aid Enrichment with Inventory Card Data Metadata from inventory cards will be used to enhance and enrich access to the Series VII. Photographs section of the finding aid Add object titles to the finding aid, which currently contains artist name and stock number Will provide better access points and map connections within the collection, especially for digitized photographs

14 The Getty Provenance Index (GPI) Databases The GPI was established in the 1980s as print publication series Databases were designed in the proprietary database system to support production of the print publications Databases contains over 1.5 million records from primary source documents Recent shift to focus on Getty Research Institute s Special Collections materials, Goupil & Knoedler Stock Books projects Multilingual and historical data

16 Getty Provenance Index Remodeling (PIR) Project Goals Improve access and usability of the Provenance Index by updating the infrastructure and incorporating significant advances in digital technology, especially Linked Open Data Create art-historical resources to facilitate its use in supporting the new research demands of the field Strengthen the conceptual and material relationships between the data in the Provenance Index and related resources, such as the GRI s Special Collections materials
