Teradata Tools and Utilities Release Definition provides an overview of the products that now support Apple OS X. It contains important information received late in the release not included in other documentation associated with this release. 11 CHAPTER 1 Release Information This chapter provides an overview of the products and features in Teradata Tools and Utilities Key Features Table 1 lists major enhancements made to the Teradata Tools and Utilities suite of products. The enhancements include support for Teradata Database features and Teradata Tools and Utilities-specific improvements. Note: Not all of the enhancements in this release were made to all of the products in the Teradata Tools and Utilities suite. The Request for Changes sections in Chapter 2: Product Information list descriptions of enhancements for each product. These sections list the contents of the DVDs. Some DVDs contain additional products that are required by one or more of the primary products on that DVD. The DVDs on which these additional products are stored might be limited to specific operating systems. To install a product on all supported operating systems, use the DVD on which the product is listed as a primary product. In the United States, Teradata Tools and Utilities are available for electronic software distribution that consists of a downloadable file for each specific platform that contains the installation packages, necessary install scripts and support files. Note: Teradata Wallet is also included with the products that support it. Teradata Tools and Utilities (BCD ) There are three types of utilities on the Teradata Tools and Utilities DVD. All Teradata Tools and Utilities installation packages are updated to support the current release. To ensure the highest quality and best performance of Teradata Tools and Utilities products, the most recent, critical, post-production updates can be downloaded from the Teradata Software Server, through Your Service at SLES 11 A compatibility library must be installed in order for Teradata Tools and Utilities to run on Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise 11. 21 CHAPTER 2 Product Information This chapter provides the following information about each of the products, database tools, and utilities included in the Teradata Tools and Utilities 14.10: Product versions certified with this release Supported Teradata Database Versions Documentation associated with the product Miscellaneous release notes Enhancements and resolved issues associated with each product for this release To ensure the highest quality and best performance of Teradata Tools and Utilities products, the most recent, critical post-production updates can be downloaded from the Teradata Software Server. Product Discontinuances Teradata Query Director functionality had been replaced by Unity Director. Unity Director is released separately from Teradata Tools and Utilities. Refer to Teradata Unity User Guide (B ). Meta Data Services has been removed from the Teradata Utility Pack and can now be ordered as a separate product. Teradata Tools and Utilities Command Summary has been discontinued. Product Compatibility All Teradata Tools and Utilities products invoked on a system must be from the same base release. For example, if you upgrade to Teradata MultiLoad 14.10, you must also upgrade the additional products supplied on the DVD that are required by Teradata MultiLoad (such as Teradata CLIv2, Teradata GSS, and Teradata ICU) to the release. 22 Basic Teradata Query Utility Basic Teradata Query Utility Product Version Number The Basic Teradata Query Utility (BTEQ) is a general-purpose, command-based program that allows workstation users to communicate with one or more Teradata Database systems and format reports for print and monitor output. BTEQ Supported Teradata Database Versions Teradata Database Teradata Database 14.0 Teradata Database Teradata Database 13.0 Teradata Database 12.0 Documentation Basic Teradata Query Reference (B ) Release Notes Table 4: BTEQ Release Notes Issue CLAC-2329 Teradata Data Connector now internally handles all file I/O for EXPORT commands. Based on this change, certain BTEQ behavior has been affected, as described below. In previous releases, Workstation BTEQ only allowed file sizes greater than 2 GB when the standalone AXSMOD keyword was used for DATA and INDICDATA formats. For example:.export DATA FILE = 'EXPORT.DAT' AXSMOD This limitation has been lifted. BTEQ now allows file sizes to be greater than 2 GB for all types of exports. Also in previous releases, Workstation BTEQ ignored the AXSMOD option for the EXPORT command if an OPEN or CLOSE option was also specified. This meant that an Access Module could not be used under those conditions. That restriction has been lifted, allowing the AXSMOD and OPEN/CLOSE options to be processed for a single EXPORT command. As before, Workstation BTEQ will continue to open export files in write mode when either the CLOSE or the AXSMOD keyword is used. This means that any contents in the file will be overwritten. Without the CLOSE or AXSMOD keyword, Workstation BTEQ will open the export file in append mode. 22 Teradata Tools and Utilities Release Definition, Release 14.10

However, since there is no way for BTEQ to tell if the associated request was a single-statement or multi-statement request, the potential existed for the retry to cause a data integrity issue. In addition, these error codes will no longer cause the associated request to be retried: 2827 Request was aborted by user or due to statement error A unique index has been invalidated; resubmit request Concurrent change conflict on replication group -- try again Transaction aborted due to replication transport outage. CLAC-5668 CLAC Workstation BTEQ will now send table change event messages when it detects an enabled TMSM Client and its new TMSMMSG command can be used to report informational messages about each event. However, TMSMMSG command is supported only for those Workstation BTEQ platforms where TMSM is supported. See manuals for Teradata Multi-System Manager at for more info on TMSM. A new keyword DEFERCOLS was added as synonym to LOBCOLS for the IMPORT command. Both are identical in functionality. Since the ElicitData protocol can be used for eliciting both LOB as well as XML data, using the DEFERCOLS keyword will sound more generic in cases where XML or a mixture of LOB and XML data is being elicited. The message is displayed when the SKIP=1 option is specified with an IMPORT command. For example, here is what used to be displayed through z/os BTEQ:.IMPORT INDICDATA DDNAME='IMPFILE' SKIP=1 1 input rows skipped. Following is what is displayed now through z/os BTEQ:.IMPORT INDICDATA DDNAME='IMPFILE' SKIP=1 1 input row skipped. This change is consistent with what already occurs for network-attached systems. When connected to a Teradata Database, BTEQ will report the affected rows of a MERGE statement using both aggregate and non-aggregate values, in order to give the user more details regarding the results. For example, given the following SQL statement: MERGE INTO table1 USING table0 ON a1=a0 WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET b1=b0+1 WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT (a0, b0); BTEQ may produce the resulting 2-line informational message: *** Merge completed. 2 rows affected. One row inserted, one row updated, no rows deleted. When connected to an earlier version of the Teradata Database, BTEQ will report the affected rows of a MERGE statement using only an aggregate value, the way it has done in the past. For example, the same SQL statement would produce the resulting 1-line informational message: *** Merge completed. 2 rows added or changed. BTEQ's behavior towards NULLs in input (stdin or RUN file) BTEQ ignores trailing NULL characters in input (ones which immediately precede the ending newline for any given input line). In previous releases, user input which contains leading or embedded NULL characters may cause unexpected results. Starting with release 14.10, BTEQ will now issue a run-terminating error if any leading or embedded NULLs are found in the input. 24 Teradata Tools and Utilities Release Definition, Release 14.10

This option enables inhibiting the echoing of SQL requests which BTEQ would normally do in case of ECHOREQ ON. In case the SQL returns a DBS Failure/Error, the request text is printed once after the first Failure/Error message is displayed. When ERRORONLY is in effect and the SQL request was issued with a REPEAT factor greater than 1, it may be the case that there is more than one error response and that the first error may not be for the first response sequence. For the duration of the REPEAT, only one instance of request text echoing will be done. The ERRORONLY option does not have any effect on BTEQ commands and all BTEQ commands will continue to be echo-ed even if ERRORONLY is used. Note: The behavior for BTEQ commands to be treated as ON for ERRORONLY case may change in a later release, where failed BTEQ commands will behave same way as failed SQL requests, in which case, the BTEQ command will not be echo-ed but will be printed if it fails A new command SHOW was added which can be used to display the last SQL request sent to database. The.SHOW command can be used even if ECHOREQ is set to OFF. You can use the SHOW command in a Teradata SQL macro. However, note that if a "ECHO '.SHOW';" SQL is used in a macro, that actually becomes the last SQL request, in which case, the SHOW command would always return "ECHO '.SHOW';" itself. The only way to get the last SQL request using SHOW command in a macro is to use the "ECHO'.SHOW';" SQL in a multistatement request A z/os BTEQ bug was fixed, where, if SET MAXERROR command is used to set a maximum error severity level, then upon receiving an error of greater severity, z/ OS BTEQ was printing the DBS Error/Failure code but not the corresponding message before exiting. Now, z/os BTEQ prints both Error/Failure code and message before it exits (like Workstation BTEQ). Inconsistent results may occur with z/os BTEQ when records are being read from a dataset (via the IMPORT command) while records are being written to the same dataset (via the EXPORT command). Specifically, newly written records may not be read until the dataset is closed and then re-opened. In general, having the same dataset opened via the IMPORT command and the EXPORT command at the same time is highly discouraged. Using different datasets for imports and exports is the recommended practice. Enhancements Enhancements are new features and changes that enhance the operation of Teradata Tools and Utilities software. Teradata Tools and Utilities Release Definition, Release

Documentation Only - The REPORTALIGN command has new examples. BTEQ will be able to generate a meaningful success message for the SQL statement SHOW containing the "IN XML" clause and will display the expected XML form of the DDL text. Documentation Only - Reference to the encoding of SQL stored procedure files has been corrected. BTEQ z/os will again handle an export when its file is already opened from a previous import. BTEQ will now strip surrounding quotes from TDPid part of the LOGON command. BTEQ will again allow an EXPORT command before being logged on. BTEQ will no longer insert unwanted space characters in the DDL from SHOW for a Stored Procedure or a non-stored Procedure object. BTEQ now properly handles multi-byte UTF8 column titles when the REPORTALIGN command is used. BTEQ now correctly processes the first NULL field from HELP statements within UTF16 sessions. BTEQ, when running in UTF-16 mode (meaning I/O is UTF-16 and session charset is also UTF-16), will ignore the trailing tabs/blank spaces after the semicolon which denotes the end of a SQL request, just like when running in non-utf- 16 mode. Oversized non-aggregate WITH values no longer cause seg fault (core dump) after query is returned.
