8 Secure Connect to database instance & database name Database owner add users Two types of authentication: Operating system (OS) Database SANBI - OS - don t keep track of passwords 8

9 Connection issues Error: Instance name spelt incorrectly. Solution: Copy and paste correct text into instance text field Problem: Older version of SQL Solution: Download appropriate version (32 or 64-bit) of SQL Server client Problem: Standalone license and older version of ArcGIS 10 Solution: Make sure everyone in your organisation has the same version of ArcGIS 9

17 Versioning Multiple users access & edit the same data SIMULTANEOUSLY Viewers work with default version All ArcSDE s have a default can t be deleted Editors create child versions. NOT a duplication. Viewers connected to other versions don t see edits editors push changes into default version 17

18 Versioning Long transaction edits takes forever don t want to lock data Flag conflicts during a reconcile WHAT IS A CONFLICT? 2 editors one dataset, different/same version row differ in the versions Reconciliation process choose representation to preserve Post changes & delete version MORE INFO HERE (VIDEO) 18

19 Editor Tracking Records the following Name of creator AND editor Date & time of creation AND edits Accountability & control standards Most editing operations are recorded Tracking applies to existing datasets ONLY 19
