2 In the Beginning or Since 1998 Arc Info version 7.0 Oracle version 7 HP Work Stations AutoCAD drawings were converted to ESRI s Librarian and ArcStorm. GIS data was used for the OMS, outage management system

18 Solution: SDE Problems & Errors G-Server Connections SDE command: sdemon o o kill Remove the user s license with the license manager Direct Connections SDE kill command doesn t t work Remove the user s license Shutdown ArcSDE

20 SDE Problems & Errors MaxTimeDiff Parameter Problem: Certain clients could connect to the database, but would cause SDE to crash Lost connectivity and data Users couldn t t log on SDE shutdown hard Reason: Time differences between server and client Solution: Re-set the clock on the client to match the server. Increased the time setting on the parameter Turn the parameter off

21 SDE Problems & Errors SDE Crash and Restart Problem: SDE was locked-up and wouldn t respond to commands. Reason: SDE system files weren t t closed after crash Solution: Remove the hung SDE processes with Unix commands Kill Kill the SDE processes Delete Delete the system files from tmp

22 SDE Problems & Errors Problem: Compressing the database to a State Id of zero Reason: Locked tables due to connected users and hung processes Solution: Remove users and the tables will be unlocked. Also, may have to stop and re-start SDE to clear out processes.

23 SDE Problems & Errors Problem: Compressing the database to a State Id of zero. Reason: Orphaned records in the states table; record for the Default version was incomplete. Solution: Used SQL to remove the orphaned records.

24 SDE Problems & Errors Problem: SDE wouldn t t connect to database and didn t t give an accurate error message for the problem. Deleted & recreated version Checked editor s s software Checked network Solution: In Oracle, the client s s table space allocation was set too low. Increased table space. Other users could see and edit version ESRI is adding it as an enhancement

25 Data Errors & Problems Data Errors that occur Node ID s s = 0 Connection Annotation Status = null Not visible Connectivity 2 nodes at same location Network problems

26 Data Errors & Problems Problem: Annotation is not visible. Reason: In the annotation table, status field is set to null. Unknown as to why. Solution: Manually add value to the status field.

27 Data Errors & Problems Problem: Unable to reconcile and post edits to the version. Reason: Bad record in the A and D tables for a feature due to an incomplete edit. Solution: Log in as the SDE Administrator Change to user s s version Reconcile and post version

28 Non-Data Errors Problem: Map document crashes/fatal error occurs when opening. Log in with password Document opens Error immediately occurs Reason: Corrupted layer in the Table of Contents.

29 Non-Data Errors Solution: Don t t connect to data source when opening Remove the layer Connect to data source Save the document Add the layer back Save

30 Non-Data Errors Problem: Map document crashes/fatal error occurs when attempting to print. Reason: Printer configuration has changed since the map document was last used. IT Dept. replaces printer/plotter or changes a setting. Use the same IP address for the network printer/plotter.

31 Solution: Non-Data Errors Replace the map document doesn t t always work. Change printer/plotter to a different printer in map document and save. Close map document. Add printer/plotter to computer. Open map document. Select the new printer/plotter Save map document.

32 Non-Data Errors Problem: Map document crashes/fatal error occurs when attempting to perform an edit operation. Reason: Symbology for a layer was not found or recognized.

33 Non-Data Errors Solution: Remove the layer Save the document Add the layer back Reset the symbology for the layer GMA Render Tool custom tool that updates the feature with correct symbol Save document

34 Actual Tech Calls Problem: Can t t see the transformers. Solution: Check the display box in the Table of Contents. Problem: Can t t see any data, my GIS is broken. Solution: Used the wrong password. Problem: Can t t see the Table of Contents. Solution: Go to View and turn on the Table of Contents.
