1 Translation Process for Overseas and Import Vendors 1. Lionbridge will complete Desktop Publishing for all projects. Desktop publishing is the act of placing the translated text into the Packaging or Instruction Manual layout Lionbridge will complete the desktop publishing for all projects submitted by Overseas and Import Vendors Files will not have to be sent back for proofreading. The file that Lionbridge delivers is the final file ready to be sent to Lowe s for final approval to print. Please note that Overseas Vendors are responsible for making any adjustments to the source files or printable PDFs so that they match the specifications of the local printers. 2. What kind of file should be uploaded? Please upload Adobe InDesign file (preferred format) or Illustrator file to Freeway as the source file for translation. Instructions for <SUBMITING A PROJECT> are below. Please see Example A. Please also upload a PDF of the project as a Reference File on the Project Submission page under Reference Files. A Reference File assists the translators with the translation and Desktop Publishing of the project. It is used as a visual reference only and will not be used in any other way. Instructions for <UPLOADING A REFERENCE FILE> are below. Please see Example B. By supplying an Adobe InDesign file, Lionbridge will be able to quickly prepare the file by extracting, translating and desktop publishing the text and provide the final deliverable ready to be approved by Lowe s. When uploading an Adobe InDesign file you will need to provide all necessary fonts and any images that need to be edited. All of the text MUST BE EDITABLE; all external images must be included as well as files external to InDesign. Please upload all instruction manuals and packaging that you need translated into ONE PROJECT. Making multiple projects for individual manuals and packaging will slow down the process. If you have files that need to be uploaded after the project has already been created, the files will need to be uploaded as an <ADDITIONAL HANDOFF> to the existing project. Creating multiple projects will slow down the process significantly and will cause higher costs. UPLOAD AS MANY FILES AS POSSIBLE, THAT DEALS WITH THE SAME CATEGORY, UNDER ONE PROJECT. Instructions for adding <ADDITIONAL HANDOFF> are below. Please see Example C. It is very important that all files, fonts and images are properly uploaded when the project is created in order to meet requested delivery dates.

2 Please try to make an effort to upload all corresponding files in the beginning so that no time is lost Download your finished project from Freeway. Please see Example D. 3. What if there are copy changes made after Lionbridge has completed the translations? If changes are made to the English copy after Lionbridge has made the final delivery you will then need to create a new project with the updated file Lionbridge will make the appropriate changes. Please mention in the special instruction that this is an update from project # Please also upload a PDF of the English version with changes clearly marked 5. How long will it take for a 4000-word instruction manual to be translated and desktop published? The average turn around time for a 4000-word instruction manual to be translated and desktop published is 8-10 business days. This allows 1-2 business days for quoting and analysis. This average indicates that all the appropriate files, fonts and images have been uploaded during the initial handoff. If supplemental materials are needed or if files are corrupt, then the process will take longer. 6. What if I am unable to log onto Freeway or access the Internet? If you are having trouble accessing the Freeway portal or your file is larger than 150MB then you have 2 options: 1) lowes.mtl@lionbridge.com to request your FTP access. (you will received an with you credentials to access the FTP) 2) Send your files via FedEx to: Lionbridge Canada, Team Lowe s 465, rue McGill, bureau 700 Montréal (Québec) H2Y 2H1 CANADA If you are sending files via the FTP site or via FedEx, please include your name, your company name and the services that you are requesting.

3 Example A SUBMITTING A PROJECT FOR TRANSLATION Please submit your Adobe InDesign Files through Freeway. Once you submit the project, Lionbridge s project managers are notified via and they will begin to form the quote. 1. Go to Lowe s Link (loweslink.com) and click on <New Partner Information> 2. Click on <Translations>

4 3. Click on the <Freeway > to login 4. Enter your username and password and click <Log In>

5 5. Click on <Projects> 6. Click on <Create Project>

6 7. Browse for the Adobe InDesign files that you would like to upload. You may upload one Adobe InDesign file at a time. You must select the Target Languages shown; the Services shown; and click upload for each file associated with the project.

7 8. Once you upload all the appropriate Adobe InDesign files you will see them listed at the bottom of the screen. One file is shown for each language. Please click <Continue> If you realize that you ve uploaded the wrong file you can click on the Red X and the file will be deleted.

8 9. Please name your project in the <Project Description> field. Next, include any Special Instructions that you may have in the <Special Instructions> box. Then indicate a <Required Start Date> and <Required End Date>. **Please indicate realistic turn around times. If you would like for your project to be rushed please type <RUSH> in the <Project Description> field along with your project name. Depending on availabilities Lionbridge might be able or not to provide rush services. Please upload a PDF of the final layout as a <Reference File>. Instructions on how to upload a <Reference File> are below. If you are not submitting a Reference File, please click <Submit Project>. Example B UPLOADING A REFERENCE FILE Reference files are any supplementary materials that will help the translators understand the subject matter through pictures or previously approved translations. You have the

9 option to upload reference files when you create a new project. The Step 2 of 2 Create project page shown below is where this can be done. Once you have filled out all the necessary fields on this page, you may upload all reference files in the section circled below. Click <Browse> to select the reference file for upload. Once you have selected the document, click <Upload> and the name of the file will appear in the box below. You must do this for each individual reference file that you would like to upload. Once all reference files are uploaded, click <Submit Project>. Example C ADDING ADDITIONAL HANDOFFS If you have an existing project and would like to upload ADDITIONAL reference files or missing files, please refer to the instructions below. Please note that this is only

10 possible if we haven t delivered your project yet and that the word count is not large enough to change the price bracket (0-100 words). Or, if we just received your project and haven't done your quote already. If the word count is very large, please create a new project. Login to Freeway and search for your project by typing the project number into the left hand column Click on the tab that reads <Assets>

11 Click on <Add Handoff> In the box titled <Name>, please indicate what type of hand-off it is (ie. Reference File). Next, in the <Description> section, please explain what are the additional files. Next, click <Browse> to select the file that is being uploaded. Then, select the language target language of the project under <Languages>. Once this is completed, please click <Upload>. You will see the file you have uploaded and the target language. Please click <Submit Hand-off> to send files to Lionbridge.

12 Example D Downloading my project from Freeway Once your project is complete you will receive an from a Lionbridge Project Manager indicating that you can pick you project up on Freeway. Login to Freeway and search for your project by typing the project number into the left hand column.

13 Click on the tab <Assets> Click on the <Files> tab beside <Deliveries> and click the box next to <Pre-packaged Deliverables>. Then click <Download Selected>. The files will then be downloaded directly onto your desktop.
