5 Introduction We are pleased to send you the latest revision of Kodak UpFront software. These release notes highlight the changes and improvements that were made to release 4.0 of Kodak UpFront software. Where appropriate, they refer you to the Kodak UpFront 4.0 User Guide for more information. Changes made after the User Guide was published are described in detail in these release notes. For information about installing the Kodak UpFront software, see the Kodak UpFront 4.0 Installation and Deployment Guide, B-EN Rev C. What Is in These Release Notes The release notes include the following sections: New Features describes new menu commands, options, windows, or dialog boxes that were added to Kodak UpFront software. Enhancements describes improvements that were made to existing features. Problems Fixed lists problems in the previous release of Kodak UpFront that are now resolved. Known Problems and Limitations lists problems that are not yet resolved and limitations.

6 2 Kodak UpFront Release Notes New Features This section lists features that were added in the new release of Kodak UpFront software. Marks Using the New Marks Palette Kodak UpFront 4.x features a new Marks palette for single-location (centralized) mark access and usage. You can access all Preps marks and Diagram marks via this palette. You can manage all mark libraries and handle all mark placement on the layout from this floating palette. The Marks palette is accessed from the Tools menu. It contains three areas: Libraries, Marks on <layout name> and Properties. By default, the Libraries area is locked, and the parameters in the Properties area are read-only. If you have the required access level, you can unlock the palette with the appropriate password. Note: The Marks palette includes new features for working with Preps marks. These new features are described later in this document. The Diagram marks functionality remains the same as in the previous version.

7 New Features 3 Placing Preps Marks Relative to Page or Gutter Kodak UpFront 4.x enables you to place Preps marks relative to the page and relative to the gutter in addition to placing Preps marks relative to the sheet. In the Properties area of the Marks palette, you can set the positioning of the mark relative to the page or gutter by choosing a reference point on the mark (Mark Anchor) and a reference point on the page or gutter (Page Anchor or Gutter Anchor). 8 4 Kodak UpFront Release Notes Using the New Indication of a Preps Mark Overlap on a Page Kodak UpFront 4.x features a new indication of an overlap of a Preps mark on the page. The overlap icon appears next to the mark name in the Marks on layout area and in the Properties area of the Marks palette. The Marks on layout area of the Marks palette also contains the total number of overlapping marks in the Press Layout. Zoom Options Kodak UpFront 4.x features a new zoom functionality in the Press Layout and Layout Plan. The new side toolbar contains the following zoom tools: Zoom In, Zoom Out, Zoom To Fit, and Hand tools as well as the Select (Element) and Select Section tools.

9 New Features 5 Preferences Using the New Finishing & Press Preferences Tab The Preferences dialog box contains the new Finishing & Press tab that enables you to define the default binding styles, equipment and finished trim size for Kodak UpFront Job Builder.

10 6 Kodak UpFront Release Notes Enabling the Attach Preps Signature Option The Preferences dialog box contains the new Attach Signature tab that features a new option that enables you to use the Attach Preps Signature option. Attaching an Existing Preps Signature to a Press Layout Kodak UpFront Planner now enables users to attach an existing Preps signature to a particular Press Layout. You can view and compare the Press Layout and the Preps signature. This feature streamlines the production and the integration between Preps and Kodak UpFront and shortens the time for impositioning. Kodak UpFront Job Builder indicates which Press Layouts have a Preps signature attached to them. When you export an Kodak UpFront Job that contains one or more press layouts, the Preps template that is created does not include signatures for the press layouts that have a Preps signature attached to them. Moreover, if the Kodak UpFront Job that you export includes only one press layout, and this press layout has an attached Preps signature, a Preps template is not created.

11 New Features 7 Exporting Diagrams to PDF Files Kodak UpFront 4.x features a new option for exporting diagrams to PDF files and saving these files at a user-defined location. Importing Bindery Signature Breakdown With a JDF File When you import a JDF file from an MIS system to Kodak UpFront Job Builder, the bindery signature breakdown from the stripping parameters in the JDF file is automatically inserted in the Kodak UpFront Job and is displayed in the Binding Sequence list of the Binding Section Sequence window.

12 8 Kodak UpFront Release Notes Enhancements This section lists features that were improved in this release of Kodak UpFront software. Features that were modified as a result of a problem in the software are described in Problems Fixed on page 12. Marks Placing Preps Marks Relative to Sheet Note: This feature is relevant to marks of the Single File Marks type only. When you define a Preps mark on a sheet, previously the mark reference point was always bottom left. Now, you can choose one of nine reference points on the mark (Mark Anchor). 13 Enhancements 9 Maintaining Reference Points When Copying Preps Marks When you copy a mark on the layout by dragging the mark while you press the CTRL key, the defined reference points on the Position tab of the Properties section on the Marks palette, are maintained. Preferences Using a Centralized Preferences Dialog Box Kodak UpFront 4.x features a single location for all settings and preferences of Kodak UpFront Planner and Job Builder. The Preferences dialog box is accessed from the Tools menu. You can define and update all preferences of Kodak UpFront Planner and Kodak UpFront Job Builder in this single dialog box whether you are in Kodak UpFront Planner or Kodak UpFront Job Builder. Kodak UpFront Planner and Job Builder share these settings. The Preferences dialog box contains the following groups of settings that were previously found in the Options menu: Settings Preps Settings Print Diagram Settings Units

14 10 Kodak UpFront Release Notes The Preferences dialog box also contains the following groups of settings that were previously found in the Databases menu (now named Libraries menu): Users Access Levels The Preferences dialog box contains the following new groups of settings: Finishing & Press Attach Signature For additional information about the Finishing & Press settings and the Attach Signature settings, see the following sections. JDF Enhancements Exporting the Folding Orientation of a Section The JDF (Job Definition Format) file now includes the folding orientation required for your specific job. The new Orientation for Folding Machine option in the Tag Section Plan for CIP4 folding window enables you to include the required orientation for your folding machine. Choose 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees.

15 Enhancements 11 Improved User Interface The Libraries menu (previously known as the Databases menu) features a new improved user interface that is friendlier and easier to use. This includes the Finishing Equipment library, Sheetfed Presses library, Web Presses library, Clients library, Common Folios library, Common Press Layout Names library, Diagram Notes library, Finished Trim Sizes library, Footnotes library, Ink Colors library and Stock library. The new side toolbar contains new zoom tools as well as the Select Element and Select Section tools that replace the Section and Page tools that existed on the top toolbar. There is a new user interface for locking and unlocking password-required options. Maintaining Shingling (Creep) Values Within a Job Shingling (Creep) values defined for a specific Kodak UpFront Job are now saved within the Kodak UpFront Job. When you export this Job again, the defined Shingling values are displayed in the Preps Job tab of the Export Data dialog box. Version Enhancements Kodak UpFront now imports Jog To information (Head/Foot). A new Smart Collation Mark Compatibility option is available in the preferences. If you export with the Preps 5 compatibility setting, a smart collation mark is exported instead of a static collation mark. Currently, this works for layouts with one section only.

16 12 Kodak UpFront Release Notes Problems Fixed This section lists problems that are resolved in the current release of Kodak UpFront software. The JDF 1.2 specification s representation of Bindery Signatures is limited to signatures with a vertical spine. Kodak UpFront uses non-jdf 1.2 compliant syntax to cope with horizontal spines until a specification is available to support this functionality. Corrected In Kodak UpFront Planner, when you select a press layout from the Press Layout list, sometimes the Preview pane does not show the correct press layout. Corrected In Kodak UpFront Job Builder, when you use the Combine Spreads option on a section that contains heads facing up or down, in Preps software the spread is rotated 180 degrees. Corrected In Kodak UpFront Job Builder, when you use the Combine Spreads option, in Preps software the page numbering is wrong. Corrected When you export a job to a Preps template and Preps job and there is a problem with the path you are exporting to, the path is automatically changed to the default path instead of notifying you of the problem. Corrected In Job Builder, when you add notes and/or footnotes to an existing job and close the job, Job Builder does not display a message informing you that the job was changed and asking you whether you want to save the changes. The job is closed without saving the changes. Corrected The Smart Signature Collation mark does not appear in the correct position on the press layout. Corrected The Spread Pages option from (Preferences > Preps: Template) does not work. Corrected In Kodak UpFront Job Builder, when you use the Combine Spreads option on a section, the fold marks overlap the image area. Corrected In Job Builder, sometimes when you preview a press layout by selecting it in the Job Summary window, and use the shortcut for the Show Section Details option (CTRL+D), the preview and therefore the diagram of this press layout does not display the section details. Corrected In Planner, when you minimize a press layout, after you close it, all other press layouts that you open are opened in a minimized view. Corrected In Planner, in the Press Layouts window, in the list of press layouts for web presses, if you resize the width of the Web Size column, the new width is not maintained. Corrected Kodak UpFront creates Preps Independent pages when the sections are aligned and have complete strips (such as a section with 16 pages or 8 pages) or when the sections are aligned but the page s finished trim size in one section is reversed in relation to the page s finished trim size in another section (such as X,Y versus Y,X). Corrected

17 Problems Fixed 13 A JDF file exported from UpFront is missing the Amount parameter value. Corrected Note: If you want to include the Amount parameter in the exported JDF file, you must type the required value in the Quantity box in the Job Title and Description dialog box (Job menu > Header Details (Title And Description)). In Planner, when you select Modify for Coming and Going from the Section menu, and add text or a Smart Signature Collation mark, the text or mark does not rotate 180 degrees, due to a Preps 4.x limitation. Corrected When you apply a mark onto a layout in a non-english Windows Locale setting, sometimes a run time error occurs. Corrected When you edit information about the Preps Template job path in the Export Data dialog, the changes are not saved. Corrected The page height dimensions are missing on Print Preview and on the Print Diagram. Corrected Changes in the Access Level options (in Tools >Preferences>General) are not saved. Corrected When you close or save a layout, the Marks palette also closes. Corrected The Sheet column in the Group tab of the Marks palette is available for a Preps mark group that is relative to gutter or page. Corrected After you add extra paper to a layout, sometimes marks are displayed with a warning for marks overlapping the page area when in fact they are not. Corrected After you have moved a predefined file mark on a layout, the icon of the mark in the Marks on section does not turn yellow. Corrected After you add a new predefined single file mark to the Marks library and apply it onto a layout immediately, the following message appears: "The mark is associated with section 0, while this layout plan or press layout does not contain section 0. This mark will be associated with section 1. Please change to the appropriate section." Corrected In Job Builder, when you change the binding style (in Tools > Preference > General > Finishing & Press), this does not affect the binding style in Planner. Corrected When you set a database from a previous version (in Tools > Preference > General > Databases) and choose not to convert in the conversion confirmation dialog, Kodak UpFront loses the database connection. Corrected Mark group names cannot be given names, but can only contain spaces or no characters. Corrected Line marks that were created in UpFront version are not displayed. Corrected In Planner, when you export a PDF diagram for a press layout, a Preps template is exported, even if you only selected the Export PDF file option in the Export dialog. Corrected

18 14 Kodak UpFront Release Notes The options in the Color tab (Preps Marks Palette > Properties > Color) are not enabled correctly. Corrected After you convert a layout to the Coming and Going work style, the head trim and foot trim parameters are not set correctly. Corrected If you have applied a filter on an open file list (Open SP, LP, PL, and Job), when you perform a function that requires the display list to be refreshed (such as deleting a job or toggling between web press and sheetfed press layouts), this results in the filter being reset and the full list being displayed. Corrected In Job Builder, when you import a JDF file, this sometimes results in a run-time error or no information is imported. Corrected

19 Known Problems and Limitations 15 Known Problems and Limitations This section lists known problems and limitations in Kodak UpFront software. They may be outstanding issues from a previous release or new problems. When a problem listed here is resolved, the solution is described in the Problems Fixed section of the release notes for the next version of Kodak UpFront software. In Planner, the unique description that you define when saving a new layout plan is not carried forward when you save the press layout created from that plan. Instead, the Description 3 box contains the default text in the Save Layout Plan window and you have to retype the original text in this box if you want to retain it. Incremental page numbering for a job in Job Builder can become skewed when new pages are inserted after a specified page. The increments tend to be in reverse order for the pages following the new pages. In Planner, if you preview a folder or leaflet section plan before saving, the number of pages in the Pages At Front and the Pages At Back boxes may be incorrect in the preview. If you place bitmaps on rotated pages in the Page Folios and Colors window, Kodak UpFront on Windows XP does not display the bitmaps in the print preview because Windows XP does not support this feature. When using an ikey dongle, Kodak UpFront quits without notice when Windows goes into standby mode because the computer does not provide power to the USB bus in this mode. If you use the (pipe) character in the description for a job in Job Builder, all characters following the do not appear in the print preview. This behavior occurs only with text that is displayed in tables, such as the Job Header and Footer information. When you convert a corrupted Kodak UpFront database from an older version of Kodak UpFront software to a newer version, Error 3112 or Error 3343 may appear. Workaround: Compact and repair the corrupted database in the earlier version of Kodak UpFront before you update it to the newer version of Kodak UpFront. If the default head trim for a saddle-stitcher is set to zero, the extra paper amount is added to the page height when Kodak UpFront displays the press layout. When you change the regional setting on a computer, an error can occur when you open a job created under a different regional setting if one of the regions uses a period for a decimal and the other region uses a comma. In Planner, in the Press Layout window, when you click the Print Preview Press Report button, the report opens under the open press layout instead of above it. Sometimes, Job Builder cannot locate a press layout that has a page s finished trim size value (width and/or height) of 5 digits after the decimal point.

20 16 Kodak UpFront Release Notes In press layouts that were created in an earlier version of Kodak UpFront software, the group marks are displayed in the Marks on Layout (Marks on section) list as individual marks (flat). If you set the Print Preview window to maximize, and then close it, the Layout window is also set to maximize. When you perfect a layout with multiple sections or multi-sheets, this may result in incorrect orientation or incorrect section rotation. In Job Builder, when you export CIP3 folding data and select the JDF option, Job Builder exports the MBO tag instead. When you rearrange the position of columns, Kodak UpFront doesn t save the new position. When you select columns for sorting, Kodak UpFront doesn t save the selected columns. When you create a new diagram note mark, Kodak UpFront uses the default settings, instead of using the settings that you defined for a previous diagram note mark. Kodak UpFront supports numbers with up to 4 decimal points only.
