3 Overview Allows the Avid Media Composer and/or NewsCutter editor to compose graphics using PostDeko or DekoSelect and insert graphic into the sequence. On NewsCutter, via the NRCS tool, PD4E offers 3 types of graphic compose and insert methods: Graphics Production News Graphics Integration News Template Fulfillment The workflow for these types are described below: Graphics Production The Graphics Production option launches PostDeko providing the editor with full graphic editing functionality. The graphic is burned into the sequence on a second video track. 1. Add a new video track on the timeline. 2. Add edit points where the graphic is to be inserted. 3. Open the Deko effect and select PostDeko for Editors. Drag this effect into the timeline. In the Effect Editor palette, select Graphics Production. 1

4 4. Click on the "Edit" button in the Effect Editor palette. This launches PostDeko. 2

5 5. Compose the graphic either by creating it completely, or by selecting an existing template. The example below shows a Deko template with replaceable graphic. 3

7 6. When done, Select "Finish Edit of Graphic and Return to Avid Editor" from the File pulldown menu, or press F12. The graphic is inserted into the sequence. 5

8 Motion built into the PostDeko template is applied to the graphic inserted into the sequence. 7. After all graphics have been inserted into the sequence, render all effects. Mark In and Mark out from the beginning of the sequence to the end of the sequence. 6

9 8. Select "Render In/Out" from the Clip pulldown menu. 7

10 News Graphics Integration The News Graphics Integration allows graphics to be composed using the DekoSelect plug-in and inserted into the NLE sequence timeline. The DekoSelect plug-in makes the creation of graphics simple because they can be selected from a set of templates already designed for the program. Graphics inserted into the timeline using this option cannot burned into the sequence. They are published into the inews story as metadata for playout on the studio Deko through inews Command. 1. The sequence must be associated with an inews story. Start by selecting the inews story using the NewsCutter NRCS Tool. 8

11 2. Click on the "Create Sequence" button. This creates a new sequence on the timeline which is associated with the selected inews story. 9

12 3. Add a new video track on the timeline. Add shots to the sequence. 4. Add edit points where the graphic is to be inserted. Open the Deko effect and select PostDeko for Editors. Drag this effect into the timeline. 10

13 5. In the Effect Editor palette, select News Graphics Integration and click "Edit". This launches the DekoSelect plug-in. 6. Select a graphic template, compose the text, select a replaceable graphic if applicable, then click OK. 11

14 7. Continue adding graphics to the sequence. When done, click on "Publish all graphics to inews". If the inews story already contains CG cues previously published into it, the new ones will be added to the story. 12

15 CG production cues will be inserted into the inews story. The graphics inserted into the timeline will not be burned into the sequence. News Template Fulfillment The News Template Fulfillment option is a combination of the News Graphics Integration option and the Graphics Production option. It uses the DekoSelect plug-in to to select, compose and insert graphics to the sequence, but the graphics inserted into the timeline can be burned into the sequence. 1. This workflow begins just like the News Graphics Integration process where a sequence is created using the NewsCutter NRCS Tool. 2. Add shots to the second video track using the same procedure as the News Graphics Integration. 13

16 3. After all graphics have been inserted into the timeline, Mark In and Mark Out from the beginning of the sequence to the end. Render all effects. Motions embedded into the graphics template will be applied to the graphics inserted into the sequence.
