10 Introduction Welcome to ArcSoft Panorama Maker - an easy-to-use image entertainment program that seamlessly combines multiple photos into a single panoramic picture. It enables you to create eye-catching, large-format panoramas with point-and-click simplicity. You can also view your panoramas from different perspectives. This Quick Start Guide shows you how to install the software and introduces its key features. System Requirements Windows: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP Pentium-based PC or equivalent 50 MB free hard disk space 64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended) 16-bit color display at 800 x 600 Macintosh: Power PC Mac OS 8.6/9/X 50 MB free hard disk space 128 MB RAM 16-bit color display at 800 x 600 Other: QuickTime and/or a VRML viewer 2

11 Install Panorama Maker Windows: 1. Insert the Panorama Maker CD in your CD-ROM drive. The software will start running automatically on your PC. 2. Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation. Note: If the Autorun feature on your PC is turned off, you'll have to install the software manually by taking the following steps: 1. Insert the Panorama Maker CD in your CD-ROM drive. 2. Click Start>Run. 3. In the Run dialog box, type in D:/Setup.exe (where "D" is your CD-ROM drive). 4. Click OK. 5. Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation. Macintosh: 1. Insert the Panorama Maker CD in your CD-ROM drive. 2. Double-click on the CD icon. 3. In the window, click the Panorama Maker Installer icon to start the installation. 3

12 Highlights of Panorama Maker Intuitive, easy-to-use interface makes the program easy to learn - you'll be able to turn your photos into a panorama in a matter of seconds. Multiple panorama options let you stitch photos together in four different styles: Horizontal, Vertical, 360, and Tile. Automatic panorama with manual refinement makes creating and refining your panoramas a cinch. Easy printing options allow you to print panoramic pictures on multiple pages (use Z Fold Banner paper for the best results) using inkjet or laser printers. Built-in panorama viewer allows you to view your panoramas right within the program. QuickTime VR and HTML support lets you save your panoramas as QuickTime Movie (.mov) or HTML (.htm) files. Built-in photo album enables you to open, manage and preview photos right on your desktop. TWAIN-compliance allows you to get images directly from TWAINcompliant devices like digital cameras and scanners. Image enhancement functionality lets you edit, and adjust the brightness and contrast of your photos. 4

13 Get Started Windows users: Click Start and select Programs>ArcSoft> PanoramaMaker> Panorama Maker 3.0. The Panorama Maker Main Screen will appear. Macintosh users: Click the Macintosh HD icon on your desktop to bring up the Macintosh HD screen. In the Macintosh HD screen, locate and click the Panorama Maker icon. This will open the Panorama Maker program folder. In the Panorama Maker folder, find the Panorama Maker program icon, and click to open it. 5

14 Commands on the Main Menu: Start - takes you to the Options Screen where you can choose a panorama type. Open - opens the Open dialog box where you can open images. Edit - opens an Edit Screen where you can rotate, crop, and enhance images. Save - opens the Save As dialog box where you can save images. Export - opens the Export Panorama dialog box where you can save your panoramas as either QuickTime Movies or HTML (for Windows only) files. Print - opens the Print (Setup) dialog box where you can set the print parameters to print images. 6

15 Commonly Used Buttons: Back - takes you to the previous screen. Next - takes you to the next screen. Cancel - cancels the current screen. Finish - processes panoramas. 7

16 Select a Panorama Option Click Start to choose a panorama option: Horiz (ontal), Vert (ical), 360, or Tile. Click the down-arrows to choose the Camera Lens and Output Image Size appropriate for your panorama. Press Next to proceed (or click Cancel to abort). Note: 1. Check Auto Exposure Correction to automatically adjust the brightness of your photo. 2. For Camera Lens, use Automatic unless you know the exact focal length of the lens you want to use. 8

17 Arrange Photos Each panorama option (Horizontal, Vertical, 360, or Tile) has its own screen. As an example, this section discusses the layout and functionality of the Horizontal option. Once you are here, you may add images to an album from a disk or acquire images from a digital camera or scanner. To create a new album, select "New" from the Select Album pull-down menu. You can name the album by highlighting the text field and typing in a name. 9

18 1. To add images from a disk: Click Add. In the Open dialog box, find and select the images you want to use. Press Open to add the images into an album, or click Cancel to abort. 2. To acquire images from a TWAIN device: Click Acquire. In the Select Source dialog box, select the TWAIN device from which you want to acquire images, and click Select to proceed (or Cancel to abort). Follow the instructions in the TWAIN device window to place images in an album. Once image thumbnails are in an album, you can include them in the Storyboard to make a panorama. Note: 1. To sort images in an album, click Sort. 2. To delete images from an album, select the images and click Delete. 3. To select images in an album for a panorama: Select the image you want to use, and click Include. Repeat the same operation to add more images to the Storyboard. To include all images (in an album) on the Storyboard, click Include All. 10 Note: 1. If the images added to the Storyboard are out of order, you can rearrange them by dragging and dropping the thumbnails on the Storyboard. 2. To remove an individual image from the Storyboard, select the image and click Remove. 3. To remove all the images from the Storyboard at once, click Remove All.

19 Preview a Panorama Click Next to process the panorama. The Preview Screen appears. Note: 1. You may click Back to return to the Options Screen, or click Cancel to go back to the Main Screen. 2. Once you're in the Preview Screen, you can zoom in or out on the panorama by pressing Zoom In or Zoom Out. You can also "fine-tune" the panorama (see the next page). Press Finish when you're done. This will take you to the Main Screen with the newly created panorama displayed. 3. Check Auto Crop if you want to have the panorama cropped automatically when you press Finish. 11

20 Fine-tune a Panorama To manually adjust the area where two photos join together: Click Fine Tune, and click on the area in the panorama that you'd like to modify. The Fine-tune Screen appears. In the Fine-tune Screen, drag the markers (,, and ) to three distinct points on photo one. Next, on photo two, drag the corresponding markers to precisely the same distinct points. Use Auto Match to precisely align the corresponding markers. When finished, click OK to return to the Preview Screen. 12

21 Edit an Image You can edit an image using the various controls in the Edit Screen. To edit an image: Click Edit. The Edit Screen appears. Use the controls to edit the image (adjust its brightness and contrast; rotate it) Set the crop area by dragging the sides or corners of the crop rectangle. Click OK to confirm, or press Cancel to abort. Note: Once you've clicked OK, you will return to the Main Screen again. 13

22 Save an Image To save your image: Click Save on the Main Menu. In the Save As dialog box, select the drive and folder in which you want to store the image, key in a name for the file, and choose a file format. Click OK to save the file, or Cancel to abort. Note: JPG files are ideal for image file compression. Click the Quality arrows to adjust the compression level. As a rule, the higher the image quality, the larger the file size. Export a Panorama To export a panorama as a 360o viewable image: Click Export on the Main Menu. In the Export Panorama dialog box, find the drive and folder in which to save the panorama, enter in a name for the file, and select a file type: QuickTime Movie file (.mov) or HTML (.htm) (for Windows only) file. Click Save to save the file, or Cancel to abort. Note: 1. You must have QuickTime Player installed on your computer to view QuickTime Movie files. 2. You must have a VRML plug-in for your Web browser to view the HTML file. 14

23 Print a Panorama To print a panorama: Click Print on the Main Menu. In the Print Setup dialog box, choose all the parameters that apply, and click OK. In the Print Window, select a paper layout and set the scale you want to use. Click Print to print the file, or press Cancel to abort. 15
