Making a Slide Show In PowerPoint Click on the Picture Icon on the slide page Each slide can be a picture You can also create a collage in Picasa and import that as a picture. MICROSOFT MOVIE MAKER
Movie Maker Main Screen Preparation This is the most important and often neglected aspect of the whole procedure, if your photos are not arranged, named and numbered correctly it can cause some major headaches. First, make sure all your photos are contained within the one folder. If you wish to use photos from a number of different folders then you should start off by creating a new folder in My Pictures. To do this; open My Pictures and right click on any blank space, select New and then Folder. Type an appropriate title into the dialogue box under the new folder and then hit Enter. Now just drag and drop or copy and paste all the required photos into the new folder. 32
We need to arrange the photos in the same order as you would like them displayed in the slide show. Just drag and drop them around the folder until you have them in the desired sequence. Now we have to make sure they retain that order, Windows has a nasty habit of jumbling them all back up again. Select all the photos in the folder by either pressing the Ctrl and A keys simultaneously or left click on the first photo and then on the last photo while also holding down the Shift key*. With all the photos now highlighted, right click on the first photo and select Rename. Type in an appropriate title followed by the number 01 in parenthesis, e.g. Now just left click on any blank space or, alternatively, hit Enter. You will see that all the photos now bear the same name and are numbered sequentially..we are ready to make our slide show. Step 1: Import Pictures, Videos and Audio or Music Click on the Import Pictures Link and the following Window will open: Select the Location of the Pictures you want to use for this movie and Click on the Import Button 33
Select all pictures in a folder You can do this by pressing the Ctrl key down and pressing the letter A (Select All). Click on the Import button Your New Window 34
Creating the movie You can drag one picture at a time to the bottom of the screen in the Video area. If they are already in order, you can Select All and drag them into the video area. Step 2: Edit Your Movie Click on View Video transitions and the screen will show the video transitions: 35
Inserting Transitions On top of the Video piece is a button called Show Storyboard The Current View is called Timeline Clicking on Show Storyboard changes the screen shown below Notice the symbol before each photo Working with the Transitions Double click on one of the transition symbols and a sample will be shown on the right. Drag the transition you want into the symbol area before the picture. Below is a sample of the first few pictures. 36
You can also Clip one transition for all videos Select the Transition and click on the clip menu and select Add to Storyboard Step 2a: Video Effects Click on the Video Effect Link and the screen will change Notice that the pictures in the video section has a star on the lower left. Drag the effect onto the star You can double click on the effect to see what it does. 37
Step 2b: Titles Click on the link and the following window will open Select the first one and the screen will change to the following Changing fonts and characteristics Click on the Change and Font Color Link and the following screen will open 38
Click on Choose the Title Animation Finished Notice the bottom of the screen Select Title Before Selected Picture Select Credit for the End 39
Selecting an AutoMovie Used to automatically produce a movie Import Audio or Music Click on that link and the window will change to the following Select the song and then Import Your screen will display the Music File 40
Drag to the Music section Click on Show Timeline Drag the single file over the music section. Here is the finished product Narrate Timeline In Addition to Music, you can also narrate the entire movie, or just sections. Click on Narrate Timeline and the following window will open You do need a microphone, preferably with a headset. 41
Collections Understanding collections and clips Collections are libraries that contain the different video, audio, and pictures that you've imported into or captured in Windows Movie Maker 2. You can use and reuse items from the collections for the movies you create. When you import the digital media files into Windows Movie Maker, the different video, audio, and pictures appear as clips within one or more collection folders in Windows Movie Maker. To save your movie to your computer Open your movie in Movie Maker. In the Movie Tasks pane, under Finish Movie, click Save to my computer. The Save Movie Wizard appears. On the Save Movie File page, type a name for your movie. You can also choose a folder to save it in by clicking the Browse button, but My Videos (the default) is usually the best place to save your movie. Then click Next. 42
On the Movie Setting page, click Next to accept the default setting of Best quality for playback on my computer. Movie Maker saves your movie, which might take several minutes. On the Completing the Save Movie Wizard page, click Finish. If Play movie when I click Finish was selected (it is selected by default), the movie will automatically play in Windows Media Player. 43
To save your movie to a CD-R or DVD-R 1. Open your project in Movie Maker. 2. Insert a blank, recordable CD into your CD burner, 3. In the Movie Tasks pane, under Finish Movie, click Save to CD. 4. The Save Movie Wizard opens. On the Saved Movie File page, type a name for your movie. Then click Next. 5. On the Movie Setting page, click Next. 6. Movie Maker saves your movie, which might take several minutes, and then ejects your CD. If you don t want to make another copy, click Finish. If you do want to make another copy, insert a new blank, recordable CD, select the Save this movie to another recordable CD check box, and click Next. Import Movie into PowerPoint Click on the Video Reel Icon in PowerPoint The following window will open. Click on Insert 44
Creating a DVD to play in a player Movies created in Windows Movie Maker won t necessarily play on standalone DVD players. That s true even if you burn the movie to DVD. This has tripped up a lot of people. Windows Movie Maker creates movies in the WMV or AVI formats. These work on computers and portable gadgets. You need to use a DVD-authoring program to create your DVD. The version of Movie Maker included with Windows XP won t author DVDs. Manufacturers often include software for authoring DVDs. Look for DVD-creation programs that came with your DVD drive or computer. Or, you may have a program like Nero or Roxio Creator. These will do the trick. A free DVD authoring program: 45
If you re using Vista, you may have the software you need. The Home Premium and Ultimate versions include Windows DVD Maker. This will create your DVD. Open your project in Movie Maker. Then, click File and then Publish Movie. Select DVD and click Next. When DVD Maker opens, follow the prompts to create your DVD. Windows 7 doesn t include Movie Maker. Instead, you must download it. The program is still free, however from the Microsoft Site 46
