1 Submitting Coursework via SurreyLearn During your studies you will be expected to submit the majority of your pieces of coursework electronically via SurreyLearn this guide provides detailed instructions on how to do this. 1. Read the Instructions and Check the Due Date After accessing the relevant SurreyLearn module, ensure that you have carefully read all the instructions. In particular: Note the due date and time by which your work should be submitted Open and read any relevant documents and review any instructions Note: you must ensure you select the correct module and submission facility to submit your work into. Work submitted to the wrong module or submission facility cannot be accepted. Quick Submission Checklist Read instructions / check due date Upload coursework document(s) Confirm correct documents have been uploaded Submit coursework Check coursework has been submitted successfully Note: all required materials must be submitted before the deadline including additional hard copies when these have also been requested. If any one component is late then late penalties will be applied. If a group submission is late all group members are penalised. 2. Access the Submission Facility Click on the submission link within the Coursework Submission news item (where applicable) Alternatively, click on the Assignments menu item and choose the relevant assignment folder from the list. 3. Upload Your Work Click on Add a File This will open a new window through which you can attach your files

2 Either drag and drop the required file(s) from your machine directly into the box as displayed in the pop-up window or click Upload, navigate to and select the file(s) to be uploaded and click Open Once the required file(s) have been chosen click Add This will upload and attach the selected file(s) (note: the file(s) are not yet submitted) Note: please do not include speech marks ( ) or any of these characters / \? : * < > in the file names of the documents you upload. Note: essay based documents should be of a file size of less than 20Mb. If your document is larger and contains images please compress those images. Note: standard file formats for submission are.doc,.docx,.rtf,.pdf,.ppt and.pptx Note: large file sizes (e.g. audio, video) may take longer to upload than expected please try to reduce the file size, use a stable and suitable internet connection and allow sufficient time to upload your coursework documents. a Click on Add a File to select your files to upload Ignore Record Audio and Comments textbox

3 b Either drag and drop required file(s) directly into the box or click Upload 4. Check Your Work Open and review each of the files you have uploaded Ensure you have uploaded the correct file(s) If you have accidentally attached the wrong file, click on the red cross icon This will remove the corresponding file you should then upload a replacement Note: you must check that you have uploaded the correct document(s). You can replace them as many times as you need prior to the due date but penalties will be incurred once the deadline has passed. Click on the red cross icon to remove incorrect file

4 5. Submit Your Work Click on Submit This will submit the files that you have uploaded c After reviewing chosen files, click Submit 6. Submission Confirmation Review the confirmation message that appears on screen after submitting your work This message confirms your work has been submitted Additionally you will receive an to your University account confirming your submission It s suggested that you keep this safe so your submission is confirmed Note: if the confirmation message does not appear and is not received then the work has not been successfully submitted. Please review the steps above and repeat as necessary. 7. Review Your Submission To ensure that the correct assignment documents have been submitted successfully, it is strongly suggested that you double-check your submission Click on the Assignments menu item This will take you to the Assignment Folders screen Click on the number under the Submissions column corresponding to the relevant assignment folder in the list or on the View History button This will show you the details of your previous submission(s) for the assignment(s) If, upon review, the wrong coursework has been submitted, repeat the process above to upload and submit the correct document(s)

5 You can re-submit as many times as you need and the most recent submission will be taken as your final submission Note: if the relevant piece of work is not listed, then it has not been submitted successfully. Please repeat the steps in this guide to ensure the coursework is submitted. Note: if you find you have made any errors in your submission and the due date has passed, you can still replace your work but it may be subject to penalties so you should seek advice from the Student Services Office at 01AD02. Experienced a Problem? If you are unable to resolve any technical issues with SurreyLearn (via surreylearnhelp@surrey.ac.uk) then, as a last resort, you should your work to fassassessments@surrey.ac.uk along with an explanation of the problem before the deadline.
