How to submit coursework online using Turnitin Feedback Studio At Education for Health coursework is submitted and marked online using a site called TurnitinUK h t t p : / / w w w. t u r n i t i n u k. c o m All coursework must be submitted this way. The only exception is the Spirometry portfolio (separate instructions are included in the module learning materials). Preparing for online submission Instructions for your coursework including due dates are included in your module learning materials. Please read them very carefully because any coursework submitted late or incorrectly, in line with all Higher Education Institutions, cannot be accepted. There is information about formatting, word count and other aspects of assessment in the Student Guide - see the Assessment policies and procedures section. The Student Guide is available on ilearn, on the 'My Course and Learning page. Key points: Do not leave submission to the last minute especially if you have not used TurnitinUK before! You may miss a deadline if something goes wrong. Read through these instructions before you prepare to submit online including the next section about creating your password and setting up your account, which are TurnitinUK security requirements Carefully check assessment guidance for how to submit your work. You need to submit all your work, including the coversheet and reference list, in one document (file). Please also note that: o If multiple files are uploaded, the previous file is overwritten and the final file becomes the (only) submission o Once the deadline has passed, a submitted file stands as the final submission. Some modules have two parts to the same assignment. For these modules carefully check your assessment guidance, to ensure you submit the correct work to the required area e.g. Portfolio and portfolio presentation. Ensure your name is not anywhere in your assignment - including in the file name. See How to name your file below. Be sure to preview your work before you confirm your submission to make sure you are submitting the correct version. What is TurnitinUK and how do I use it? TurnitinUK is an online submission service that checks if a piece of submitted work matches other sources, such as journal articles, reports, guidelines and other students work, and produces a Similarity Report for the submission. TurnitinUK is also used to mark work electronically. When you submit your work through TurnitinUK your work will
be anonymously added to the database of sources. We are committed to promoting an ethos of academic integrity. It is important that you are familiar with correct academic practice including how to correctly use material from other sources. In the Student Guide, Referencing covers how to cite sources in your work and the Plagiarism and collusion section explains what plagiarism is and how to avoid it The Writing for Success guide also has examples and exercises to support correct academic practice. We strongly suggest that you view the Similarity Report before you submit the final version of your coursework for marking. The report can support you in ensuring you use and cite other sources correctly; see our guide on Viewing the Similarity Report All material is available online in ilearn, on the My Courses and Learning page: The Student Guide and Writing for Success are located either above your course folders or in the Essential Course Guides folder within your module materials. Viewing the Similarity Report is in the Assessment folder in your module materials We also have a Viewing Marker Feedback guide, to use after your work has been marked; this guide is also in the Assessment folder in your module materials Setting up your account on TurnitinUK We enroll you on TurnitinUK for the modules you are registered for, using your name and the address you gave us. After we enroll you, you will receive an confirmation from TurnitinUK No Reply (noreply@turnitin.com), sent to the address you gave us If you do not receive a confirmation , please check your spam folder If you still cannot see a confirmation , please ring us on or if you have used TurnitinUK before, log in and check what class information is shown on your student homepage (see Submitting an Assignment for a screenshot of a student homepage). If you have not used TurnitinUK before, you must set up your account before you can submit your work. This is a security requirement set by TurnitinUK. Once your account has been fully set up, you will be able to log in directly using your address and password. To set up your account: There are two ways to get started either On your confirmation, click the red Create your password button OR Go to the TurnitinUK homepage ( and click on the Log in link at the top right corner circled in the screenshot below
and then on the Log In screen, click the forgotten password link shown below: At the next screen (either Account Setup or Reset User Password, depending on which option you chose in the previous step), input your address and last name and click Next. Please note you must use the and last name you provided when you registered with us You will then be sent a link to (re)set your password. The link will remain valid for 24 hours. Once you have clicked on the link to set your password: Set your password and please remember it since we do not have a record of it You will then see a message confirming that your account is set up or password has been reset. You can now go to the TurnitinUK homepage ( and log in using your address and (new) password. Once you have gone to the TurnitinUK homepage and logged in: You are nearly there! Now you can complete the security information (secret question) as shown below.
At the next screen you will see the User Agreement review and to proceed click I agree. You will now see your student homepage, with your name shown at the top of the screen. To submit work, see Submitting an assignment below. File Types and Size less than 40MB; has a minimum of 20 words; and Is less than 400 pages. Please ensure you submit your work in a format that enables Turnitin to display the content on screen for the marker and to generate a Similarity Report. Your coursework will not be accepted if it cannot be displayed on screen after submission. Turnitin will only accept files that can generate Originality Reports. This includes: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) WordPerfect (.wpd) PostScript (.ps/.eps) HTML Hangul Word Processor file (.hwp) Rich text format (.rtf) Plain text (.txt) Google Docs via Google Drive Adobe PDF Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx,.ppt,.ppsx, and.pps) Microsoft Excel (.xls and.xlsx) Note: Please do not use OpenOffice Text since Turnitin is having difficulties displaying the contents. If you are using an unsupported word processor, you may need to save your plain text file as.txt or.rtf in order to upload to TurnitinUK.
Note: If submitting with Google Drive, third party cookies must be allowed in your browser, otherwise, any attempts to sign into Google to upload from Google Drive will fail. Note that Google Drive functionality is not supported with IE8 or below. Do not upload Google Doc (.gdoc) files directly to Turnitin; a.gdoc file does not store the document, but contains a reference to it online, in Google Docs Note: Please check your assessment guidance carefully if you are including PowerPoint files in your coursework, to ensure your work is submitted correctly. Turnitin converts the PowerPoint slide deck into a static PDF, leaving all text and images in their original format - but leaving out features such as presenter notes, embedded video, and animations. Text with visual effects is not supported, and it is recommended that any visual effects such as shadows and 3D be removed prior to submitting to Turnitin. Please do not use the following types of files since they will not be displayed by TurnitinUK: Password protected files Zip files Microsoft Works (.wps) files Microsoft Word 2007 macros-enabled.docm files OpenOffice Text (.odt) files created and downloaded from Google Docs online Document (.doc) files created using OpenOffice, as they are not 100% Microsoft Word equivalent Apple Pages Spreadsheets created outside of Microsoft Excel (i.e..ods) Text with visual effects Tip: When converting a file to a new file format, users should rename their file with a name other than that of the original file. This is suggested to prevent permanent loss of the original formatting or image content of a file due to it being overwritten. How to name the file for your assignment including your student number The file name for each piece of coursework should be your Education for Health student number, followed by the name of your module and the name of the assignment. Each piece of coursework will need to be submitted as a separate file. Your student number is shown on your My details page. To see this: o Log in to ilearn o Click on the My details link in the top right corner of the ilearn homepage o Scroll down the page to the Additional Fields section shown here:
Example of file name: your (example) student number is EFH , you are taking the Asthma Level 6 module and you are submitting your case study so your file name should be: EFH Asthma Level 6 Case Study Ensure you follow the example, and that your name is not anywhere in your assignment including the name. Work is marked anonymously the marker will not see any of your details when your work is marked. Submission coversheet Before you submit, you must complete the coversheet information and include it on a separate page at the beginning of your assignment. Create a blank page at the start of your assignment and type in the required information (see below). On your coversheet, you must include at least these six things: Title of your assignment Your student number listed on your welcome letter, and also shown in the My details section of ilearn (see above) Your cohort code listed on your welcome letter Your initials Word count of your assignment see the Assessment policies and procedures section of the Student Guide on ilearn for how to determine the word count o Please note: Turnitin may display a word count for your coursework but this will not be correct; this is because the Turnitin word count includes the reference list Submission deadline for your assignment. Some modules require additional information in the coversheet so always check your module s assignment guidelines Submitting coursework Student users of Turnitin submit coursework to a class from the class portfolio page. The class portfolio page is viewed by clicking on the name of the class from the student homepage. The class portfolio page lists assignments created by the instructor for students to submit to.
Submitting a piece of coursework To submit a piece of coursework on Turnitin, the user must log in and upload a file to an existing assignment. Turnitin can accept student submissions once the module has started. Please note that assignments may be rejected once the deadline has passed. To check the start date and due date information, either click on the name of the assignment in the class portfolio page or view the start and due dates located under the assignment name. This action opens a pop-up window showing assignment preference information, including start and due dates/times as well as other assignment information or special instructions. Note: After the submission has completed, a digital receipt is displayed in your browser window. A copy is also sent via . It is important to use a valid address to receive this copy of the digital receipt. Save the receipt and the submission ID it contains, as this is proof of a completed submission. Warning: If the digital receipt is not shown on screen after submission, return to the class portfolio page and view the assignment to ensure the paper submission completed correctly. Submissions can be checked and viewed by clicking on the title of the paper under the title column to the right of the assignment name Initial step - Log in to TurnitinUK Log in at: You will need your address and password to log in Remember that if you have not used TurnitinUK before, you must set up your account before you can submit your work - see the section Setting up your account on TurnitinUK above After you log in, you will see your student homepage. After you log in, under the heading Class name, you will see a separate assignment for each piece of module coursework Note: TurnitinUK uses some American wording. When it refers to a class and assignment, for example, this corresponds to a module and coursework For example, here is what the screen would look like if you were enrolled in Module XYZ and were preparing to submit a piece of module coursework called Case Study :
Click on the class name for the piece of coursework you wish to submit After you click on the class name, you will see information about your coursework. (TurnitinUK uses the word assignment rather than coursework.) For our Case Study example, the screen looks like this: File Upload Submission 1. Start by clicking on the class name you would like to submit to after logging in to TurnitinUK 2. Click on the Submit button to the right of the assignment name 3. If necessary, select single file upload from the Submit: pull down menu 4. Enter a title for the submission 5. Once the requirements for single file upload have been reviewed, you have a choice to upload a file from: o the computer o Dropbox o or Google Drive
Click one of the submission buttons and then select the file you would like to upload 6. Click Upload to upload the file 7. Review the preview panel to ensure you are submitting the correct version of your work you can use the arrows for next/previous page to check content plus ensure the contents are displaying correctly 8. Click the Confirm button to upload the file to the assignment 9. Download and save your digital receipt After submission, you will be given the option to return to the assessment inbox. Return there to download your digital receipt by clicking on the arrow highlighted below:
Please ensure the receipt includes a preview of your first page. If Turnitin cannot display the contents, you will see this message on your digital receipt: If this happens and your assignment was uploaded in a format that Turnitin supports, try saving the file in another supported format and resubmitting. For example, if your assignment was originally saved as a Word document (.docx), trying resaving and resubmitting it in PDF format (.pdf). If you are still experiencing problems with Turnitin displaying your work, please contact Student Support otherwise you risk your coursework not being accepted A copy of the digital receipt is also sent via to the address for the user login. If you have not saved the receipt yet, be sure to save it and the submission ID it contains, as this is proof of a completed submission. The digital receipt contains a unique submission ID number, the name of the user profile submitting, the assignment title, the paper title given by the submitting party, the file name, the file size, the page count, word count, character count, submission date as well as the body text of the file submitted. A helpful video about the submission process can be viewed on YouTube: Student: Submitting a Paper or File Resubmissions Should you fail a piece of coursework you will be asked to resubmit at a later date. The process for submitting a resubmission will be the same as above. A new class will be set up for resubmissions please ensure that you submit to this new class. When you log in to TurnitinUK to resubmit, please be aware you may have the option to submit an assignment you have already passed. This is because some students on the cohort may need to resubmit both assignments. Please do not be concerned - we will only expect you to resubmit the assignment(s) you have failed.
