1 CODE MAROON TEST SEPT. 30, 2011 SURVEY RESULTS SMS (text) Message 1. Respondents were asked if they received the Code Maroon test by SMS (text) message. The responses indicate that 93% of the respondents did receive the message while 7% did not. The results are displayed in Figure 1 below. 7% Yes No 93% Figure 1. Display of SMS (text) message receipt. 2. Respondents who did receive the text message were asked to select the time it was received. Thirty-nine inexplicable data points and outliers, such as receipt times prior to the actual message launch and receipt times that were questionable, were dismissed from the data set leaving 321 data points for analysis. See Figure 2 below for a graphic display of the results and Table 1 for median, mean, and 95 th percentile. Figure 2. Graph of SMS (text) receipt times.

Never had anything like this at UT that I know of when I attended from Thanks for caring! Great system. I am retired and visit campus weekly or more often. This system allows me to "know about risks" when visiting campus. Great! Has improved greatly since it started. Keep up the good work! I appreciate it very much! One day last spring there was a possible incident and a Code Maroon went out. I was off-campus on an errand and the Code Maroon let me know to stay away from my office until the situation was under control. I appreciate the effort to keep us informed. I believe the Code Maroon System is very reliable and efficient way to communicate with a large amount of people. I find it to be quite timely and informative. I don't know what time I got it, but I think it is a great program. I feel safe on campus knowing that if anything were going on- I'll know about it as it's happening. I get all the text messages and s, so I feel like I am always up to date with what is going on with the campus. I like it, efficient system. I like it. It has never caused me to worry about my student and it keeps me up to date. i like the news updates. I love it! I think it's very effective, I do get nervous every month when the test text pops up because I think it's an emergency but it's a text I never ignore! I really like getting the alerts on the Code Maroon system. I think it has been very helpful. i think all is great I think Code Maroon is a great system and gets updates about security/bad weather situations out to the students very promptly. I always feel safe knowing if something was wrong, I will get a Code Maroon about an issue on campus. I think it is a great idea and it has worked great for me! I think it is a great, helpful system for the Ags! I think it is important to keep those of us on campus safe. I think it is really efficient and effective in getting out alerts and warnings to students. I am proud to have such a system available at Texas A&M. I think it works well I think it's a great system. I think the system is effective and beneficial. I appreciate receiving updates via text. I'm glad it's there.

5 Suggestions Always send out time of transmission during tests so that we may conduct similar analysis for each test...students who are aware may report any issues that arise regarding transmission delays. / / Much appreciated, you are. / -Yoda COMMENTS ABOUT THE CODE MAROON SYSTEM? / / NOPE / / JUST CHUCK TESTA Don't test it so often Everyone gets them at different times, and that could pose a problem if there was a real emergency and someone hasn't gotten the message yet. I like the fact that the university has a way to get a hold of the kids though, it makes us feel safer. I'm not sure if there's any possible way to get it to everyone faster, but it would be something to look into. I have deleted the text so I have tried to recall the day and time of notice. I would suggest you advise that you will sending a survey to participants so that we do not delete it and can verify the time of delivery. Otherwise, I think Code Maroon is a valuable format of keeping people informed in the event of an emergency and I am glad we have such a system in place. I like being able to receive text messages, but I think the parents should be allowed to receive them as well. I love Code Maroon and have only one complaint. The system that places the messages on our desktop has only one option "Acknowledge and Learn More." On the test, we really should have the option of closing the notification box without being forced to a website. If you use a real phone number instead of a short code number, I would have gotten the text message. needs more cowbell Our parents should be added to the system, so they can be aware too. Some phones are in vibration mode. It would be good if the phone keep remind the receiver until the message is read and deleted.
6 Complaints As a university staff member, I do not have a university subsidized cell phone, and I do not send nor receive text messages on my personal cell phone. Consequently, I will not receive any text message alerts. Good system but takes a little too long to get the message out. Honestly, they send out too many -repeated- texts which is very annoying. I don't like the code maroon test. I feel like when an actually emergency happens I might not pay attention to it. I follow the Code Maroon twitter and receive text messages from Twitter whenever something is posted. I usually get the Twitter message 2 minutes before the actual Code Maroon text message. I get the messages with 1 hour delay I received the popup code maroon acknowledgement on my computer at work a couple of minutes before the text message came. It worked perfectly this time, but I have on occasion not received the alert for several hours. it's a little slow sometimes It's rather inconsistent. Invariably some people will receive the notices half an hour late or so. Normally, I receive the messages between 30 min and 1 hour later. / In one case during a real emergency, I did not receive any notification. / I do not think this system is really working. / Seems to work right away most times. I believe it is greatly hindered in some buildings where network coverage is limited. A good example of this is the Blocker Building. Strangely, it came in on my phone but hasn't yet on my computer, which is usually right there with the phone. The Code Maroon does not forward to my Outlook account. It only stays in my Gateway/Neo account. I do get other s forwarded to my Outlook from my Gateway/Neo account. The text messaging system is fairly quick. However, minutes during an emergency situation could be catastrophic. So, while it's quickly delivered to the entire A&M population, it probably needs to be faster. / / Also, the Code Maroon notification given on the campus computers while you're logged on takes nearly a quarter of the screen - too large if you ask me. This test arrived quickly, but actual alerts have taken from 30 minutes to an hour to arrive. Whenever there is a reason to implement code maroon, I get the texts at least 15 minutes after they were supposed to be received, which could be dangerous in a dire situation While the messages get to me quickly, I'm a little worried about how quickly the decision goes out to use the system. For instance, a couple years ago with the shooter incident, I heard about that 30 minutes before the Code Maroon was triggered.
7 SMS (text) Message not Received I thought it was working, but if I didn't receive the text you sent this afternoon then perhaps it isn't working so well. Granted, I happen to be in Canada currently and perhaps the txt got lost along the way (although I do receive texts every day from Texas while in Canada so I know it works). I cannot afford a cell phone service. I always get Code Maroon alert through while I am at work, but usually, I don't notice it until it is too late. When I am listening to KAMU-FM, I can get it on time though. The text messages do not get sent to all mobile phones, despite registering for them. i do not get text messages, and have signed up for it several times I have continually signed up for Code Maroon, I never get any of the alarms. I have double checked my info and it is correct. i have registered my mobile phone number on the code maroon website but i never get text messages, i have tried multiple times!!?? I like it. I am signed up for it but I am no longer receiving text messages. no I did not get the text though and I signed up.
