2016 Edition How To Make And Host Your Own Splash and Squeeze Pages Carol Walczak Introduction You can make your own splash and squeeze pages, and host them on your own site, very easily. In this ebook, I will show you how to create some very simple pages with just a few minutes work, and also how to create more complex pages. Here is what you will need: 1. Your own domain name. For example 2. Hosting with cpanel access.
Getting Your Domain Name Most hosting companies will sell you a domain name, but there is a potential drawback. If your hosting company goes under or if you lose your account, then your domain name will be gone as well. So it is best to get your domain name separately. You can buy a domain name at NameCheap. It will cost around $10 per year for a dot com, which is the recommended one. Why dot com? That is the most popular one, and that is what people will tend to type in if they are manually entering your website url in their browser. You can get.info for much less, but they usually charge you full price when you renew after 12 months anyway. Getting Hosting I recommend the hosting at GVO. It will cost you $1 to try it for 7 days. After that, it is $9.95 a month, and this includes other features such as video capture and hosting, web conferencing and autoresponder. If you are not using those features yet that is ok, but you will want them as your marketing skills grow. The complete package is excellent value. Learn more about GVO hosting now Only $1 to start your trial. HostGator offers another alternative. Both companies provide good support. Connecting Your Domain Name With Your Hosting Your host will provide you with Domain Name Server (DNS) details for your account. You will need to put the DNS details into your account at NameCheap. Finding Your DNS details at GVO Log in to GVO and click on Step 2. Changing Your DNS. You will see a short video which shows you exactly what to do. If you know what you are doing, then simply copy the DNS details from the message below the video, and add them to your Domain account. Your domain can take up to 24 hours to propagate.
(Propagate means that the whole internet, globally, is updated with the location and your new site can be accessed.) If you registered your domain with GVO then you can skip this step, and propagation will be instant. Setting Up Your Hosting Account at GVO Click on Step 3. Web Host Manager inside your GVO back office. You will see a page with an introductory video, and a button to click to access your Web Host Manager. Next you will find yourself inside the WHM (which is the Web Host Manager area). GVO allows you to resell hosting to others, which you may find a use for later. Click on Account Functions and then click on Create a New Account. Now you will need to enter your domain information, which is your domain name minus the www, for example carolw44.com, a username, a password, and a contact so your settings can be sent to you.
Next comes the Package section. Choose a package from the drop down menu. If you don't see a package, contact GVO Support and they will add one for you. Then comes the Settings panel. change your language. Just leave it as it, unless you want to Next comes the DNS settings panel. Don't change anything there unless your domain host has given you special instructions. Leave the Mail Routing Settings as they are, as well. Click on the Create button at the bottom, and the system will spend a couple of minutes doing setup tasks. Then it will display a page showing
that everything has been done. Scroll down until you see New Account Info and copy&paste that information into a text file in case your gets filtered or goes to spam. Take a look at your quota. If it defaults to 1000 MB, that might not be enough and you are entitled to 200,000 MB, though according to GVO support, 1000 MB (1 GB) is enough for an average website. Make sure you save the you will get, which contains your username and password, and your DNS details. It will also have your cpanel logins. How To Change Your Bandwidth Quota Go to List Accounts. You will see your site there, and it will have a + next to the domain of the site. Click on the + and you will see the option to Change Quota. Now you can change it to something greater than 1000 MB. You are entitled to 200,000 MB so you can change it to 200,000 if this is your only account. If you have pages with lots of images, or big background images, then you will need more bandwidth than if you are running mainly text pages.
How Much Bandwidth Do You Need? Here is an explanation of bandwidth requirements, as provided by Vinayak Chavan at GVO Support. If this is too technical for you, then just stick with the shortcut of 1000 MB (1 GB) being adequate for an average site. Bandwidth can be explained simply as follows: Bandwidth of the website is the actual amount of data transferred through the website at one time. There is a particular amount of data which has to be transferred through the website that has to be calculated wisely; otherwise you may end up making your website unavailable for visitors. Basic Bandwidth Calculation: In bandwidth, it also doesn t make sense to purchase up this is why it makes sense to work with hosting providers who offer scalable solutions. As for buying small, that will only get you into trouble. Know your actual need to get the service that works for you here s how to calculate your required bandwidth: Estimate the average page size of your site in kilobytes (KB).* Multiply that average page size (in KB) by the monthly average number of visitors. Multiply the result from step 2 by the average number of pageviews per visitor. So if you are still not sure how much Bandwidth you need, you can simply set it to 1GB which is enough for any average website. In case this bandwidth maxes out, you can easily increase it. I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us (GVO Support) if you have any further queries or concerns, we will be happy to assist you further with it. Initial Setup If you have your cpanel logins, then log in directly to cpanel. your control panel for your website.) (That is If you don't have your cpanel logins, then log in to GVO, click on Step
3. Web Host Manager and you will find yourself inside WHM again. Inside WHM, click on List Accounts and you will see your website listed there. Now click on the cpanel icon next to your Domain url. Now you will find yourself in cpanel. Scroll down to the Files area and click on File Manager. You will see something like this on the left. Click on public_html. That is the directory where your files will go. (If you are wondering, the public_ftp folder is used for FTP access,
which is a kind of upload that does not require login to cpanel. It's handy if you want to upload a lot of files, but don't worry about that right now. There is a chapter at the end of this ebook which shows you how to use FTP.) Now click on +Folder and create a folder called images. Now expand (click on the + next to) public_html, and you will see the images folder. That is where you will upload your splash page images when you are ready. Now make sure you are in public_html again, and click on + Folder again. Create a folder called likes or recommends. You can call it splash if you like, but that looks funny in promotional s, if you plan to use the splash pages in your promotions. So now you should have the likes folder showing up below public_html. This is where your splash pages will be. So now you have a place to store your images, and a place to store your splash pages. Let's go make a splash! Creating A Simple Splash Page With Clickable Image This is your simplest splash page. All you need is an image. Reasons for making your own splash page: You want to stand out with a unique page You want to highlight a feature which you think will bring you sales The site you are promoting loads too slowly Autoplaying video is not accepted at some traffic exchanges (Solution: Take a screenshot of the video page, and put a message on it for people to click to watch.) Site breaks out of the surfbar frame Site is rejected for other technical reasons
Capturing Your Image If you already have an image provided by someone else, you won't need to create one. A simple solution for sales pages which are being rejected, or load too slowly, is to take a screenshot of them. I like to use Jing. With Jing, I can crop the image before I save it to my computer, and add text, arrows, and highlights. For example, here I've taken a screenshot from the sales pages of Build Your List With Ease. It works out nicely as a splash page, and I've added Click Here text with Jing. That's about as easy as it gets! You can use any screenshot program, or use the Print Screen button on your keyboard. Print Screen saves the image of the screen to your clipboard, and you can then paste it into your graphics program. (You'll find the Print Screen button at the top right of your keyboard. Sometimes it says PrtScr.) Tip: I recommend that you make your images no bigger than 800x600. want people to be able to see it all at first glance. You Editing Your Image Sometimes you will want to add text to an image, or crop or resize it. good easy-to-use graphics program is paint.net (much better than Microsoft Paint). It's easier than GIMP, which is also very popular. Both are free to download. Tip: Save your images as.jpg or.gif size and faster loading time. instead of.png for smaller file A Uploading Your Image Go back to cpanel and File Manager. Expand public_html and click on the images folder. Now click on Upload.
Now you can browse for the image on your computer: This form of upload works one image at a time. You will see when the upload is complete. Then click on the Go Back link to go back to the File Manager. And here is the image location: The image link will be Creating The Splash Page File Go to File Manager and click on the likes folder. Then click on + File.
Name your splash page with.html at the end of the name. asample.html. Then click on Create New File. For example, Now click on the name of your splash page to select it. Then click on HTML Editor. (Don't use Code Editor unless you know what you are doing.) You may get a popup asking you about the URL. Click Edit.
Now you will find yourself in the Editor. The HTML editor is very nice, and you can design your splash page right there in the editor. Here is the editor bar with all the features: You can design in the editor, or paste in Source code (HTML) or Preview your page. Just click on the Source or Preview buttons to switch between functions. To get back out of Source mode, click the Source button again. Make sure you click on the Save button (top left) when you are done! You can Design and Preview that page, but if you don't Save it, it will not appear in your files and your work will be lost. Click on the SAVE button while you are setting up your page as well. Making A Basic Splash Page When you open the HTML editor and click on Source, you will see code like this: If you want the browser tab to show a title for your page, insert the title between <title> and </title>, like this: Then click the Source button again to get back in design mode.
Now it's time to add a clickable image. editor. Click on the Image icon in the Now you will see a popup with several tabs. To begin with, we will add the Image Info. So, since we already uploaded the image earlier, we can click on the Browse Server button to get the image link (double click the image when you find it) or else simply enter the image link in the URL box. If the image is NOT on your server then you will need to enter the entire link beginning with Now we will go to the 2nd tab to enter the link which people will go to when they click on our image. Enter the link in the URL box. If you want the link to open in a new window, choose that option from the drop down menu where it says Target. Now click on OK at the bottom of the pop up, and you will see your image,
but it's not centered. So let's go and fix that. Click on your image to see it's boundaries, and then click to the right of the image. Then click on the centering icon in the editor, and your image will jump to the middle. My image looks too big, so let's get it to display smaller. Right-click on your image, and you will see a pop up which lets you update image properties: Now I'll set the image width to 650, and the editor automatically resizes the height to match:
At this point, the If you want to add and replace <body> whatever color you splash page has no background color, it is just white. a background color you will need to go back to source, with <body style="background-color: silver;"> (or prefer). You can get all the standard color names here Have fun! Other image options: Border put a number in the box. 1 gives you a border that is 1 pixel thick, 2 is 2 pixels thick, and so on. Vspace is the number of pixels between the image and other things, like text, to either side of it. Hspace is the number of pixels of space above and below the image. Click on Source again, so that you can see your design. Then Save. So now the splash page is done, and it's nicely centered with the title showing in the tab: My page url is if you followed the instructions, it would be On your site,
HTML Editor vs. Code Editor The HTML editor is great for creating your own basic splash pages, but if you are working with more complex code, such as from a template, or anything with php code in it, use the Code Editor instead. The HTML editor will tend to mess up any complicated coding. Learn Basic HTML At some point you will wonder how to do something in HTML, since the editor won't do everything you want. The internet is your best resource. Just search on your question and you will see lots of information. W3schools.com is a great resource for any coding questions, as well. It comes complete with examples which you can experiment with on their site and see the results for yourself. The information will not make sense at first, but you will understand more as you go along, and it will help you to create more of what you actually want. Some Basics Which Everyone Should Learn: Everyone should understand how to manage links in HTML and images! Thinking like a marketer... a link and an image translates into a clickable banner. It's something you use every day, and knowing how to put it together helps. Lists can be handy - Creating More Complex Pages Now that you know how to create a basic splash page, you can expand your skills to create pages with multiple images, or images, bullet points and a lead capture area. Let's make a simple squeeze page. If you are not in cpanel yet, then log in and click on File Manager. Click on public_html on the left. Then use the +File icon at the top to create a new File, like we did for the splash page example above. I will call my file demo6.html.
The squeeze page (lead capture page) is going to look like this: Now click on that demo6.html file and open it with the HTML Editor.
It will ask you a question about the URL. Just click on Edit. Now you will be faced with a blank page. Type in the first two lines of the heading (don't worry about formatting yet) and then create a table with 1 row and 2 columns. Set the table width to 600, make Border size zero (since we don't want a border around this table) and set the alignment to Center so the table will be centered. If you are going to give the squeeze page a colored background then click on the Advanced tab in Table Properties and set the table background to white, by adding table-background:white; to the style box. Then click on ok.
Now your table will appear. The gray lines are just for your reference. If you want to change anything about the table, right-click on it and you will see an option for Table Properties. Don't worry about the size of the cells, as they will expand when we add images and text. Now click inside the first cell of the table, and click on the Image icon, to add our ebook cover image. You will need to specify an image url, or else you can upload an image. It's best to upload to your own server unless the image is meant for affiliates to use, and if you know it will load quickly. Since we are building a squeeze page, we don't want people clicking on the ebook cover to go to a different link, so we will not link the image.
Now you will see your image in the left cell of the table. Click in the right cell of the table (it will be very narrow, but it will expand as you type) and type in the bullet points for the squeeze page. After the bullet points, put xxx where you want your autoresponder form code to go. Don't bother formatting your text yet. Save your work (using the Save icon at the top left of the editor) to prevent losing your work due to timeout.
Go to your autoresponder and find your form code, and copy it. How To Get Your Form Code in GVO: Log in to GVO. Click on Autoresponder in the left navigation bar. Then click on the Forms tab. Make sure you have the correct Campaign selected. Watch the training video in GVO for how to create a form. Tip: Sometimes when you click on the icon to get your form code, the popup window does not appear. That can happen because you accessed it earlier, and then went back to your main browser and the popup window is actually still there, but it's hidden behind the main browser window. Minimize your main browser window and you will find the popup with your autoresponder form code. Now go back to your editor, click on the Source button, and find the xxx. Then select the xxx and replace it with the form code which you copied from your autoresponder (i.e. paste the form code in place of the xxx).
Now click on the Source button again, and you will see your opt in form in place. Don't worry about the strange little boxes above the opt in form. will not display on your actual squeeze page. They Now it's time to format the text. Select the first line of text, then change it from Normal text to Heading 1. Now click on the icon to center the headline. Now click on the text color icon and change the headline color to red.
And there it is! Save your page again. Now select the next line. Set it as Heading 2 and center it. That line is too wide, so put your cursor after the word Host and hit the shift key and the enter key at the same time. (Shift+Enter) This will break that line into two lines, without making the gap between the lines too big. (Just hitting Enter would leave a larger gap.) Now select the bullet points, and use the B button to make them Bold.
Now hit shift+enter after the word Splash in the 3rd bullet point, to break that line up nicely. Select the 4th line and change the font color to red. Oops, one more thing... Hit the Source button again, and enter the words Set Yourself Free! between <title> and </title>. Then hit the Source button again. And now your page is done! Save it, and hit the Preview button to see how great it looks! The page url is followed the instructions, it would by On your site, if you You can watch me build this page on video here. Make A Squeeze Page Like Daegan Smith Uses This is a sample page created and used by Daegan Smith, the king of list building, which he showed on a recent webinar:
Deagan says that uglier converts better! like that too, and it's so simple. Well now you can make a page First, log in to cpanel and click on File Manger. Then click on public_html and create a new file using +File, just as we did for the previous squeeze page. Let's call this one daegan.html. Now open daegan.html with the HTML Editor. Click on the table icon to create a table with 1 row and 1 column. Make it 400 wide, with a zero border, and set the alignment to center. Enter all the text, then select it all and center it.
Save your page, using the Save icon at the top left of the editor. will format the text later. We Now create your opt in form in your autoresponder so it only asks for address, not name. (You can do that with GVO autoresponder, not necessarily with all other autoresponders.) Specify a thank you page which has the information you want to show them immediately after they opt in. Get your form code from your autoresponder. Go back to your editor. Click on the Source button and find the xxx. Paste your form code from your autoresponder into your Source, replacing the xxx. Now click the Source button again, and your page will look like this: Now select the words Please enter your and delete them. Now right-click on the Submit button, and click on Button Properties.
Where it says Text (Value) type in Click to Continue.... OK button. Then hit the Now your button says Click to Continue... instead of Submit. Let's format the text. Select the headline, and set it to Heading 3:
Then keep it selected, and change the color to red: The second line of the headline has overflowed onto the 3 rd line, so let's make the table a little wider to allow it all to fit. Right-click on the table, and then click on Table Properties. Change the table width from 400px to 450px:
Save again, and check your preview: If you want your text farther down the page, go back to the editor, put your cursor in the same table cell as the headline, and right-click. Click on Row, and then click on Insert Row Before. new table cell above your headline. Now you can set the properties of your new cell. cell, click on Cell, then on Cell Properties. This will create a Right-click in the Set the Cell Height to 100 and then click OK.
That will push your text down the page by 100 pixels. that number to whatever you think looks best. You can adjust Save your page again, and here it is in the Preview: And voila, you have a super effective squeeze page! My squeeze page link is Yours will be if you have followed instructions. Adding Video to Your Page Use the Media icon to add videos and other media to your page. (At the time of writing this ebook, the media function in the HTML editor did not work for me.) Or alternatively, simply put xxx where you want your video to go, align it, then go to Source and replace the xxx with your video embed code. Here is an example of adding YouTube embed code: You can add it to an existing page, or create a new page in File Manager. Open your page with HTML Editor. Enter a headline, xxx (where your video will go) and a click here line. Then select all your text and center it.
Save your file. Now get your embed code from YouTube: You will need to find your video on YouTube, then click on the Share icon below it to see the options. Click on the Embed option. Select your video size. Untick the box for Show suggested videos because you don't want your viewer distracted after your video finishes. Then copy the iframe embed code. Now go back to your HTML editor and click on Source. Find the xxx and replace it with the iframe code from YouTube.
Click on Source again. Now you will see a box where your video will be. You can also check the Preview to see the video in place. Big BUT... Some traffic exchanges and safelists reject sites with the new iframe embed code. So here is a way to embed your video, without an iframe. Copy the iframe code from YouTube to a text file. Go to and enter your YouTube iframe code in the box there. Click on the Generate Code button.
Copy the result and paste that into your text file. Now go back to your HTML editor, click on Source, and add that new code instead of the iframe code (or instead of the xxx). Now click on Source again and see how it looks. The video box won't be the right size, but you can check the Preview to see the video correctly. Select the Get your own valid XHTML... link and delete it if you don't want it there.
Now format your headline, just like we did for the squeeze page. Make the link below the video clickable. Select the text, and then use the link icon in the editor to insert a link to your download or opt in page. Save your file again. Add a title for the browser tab if you like. You could also add opt in form code instead of a clickable link below the video. Just create a table with 1 row and 1 column below the video, and insert your autoresponder form code in the table, as we did for the squeeze page earlier. Here is my page:
And here is my link: Adding A Background Color To Your Page Go to Source, and replace <body> with <body style="background-color: black;"> The page background will be black. You can find other color names here. You can also use the hex value for your color. is # The hex value for black If you don't see the <body> then save your page, close it, and then go back into it again. Or, open the page with the Code Editor instead of the HTML Editor. Note: If your table backgrounds all become the same color as your page background, right-click on the table and use Table Properties to set the background color you want for the actual tables. You will need to type in background-color: white; in the style box, after the width of your table.
Adding A Background Image To Your Page A background image will appear behind all the other elements on your page. Go to Source, and between the <head> and <body> tags, enter something like this: <style> body { background-image: url(" } </style> (Replace with the link to the image you would like to use as your background.) You can find out more about background images, with examples, here Note: Do not link to images from other people's sites! Always upload the images to your own hosting. (Exception: It is usually ok to link to promotional banners and promotional images for products of which you are an affiliate.) Creating A Thank You Page $$$ When people opt in to your list, you can send them to the standard page which is provided by your autoresponder, or you can send them to a thank you page. Your thank you page will have your photo, a short message telling them to look for your s, and YOUR ads.
In cpanel, click on your main directory (public_html) and then use the +File button to create your thankyou.html file. Now select thankyou.html from your files, and click on HTML Editor. (You can also right-click on the file name and select the editor from the drop down menu.) In the editor, click on the Insert Table icon. Insert a table with 1 column and 3 rows. Also, set the border to 0 and set the Alignment to Centered. Set the table width to 600.
Click in the cell, and then use the images icon from the toolbar to insert your profile photo. This time, we will upload the photo from our computer. Click on Browse to find your photo on your computer, and then click on Send it to the Server to upload it. Now it's uploaded the photo. Click on OK.
Now the photo will show up in your table, but it will not be centered. To fix this, right-click in the table, and choose Cell, and then Cell Properties. Set Horizontal Alignment to Center.
Now your photo, and all the other data you enter into this table, will be centered. Type your name and contact details below your photo. Now type in a message something like this: Thank you for subscribing. Watch out for your first , it should be in your inbox soon. If you do not receive it, please check your junk mail folder. Tip: If you are using this thank you page for one specific list, you can provide the link to the original opt in page as well, and tell people to try again with a different address if they don't get your . Use the font styles to make your text look nice. Save your page! Now comes the interesting part... your ads! Have you got a banner rotator? Type in xxx where you want your banners to show, then click on the Source button at the bottom of the page. Get your banner rotator code, copy it, and paste it in place of the xxx. Now click on the Source button again, and you should see one of your banners on display. Or, put your best banner there, without a rotator. You can also put a few more ads down the page if you like. scroll down out of curiosity. People will Now go back to Source and add your title for the browser tab, and set your page background to silver (or some other color you like).
Click the Source button again. If your table background has become the same color as your page background, right-click on the table and use Table Properties to set the background color you want for the actual tables. You will need to type in background-color: white; in the style box, after the width of your table. Save your page! Creating a Download Page A download page is made the same as a thank you page. Just call it download.html, or something else which makes sense to you. If you don't want it to be easily guessed, then come up with some unique name. Use the table to line up items, as was done for the thank you page. Instead of your photo, put an image of your download item. (For example,
an ecover.) Below that, put the download link, and perhaps your contact details in case there is a problem. Next, put your ads... as you did for the thank you page. Tip: If you have already created a thank you page, then copy it and that will give you the base for your download page. Here is how you can copy it: Go to public_html in cpanel and select your thankyou.html file. click and click on Copy. Now type in the name that you want for your download page. this one dlhowto.html. Right- I'm naming And here it is: Now open it with the HTML editor, and you won't have to re-enter tables and advertising links. To change any attributes of the table, right-click on the table and click on Table Properties. (For example, if you want the table wider.) To delete your profile image, click on it to select it, and then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
In this case I will use a website link for my download image, since it's an affiliate promotion. So put your cursor where you want the image, and then click on the Image icon in the editor. Now enter the image URL, and add Alt text for people who can't see. Now you can see your ecover on the download page. Put a heading above it, something like Here Is Your Download and format it as Heading 1. When you start typing, the text might be to the left of the image. That is ok. Once you hit enter, it will jump up above the image. Remove any unwanted text below the image, and type in Click Here To Download Your Copy or something like that.
Now we are going to make that link clickable. If you have a link to the ebook, and the link can be accessed without logging in to the site it comes from, then add that link now by selecting the text you just entered, and clicking on the Link icon. Now you can enter the website link of the PDF (ebook). Save your page! Here is how my download page looks after editing. It's clean, simple, adaptable... and I have full control over what appears on it.
Note: Some websites will not allow you to download a PDF from their link unless you are logged in. Check your PDF download link and make sure that is not the case, or else your subscribers will not be able to access their download. In this case, you will need to download your copy of the PDF to your computer, and then upload it to your hosting. (Upload just like you'd upload an image or a zip file.) Then add the link to the PDF on your server, instead of using the link from the other site's server. How To Upload A PDF To Your Own Server First, download the PDF to your own computer. you can find it again, like on your Desktop. Save it somewhere where Next, log in to cpanel and go to File Manager. Click on public_html. Create a folder for your PDFs by clicking the +Folder icon. If you want your PDFs to be secret, name the folder something that is not easy to guess. Then smarties can't just help themselves to your downloads without going through your funnel.
I will call mine downloadz. Next, click on that new folder. (It will be below the public_html folder.) Then click on the Upload icon. Now select your file from your desktop, let it upload, and then click on the Go Back link.
Now you can see the PDF in the downloadz file: The link to the PDF is You can use your version of this link for the clickable link on your download page. Simply go back to your download page and open it with the HTML editor. Now right-click on the download link, and choose the option to Edit Link.
Now enter the link to the PDF on your server. Click OK. Save your page! Now type your download page link into the browser and test that download link to be sure it is all ok. How To Host Your Own Version Of An Affiliate Page Sometimes you might love a page from another site, but you'd like to host it yourself for some reason. Perhaps you want your own banner at the bottom, or the page loads slowly. Here is what you need to do to get the source code: Get the splash page link, and enter it into your browser. When you can see your page, right-click on the borders of the page (not over a clickable image) and take the option to Save Page As in Firefox or Save as in Chrome. If you are not getting that option, then try on a different part of the page. The Save As option will allow you to save that page as an HTML file on your computer. Then you can upload the page directly to your server. Another option in the same menu is View Page Source. With this option, you will see the actual source code in a new browser window, and you can copy and paste it into your code editor. (You could try pasting it into Source in your HTML editor, but it may or may not work, depending on how complex the code is.)
Now that you have the file saved on your computer, go to cpanel, then File Manager, and find your public_html folder. If you want this page to go in a subfolder (like the likes folder which we created earlier) then click on that. Now use the Upload option to upload the page. Now my file is showing in the folder, but it has spaces in the name so that needs to be fixed. Right-click on the file name, and click on the Rename option.
Change the name to whatever you like. Now let's see how this looks in the browser: Yikes! What's this? Don't panic, it's easy to fix. When coders insert images, they often don't in the code, and the domain defaults to the have just changed the domain to our own, so either host the images ourselves, or change put the domain of the image domain of the page. But we now we have 2 options the links in the code. Here is how to change the links: First, open the file with Code editor and look for all the <img src= because that is where the image links will be. Then see how we find the correct links below, and insert them manually. OR open the file with the HTML editor and right-click on one of the squares where an image should be, but isn't appearing.
See Image properties. The URL of the image will be like this: Now go to the original splash page, put your cursor in the same area of the page, right-click and Copy image location in Firefox or Copy image address in Chrome. Now paste the image location in the URL box in Image Properties, and click the OK button to save it. Now your page will look like this: Save your page. Do the same thing for all the images, except the background. Keep saving your page between images. To get the background image link, right-click on the background and click the option to View background image.
Now you need to go into the source, and replace the background image link with the link you just got above: Click the Source button again, then Preview, and ta-da! Your page is looking great! Important! Don't stop yet. Click on any clickable images and links. Do they go to the right place? If not, go back to HTML editor and fix them. Right-click on any clickable images, and click on the Edit Link option. Then enter your correct affiliate URL in the URL box:
Now Save your page, and go test it in your browser. links go where you want them to. Make sure all the Do you want to add another link or banner at the bottom of the page? You might have trouble getting below the table, in the HTML editor. And if you add your link into the table, you might mess up the alignment of the page. Go to Source again, and scroll to the bottom of the page. Find where it says </table> and </body> and type in xxx after the </table>. Now click the Source button again and find the xxx at the bottom of your page. You can replace that with some other text, center it, and add a link. Here's mine: Save your page! To Host Your Own Images For An Affiliate Splash Page To host your own, instead of linking to the images off your site, you
will need to go to the original splash page. Right-click on each image and Save image as. This will download the images to your computer. Now upload them to your images folder in your hosting. Then link to them on your hosting in the editor, just like we linked to the off-site images. Using Squeeze Page Templates Your own pages can be very effective, but sometimes you will want to use professionally made pages. And that means using a template. Templates usually have a nice design, and it's up to you to fill in details of your offer, add your autoresponder code, etc. To use a template, you will need to buy one, then upload it to your hosting. Or, you can use a squeeze page maker such as Magic Guru Squeeze, or Funnel Kit. Usually, a template will be in a zip file, which you can upload in the File Manager just like you uploaded the image files. Once uploaded, you can extract the zip file and it will unpack all the zipped files for you, creating sub directories when necessary. Magic Guru Squeeze Page Maker I like Magic Guru Squeeze Page Maker. It allows you to create some really nice squeeze pages on your computer, and then upload them to your hosting. It comes with a variety of beautiful backgrounds, and an easy squeeze page generator. The pages work on most devices. You can even create squeeze pages for your Facebook pages. Here is how it works: 1. Buy and download the squeeze page file to your computer. 2. Unzip the zipped files on your computer. 3. Run the squeeze page maker. (Instructions here.) It will save all the files you need for your new squeeze page, in the folder that you specify. It will also save all these files in a zipped file inside that folder, called magicgurusqueeze.
4. It will also ask you to save again before you exit. This will save the script for your squeeze page, so that you can make changes without having to start from scratch. 5. Go to cpanel and create a new folder. Call this folder whatever you want your squeeze page to be named, for example, awesome. 6. Upload the zipped magicgurusqueeze file from your folder above to your new folder in cpanel. 7. Extract the zipped file in cpanel. (Do this by clicking on it to select it, then clicking on the Extract icon in the toolbar.) 8. Your squeeze page URL will be Funnel Kit Squeeze Page Maker Funnel Kit is a simple to use plug-in for WordPress. It creates squeeze pages and more, with no coding required. You don't have to host the pages you make on your Wordpress blog. You can export the HTML to your other websites. You can create lead capture pages, sales pages, webinar registration pages, thank you pages, download pages and even geographically targeted pages with city backgrounds. You can even make pages with video backgrounds, using YouTube videos, which you have the option to mute. When you buy Funnel Kit, you will have access to their videos which tell you how to install it, and which explain every feature in detail. Here are some samples of pages made with Funnel Kit:
How To Install Funnel Kit If you haven't added WordPress to your site yet, you will need to do that first. Instructions are below. Next, log in to your Wordpress admin dashboard. Click on Plugins. Now click on Add New. Now click on upload, then browse for funnelkit.zip and click on Install Now.
Click on Activate Plugin. Now you will find Funnel Kit at the bottom left of your Dashboard. will need to add your license key before you can use it. You Note: Funnel Kit requires WordPress 3.8 or higher. You will see your WordPress version displayed at the bottom of the Dashboard. If it is not up to date and you can't update it yourself, contact support at GVO and they will update it for you. Adding WordPress To Your Site If you want to use WordPress plugins, you will first need to install WordPress on your hosting. It's easy to do. Adding Wordpress To Your Site In GVO Back Office In GVO, you can add Wordpress to your site simply by logging in to your GVO back office and using the Install facility inside Blogger Builder. This is good if you don't have anything on your site yet. There is an install wizard which will walk you through the steps for your site. Adding Wordpress To Your Site In cpanel Log in to cpanel and scroll down to Software. There you will see Softaculous Apps Installer. Click on the icon. Inside Softaculous, mouseover the Wordpress icon and click on Install, or click on Blogs and you will find Wordpress in the menu and click on that.
Now click on the blue Install button. Now you can choose which domain to install it on. If you want people to go to your blog when they enter your domain name, then don't add a directory. Your blog address will be If you want your blog to be an addon to your domain, then type in the directory you want it installed in. Then, if you call the directory wp, your blog address will be You don't need to actually be a blogger, or have a blog-style website. You can use the Wordpress installation to create a regular website, or to use plugins such as Funnel Kit to create the HTML for your pages.
Now enter your site name and site description, if you are a blogger. Otherwise you can leave the Site Settings as they are. For the Admin Account details, try to use something other than admin as the Admin Username. Too many hackers are out there trying all the regular entries, so don't make it easy for them. Use the golden key to generate a password. Note: Softaculous has set admin@carolw44.com as the admin . That address does not exist on my server. So take note of the address you get here. You may wish to create that address in cpanel later, or change it to an existing address. (If you already have a default address set up, then s to an unknown address on your domain will end up there, so it's ok.) Now you get to choose your language, and to say if you want to use the Loginizer plugin to limit login attempts by hackers. I have no comment on the Loginizer plugin itself since I have not used it. There are other
plugins which do the same thing, and it is a good idea to have one. Advanced options include automatic updates and backups. Tick those you want. Changing the Database Name and Table Prefix can help protect you from hackers. I suggest allowing automatic upgrades, but read the help text for each option by hovering over the little icon next to each one. Backups are important. Choose a backup frequency which makes sense to you, depending on your intended usage of the blog. The number of remember that with problems you know what backups saved has 4 as the default. You can have more, but each backup will take up disk space and you could end up if you exceed your quota, so don't go unlimited unless you are doing! Now you can select a theme for your blog. Or you can let it default to the current default WordPress theme. I suggest you go for the default. Finding a theme you like can take up many interesting hours of browsing, and you can do that later when you have time.
Now it's time to enter your address and hit the Install button! Wait for the installation to finish. And now the installation is done. Check your for the installation details, including your password. Check your Spam folder if you don't see it in your in box soon, and add the sender to your Contacts. Save the details in a text file or print them off. The first link above is the public link, where people can see your blog. You will need to log in to the Administrative URL to manage your blog or write posts to your blog. Now click on the icon to get back to cpanel. How To Log In To Your WordPress Blog Dashboard Type in the URL which you were given during the WordPress installation. It should be your blog url with /wp-admin/ added on to the end of it.
For example, Then enter your username and password which you set up during installation. How To Set Up Your Account(s) On Your Hosting Did you know that having a from address on your own domain, will actually improve your autoresponder deliverability? So, log in to cpanel now and set up an account, if you do not have one already. Look for the s section, and click on the Accounts icon.
I'll call this my domain. If you use the password generator, it won't let you use the password until you tick the box to say that you have saved it to a safe place. Set the quota to unlimited, so that your s don't bounce due to a full in box. (But remember to check your s once in a while and delete old ones.) Then click on the Create Account button. Now you can see your new account listed under Accounts. You will see information about your accounts, and a drop down menu. Click on the Access Webmail option to read or manage your s any time. If you forget your password, you can change it using the Change Password link. :)
Now you will see a page with horde, roundcube and squirrel. Just click on one of those, and you will be logged in to your account. How To Forward Your Domain s To Your Main Address Logging in to webmail can be tedious but you need to know if people have replied to your s, so you might like to forward your s to your everyday address. Look for the s section in cpanel again, and click on the Forwarders icon. Now you have a choice. You can forward all s from this domain to a particular address, or you can forward s for each account, individually.
I will take the option to forward accounts individually, since that is more flexible. And here is my message saying that the forward is now in place. Just remember to log in to webmail in cpanel every so often, to delete old mails and check that you are not over quota (if you have set a limit on the quota.) How To Upload Files Using FTP You already know how to use File Manager in cpanel to upload files. That is the simplest way, but sometimes your files will be too large, or you might want to give someone else (graphics designer, website designer) access to your site without giving them your cpanel logins. First, you will need to create an FTP account. Creating An FTP Account This is easy. FTP Accounts. Log in to cpanel, and scroll down to Files and click on
Now create an account. I am calling mine ftp4, and the system automatically wants to create a directory for that account BUT if I do that, then I will be restricted to that directory for my file uploads SO in the entry for Directory, I will remove the ftp4. Make sure you save your password. You will see your new FTP account listed. If you click on Configure FTP Client at the right of the listing, you will see details which you will need to enter in your FTP program, plus links to configuration files and Instructions for each program.
You need an FTP Client program to securely upload the files from your computer to your hosting. Download and Set Up FileZilla FTP Client Go to the FileZilla site and download FileZilla Client. It is free open source software and there are versions for most computers. Run the downloaded file. You can Decline the various software programs they try to get you to download (unless you want them). This will install FileZilla on your computer. Then FileZilla will start, and you can use the settings from the Manual Settings in your cpanel to do a Quickconnect to your hosting. In the screenshot below, you can see the FileZilla window sitting below the FTP settings in cpanel. You will see a list of your files on your computer, and a list of files on your hosting, in the FileZilla window. Click on the folder or file you want (to select it), then right-click and choose the option to Upload. In this example, I want to upload the MINISITE folder.
FileZilla will create a directory called MINISITE (same as the name of the folder I selected) on my hosting, and upload the contents to that directory. (Directory = Folder) If you want to upload to a particular directory (folder) on your hosting, select that directory before you start the upload. For example, I want to upload to my images folder. So I click on images in my Remote Site listing, or enter images in the text field. Now when I select a file to upload from my computer, it will end up in the images folder. This covers the basics you will need for most of your work. There is lots more learn more. you can do with FTP. Go to the FileZilla Wiki to How To Make Money With GVO GVO company owner Joel Therien has made a series of videos about how you can make money with GVO and the upgraded level of GVO, which is called PureLeverage. (You can upgrade to PureLeverage by logging in to your GVO back office, and clicking on the big red PureLeverage button.) Watch Joel's videos here. Video 2 shows you how to build a website using your PureLeverage blog. You can follow the same steps to build a website using your Wordpress
