1 How to read s in SharePoint? SharePoint is the central location for your documents and s. If you have stored your s in SharePoint (e.g. with our Outlook add-on SOXS) you can find documents and correspondence to an activity or project in one place. However, if you want to read the contents of an in Outlook, it must be opened! Each time you open an it requires a double-click and the acknowledgement of a security prompt. The new program focus is on Outlook. If you want to read another , you must close the previously opened , go back to the SharePoint and find the next in the library. These are Five clicks and a time-consuming process! This is much too slow, if you need to browse through several s quickly... The solution The SharePoint reader can remedy this problem! The SharePoint reader displays the contents of Outlook MSG files in a freely positionable window in the browser, with just a single mouse click. The SharePoint reader is a One-Click -Solution to read s in SharePoint! And this is how it works: To read a simply click the icon of an . This opens a window displaying the body of the . 2 The reader window closes automatically, as soon as you click any position outside of the reading window. Read all s in a SharePoint Library with a single click of the mouse! And the reader can do even more: Copy Read You can copy text from the to the clipboard to insert it other documents. The reader allows users, who do not have Outlook installed on their computers, to read Outlook-MSG and EML-files. Customize Resize and move the reader window! 3 Installation This installation guide is addressed to SharePoint administrators. The reader is installed as a SharePoint feature and can then be activated per site collection. You must have administrator privileges for SharePoint Server to install the reader. The SharePoint reader is a WSP file ( Windows SharePoint Services solution package), which must installed with the SharePoint Management Shell. Installation Overview In order to install the reader, you need go through the following steps: Add the solution to the SharePoint server 1. In SharePoint Central Administration add the solution to the farm solutions 2. Deploy the solution 3. Activate the feature per site collection. 4. Activate the license Installation and Licensing in Detail On the following pages, the installation and licensing of the reader will be described in detail. (It is assumed that the SharePoint solution /WSP-file is located on the SharePoint Web- Frontend-Server (WFE) in the directory C: \ reader). 1. Add the Solution to the Farm Solutions Please run the following commands one at a time in the SharePoint Management Shell that you previously have started as administrator: Add-SPSolution -LiteralPath C: \ reader \SysCom.SharePoint. reader.Components.wsp Install-SPSolution -Identity SysCom.SharePoint. reader.Components.wsp -GACDeployment 2. Activate the Feature per Site Collection. Now you need to activate the feature per sitecollection. To do this, select the commands in the respective site Site Action, Site Settings, Manage Site features and activate the feature GFA SYSCOM SharePoint reader " (see figure). In this state the reader works in its trial mode and shows a watermark, when opening s. Page 3 of 10

4 3. Activate the License Please note that you need to activate your license after purchase! With your purchase, you have received a preliminary license. To activate the license, you need to upload it to the license activation form. You will then receive the activated license in return by , which you then install on your SharePoint server. You can start the activation process from any computer by browsing to When you start the activation from the central administration though, you will be rewarded with automated transfer of the Hardware-ID of your server to the activation form. This process is described in the following: In the SharePoint Central Administration s click "general application settings" and open the license management. Please Click on the following link and open the license Manager: You are now presented with the licensing overview: The link Activate License will take you to the following activation page on the Internet: Page 4 of 10

5 1. If not already set, please enter the Hardware ID of the SharePoint server. 2. Upload license file (license.license) 3. Fill in your address. An activated license file will be sent to this address. 4. Click on Activate to start the activation process. You can then close the browser and will then receive the activated product license to the specified address. 5. Copy the license file, named license_mailrader.license to your SharePoint server. 6. In Central Administration, SharePoint reader Licensing, click Install License. 7. After you have installed the license file, you need to reset the IIS on the SharePoint server. This completes the installation. To install the result types reader must be installed (see instruction in SharePoint reader 2015), and the following features need to be activated: At site collection level the feature "SharePoint Server Publishing infrastructure", At site level "SharePoint Server Publishing". Installation of the Search Result Types Activate the site collection feature "GFA SysCom GmbH SharePoint Reader Search Display template". It provides the Search Display templates for the respective site collection. Page 5 of 10

6 In the Site Settings of the site collection to a result type: the Search Display Templates have to be assigned 1) In Site Collection Settings click on Result types (Site Settings -> [Search] -> Result types) 2) In the context menu of the result types click copy. 3) This opens a form for a new result type. Give it the name "Mailreader". In the dropdown what the results should look like choose Mailreader item", and then click OK. Page 6 of 10

Therefore a prerequisite for the use of the SharePoint reader is, that the Type column is displayed in the view. If necessary, modify the view an tag the column Type to display. Page 8 of 10
