1 CCTV IP Network Video Technical Brief VSG and Remote Camera Connection 1 VSG and Remote Camera Connection Overview Bosch Video Streaming Gateway (VSG) has the ability to pull video in from a remotely located device. This technical brief provides step by step instructions on how to connect to and record a remote Bosch IP video device. Purpose This implementation provides a solution to the following situations: There are existing video devices that you need to bring in to a new centralized system Existing network design forces you to place devices onto a different network segment than that of your VRM and iscsi targets A remote device needs to be recorded and monitored for any number of reasons Since the VSG performs a pull none of the video device s iscsi sessions are consumed, and no port forwarding configurations need to be performed on the VSG side of the network. Pulling a RCP+ stream does consume one of the available Unicast connections on the stream that is being utilized. Prior to Starting: The instructions in this technical brief are based on a BVMS system that already has a VRM and VRM iscsi storage added to its configuration: VSG comes preinstalled on all DIVAR IP Recording Appliances When using the default installation of VSG it provides 7 worker instances, each capable of handling 32 cameras VSG is subject to the iscsi bandwidth restrictions of the hardware it is installed on In the scenario described in this technical brief, VSG functionality is also restricted to the upload and download speeds of all network links involved. The remote device must be accessible via its IP address from the VSG Server Adding the Video Streaming Gateway From Configuration Client select the Devices tab Select VRM Devices menu Select the system s VRM icon and the select the Pool submenu Right click the Pool submenu o Select the Add Video Streaming Gateway submenu

2 CCTV IP Network Video Technical Brief VSG and Remote Camera Connection 2 This should open the Add Video Streaming Gateway pop up menu: o Enter a name for the VSG instance o Enter the IP address of the location where VSG is installed o Leave the port number default o Select the Add tab After selecting the Add tab you should see the VSG instance in the device tree o Click on the VSG instance to highlight it With the VSG instance highlighted select the Assignment menu tab o From the bottom right of the assignment menu select the Add tab

3 CCTV IP Network Video Technical Brief VSG and Remote Camera Connection 3 This should open the Add/Edit pop up menu: o Enter the IP address of the remote device in format as shown in the example on the right o Enter the User name and password to the device. The default administrator account to all Bosch IP devices is service o Select the Connect tab. After connecting to the device the Protocol settings menu will be accessible. o Leave the Type menu set to Bosch RCP+ o Select the desired Video input and Stream that you configured to conform to your available bandwidth o In the Protocol drop down menu select TCP o Select OK After saving and activating the working configuration you should see the status of the newly added device as streaming Select the Advance Settings tab and Recording Profiles submenu. The Recording status should be On

4 CCTV IP Network Video Technical Brief VSG and Remote Camera Connection 4 Configuring a Workstation Before leaving the Devices tab we need to configure the BVMS Operator Client workstation to access both live and recorded video from VSG instead of the remote video device From the Device Tree select the Workstation icon and right click Select the AddWorkstation submenu This will open a Add Workstation pop up menu o Enter the IP address of the BVMS Operator Client that will have access to the remote device o Select OK o Multiple workstations can be added within the systems license limitations After adding the workstation, from the Settings menu: o Select the Retrieve Live video from Streaming Gateway instead of camera menu o You should see the VSG instance you just added. Place a check in the box o Save your changes

5 CCTV IP Network Video Technical Brief VSG and Remote Camera Connection 5 Adding the VSG Device to the Logical Tree For the device to be visible in Operator Client it must be added to the Logical Tree From the Maps and Structure tab select the VRM Devices menu o From the VSG submenu locate the newly added device o Click hold and drag the device to the desired location in the Logical Tree to the right o Save your changes. Recording Profile To ensure the device is on the desired recording profile select the Cameras and Recording tab and the select the VRM radio button From the Recording Column use the drop down menu and select the desired recording profile for the remote device o Save any changes made and activate your configuration Viewing Video with BVMS Operator Client To verify your work open BVMS Operator Client

6 CCTV IP Network Video Technical Brief VSG and Remote Camera Connection 6 The remote device should be visible in the Logical Tree Click hold and drag the camera to an available video cameo and you should receive a live video stream Note: BVMS Oerator Client must be added as an exception to Windows Firewall To view recorded video switch to Playback mode o Find the remote device in the Logical Tree o Click hold and drag to an available video cameo o You should receive video and the Time Line should populate o Select the Play button to view recordings
