5 Tiled Displays Expression of Interest Instead of 1-2 OptiPortals Deploy multiple smaller tiled-displays 1 st round promoted internally via EOI Collaboration a requirement Five responses received from various teams Genomics, environmental monitoring, materials, human factors. Commonalities exploring large/complex datasets, collaborative real-time viz, associated video-conferencing 12 Units deployed across Australia 1. 6 Tiled Displays Main users to date Genome Sequence Alignment Multiple sequence alignment, requiring visual QC (+8000 michondrial genomes) For > 50 sequences, much more efficient on larger displays Remote CT Collaborating with colleagues in WA Using EVO, X-TRACT, Drishti, Avizo Interactive display and analysis of large 3D images and 2D sequences Part of joint Multi-spectral CT of rocks project Virtual Mining Design and prototype a framework enabling users at multiple sites, to simultaneously share and interact with large-scale volumetric data sets. Generated from different imaging modalities sourced from domains such as geoscience, X-ray micro-tomography and biomedical Still relatively limited uptake overall

8 Tiled Displays Addressing the issues Portable design Smaller, lighter systems might be a better way forward Located in offices, or team/work areas Thin bezel monitors Should address cursor/dialogue box problems However, trade-off with size/resolution Reduce complexity System needs to be more transparent Simplify/constrain the desktop experience Limit number of icons, pre-configure tools and scripts More appropriate user interface tools eg ipad, gestures More targeted training/systems Work with individuals groups and specific datasets eg WA specific screen config (portrait vs landscape) 8

Requirements drift from one meeting to the next Availability of researchers time Gaining appropriate approval (not just researcher s folly ) Resource prioritisation and allocation Which projects are more important? Who decides? How much time to allocate to each one? Outreach promoting the capability 16
