Introduction Chapter Introduction 1: Shunra's Network Virtualization enables an effective software testing and application performance engineering methodology. Shunra provides the capabilities to virtualize real-world network conditions in the test environment; analyze test results in order to isolate potential bottlenecks, and automatically deliver custom performance optimization recommendations. Network virtualization tests consist of a number of pre-defined parameters. The network conditions can be defined, or captured from production networks using an additional Shunra product, the NetworkCatcher, or can be downloaded from Shunra s Global Library. Shunra's integration with HP Software includes the following components: Shunra NV for HP Performance Center This component provides the user interface which is used to define the network virtualization settings within the HP Performance Center tests. Shunra NV for HP Controller This component provides the user interface which is used to define the network virtualization settings within the HP LoadRunner tests. This component also provides an integrated license management mechanism required to include network virtualization within HP LoadRunner. Shunra NV for HP Load Generator Shunra NV for HP Load Generator is the component that runs on each HP Load Generator. During a load test you do not access the Shunra NV for HP Load Generator user interface, as all configuration is done centrally via the HP LoadRunner Controller or HP Performance Center. The Shunra NV for HP Load Generator includes a Shunra network virtualization driver that applies selective traffic impairments for traffic flows between

1-2 Shunra NV for HP Software Manual Chapter 1 the load generator and the application servers being tested. The Shunra NVcomponent can also run independently if required for troubleshooting or specific test scenarios. Shunra Global Library Shunra NV Global Library contains a rich collection of mobile and landline network conditions between various locations on the globe. These conditions include latency, packet loss and bandwidth. This regularly updated library, built on millions of data points, provides real world point-to-point network conditions recorded around the world and can be accessed from both the HP Performance Center and HP LoadRunner. Shunra NV Editor The NV Editor can define complex network scenarios which can also include recorded data. The NV Editor is contained in the Shunra NV for HP Load Generator component. The conditions can be saved in a file that can be used when defining a Virtual Location. Shunra NV Analytics Shunra NV Analytics conducts an analysis based on emulation results which assists in pinpointing factors that negatively impact an application's operation across a network. Shunra Analytics conducts an analysis based on packet list data, then displays the resulting data in informative reports that provide insight into an application's operation. NetworkCatcher NetworkCatcher captures and records production network parameters including latency, packet loss and bandwidth availability directly from the enterprise environment. These network conditions can then be used when defining Virtual Locations and in the NV Editor; for more details refer to the NetworkCatcher Manual. NetworkCatcher requires a separate license. 7 Introduction Chapter Integration with HP Software Shunra Network Virtualization integrates seamlessly into HP Software enhancing testing accuracy by incorporating real-world network conditions into the load and performance test environment. Shunra's integration with HP Load- Runner and HP Performance Center applications provides a software-based solution that emulates a wide area network link from each HP Load Generator, or in many virtualized locations on the same HP Load Generator to the server(s) of the application undergoing the performance test. HP LoadRunner and HP Performance Center generate the application transaction load while the Shunra component augments the performance test by applying the anticipated production network conditions to the test. As a result, the performance test presents a realistic network virtualization of load and network conditions. Shunra Integration with HP Performance Center The Shunra NV components for HP Performance Center provide an integrated user interface that controls the Shunra network virtualization capabilities from within the HP Performance Center. The Shunra NV for HP Performance Center component must be installed on the HP Performance Center. In addition, every HP LoadRunner Controller and the HP Load Generators that are configured with it per HP Performance Center, must be configured with the components listed in Shunra Integration with HP LoadRunner. The flow is the same on the HP Performance Center as on the HP LoadRunner Controller, except that the test is configured on the HP Performance Center. Shunra NV Analytics can be installed on a machine that meets the requirements. Shunra for HP Performance Center includes the following components: Licensing for Shunra NV for HP Software (page 1-4) Shunra NV for HP Controller (page 1-1) Shunra NV for HP Load Generator (page 1-1) which also includes the Shunra NV Editor (page 1-2)

1-4 Shunra NV for HP Software Manual Chapter 1 Shunra Integration with HP LoadRunner The network virtualization parameters can be defined within the HP LoadRunner Controller user interface for each Virtual Location or HP Load Generator during configuration of the performance test. Shunra NV includes specialized integration interfaces to work seamlessly within the HP LoadRunner environment. Shunra for HP LoadRunner includes the following components: Shunra NV for HP Controller (page 1-1) Shunra NV for HP Load Generator (page 1-1) which also includes the Shunra NV Editor (page 1-2) Licensing for Shunra NV for HP Software Licensing is managed by the Shunra NV for HP Controller component, using a floating or a node-locked license. Shunra NV for HP Software installs with an unrestricted, 2-day license. 40 3-12 Shunra for HP Software Manual Chapter 3 Advanced Settings Network Scenario files contain network virtualization parameters including latency, bandwidth and packet loss. These files may originate in Shunra s NetworkCatcher and can be modified in the NV Editor, or created entirely in the NV Editor (refer to the Using the Shunra NV Editor, page 3-1). Once imported, the file automatically configures the required network virtualization parameters which, when played, are applied to all traffic entering and leaving the local NIC. An imported.ntxx file may contain multiple flows created on the WAN Cloud or Gateway shapes in Shunra s NV Editor. These flows can be selected individually to apply conditions for specific Location. Recording files of up to 900 latency and packet loss samples, and/or 900 bandwidth samples can be imported; the imported file is validated, so that files with an invalid number of samples are not saved. To import a Network Scenario File: 1 In the Shunra Network Virtualization window > Virtualization tab, select the Advanced radio button. Note: Excluded IP addresses are not retained in the imported file. For more information, see Configuring IP Filters on page 3-3.

The following statistics are displayed: Average latency: Displays the average recorded time required for a packet of data to travel from the source designated point to the required destination, measured in milliseconds.

Conducting Network Virtualization in HP Software Chapter Packet loss: Lists the number of packets lost during the last second. Packet loss occurs when data packets fail to reach their destination. It can result from gateway overload, signal degradation, channel congestion and faulty hardware software. Average Throughput: Displays the average data traffic passing from and to the virtualized location, measured in kbps. Average Bandwidth Utilization: The average bandwidth utilized by a virtual user or a virtualized location from the maximal available bandwidth allocated for it during the last second, measured in percentages. Total Throughput: Displays the total data traffic passing from and to the virtualized location, measured in Kb. Viewing Analysis The HP LoadRunner Analysis also incorporates Shunra statistics. Utilizing Shunra NV Analytics Shunra Analytics conducts an analysis based on packet list data, then displays the resulting data in informative reports and optimization recommendations that provide insight into an application's operation. To conduct analysis, certain customizations of the test are required. Scenario Configuration Guidelines A Group used for transaction marking should consist of a single Vuser.

3-18 Shunra for HP Software Manual Chapter 3 Turn on Packet Capture in the Network Vitualization Global Settings and for the Virtual Location. A Group used for transaction marking should run alone on a HP Load Generator. To adapt the HP LoadRunner script: 1 In the beginning of the script, before "Action ()" add the following: //Shunra - send REST request SendRequest(char *requesttype, char *uri,char *request_json_base){ char *request_type; char *request_json; lr_save_string(lr_eval_string(uri), "URL_Param"); request_json = lr_eval_string(request_json_base); lr_save_string(request_json, "REQUEST_JSON_PARAM"); request_type=lr_eval_string(requesttype); lr_save_string(request_type,"req_type"); web_add_header("content-type", "application/ json"); web_reg_save_param("responce", "Notfound=warning", "LB=", "RB=", "Search=Body", "IgnoreRedirections=Yes", LAST); web_custom_request("request", "URL={URL_Param}", "Method={REQ_TYPE}", "TargetFrame=", "Resource=0", "Referer=", "Mode=", "Body={REQUEST_JSON_PARAM}", LAST); return 0; } //Shunra - start transaction manager session ConnectTM(){

Conducting Network Virtualization in HP Software Chapter //Shunra - mark stop transaction StopTransaction(char *TransactionDescription){ char *temp; char *temp2; char *request_json_base; char *URL = " transactionmanager/transaction"; lr_save_string(lr_eval_string(transactiondescription ),"TRANSACTION_Description"); request_json_base="{" "\"transactiondescription\":\"" "{TRANSACTION_Description}" "\"," "\"passed\":\"true\"," "{transactionidentifiers}" "," "{transactionmanagersessionidentifiers}"; SendRequest("PUT",URL, request_json_base); temp=lr_eval_string("{responce}"); temp2=temp+1; lr_save_string(temp2,"transactionstop"); return 0; } Action() { ConnectTM(); StartTransaction("first transaction name"); lr_start_transaction("first transaction name"); // first transaction lr_end_transaction("first transaction name",lr_auto); StopTransaction("first transaction name"); StartTransaction("second transaction name"); lr_start_transaction("second transaction name"); // second transaction lr_end_transaction("second transaction name",lr_auto); StopTransaction("second transaction name"); StartTransaction("third transaction name");

3-24 Shunra for HP Software Manual Chapter 3 lr_start_transaction("third transaction name"); // third transaction lr_end_transaction("third transaction name",lr_auto); StopTransaction("third transaction name"); return 0; DisconnectTM(); } Conducting Analysis with Shunra NV Analytics To utilize Shunra NV Analytics, first download the test results on the HP Load Generator, and then import them into Shunra NV Analytics which may be installed on a separate machine. To save the test results: 1 After the test has completed, on the Load Generator go to: \%ProgramData%\Shunra\Emulation\Runs or \%AppData%\Shunra\Emulation\Runs. 2 Locate the required test folder (to locate the required test, the 'Date modified' of the folder should be the HP LoadRunner Scenario start time). 3 If Shunra NV Analytics is not installed on the HP Load Generator, copy the.shunra file from the folder to the remote machine where Shunra NV Analytics is installed. 4 Open the.shunra file in Shunra NV Analytics.

Using the Shunra NV Editor Chapter Using the Shunra NV Editor 4: The Shunra NV Editor is used to create and edit network scenariofiles. Each network scenario file can contain multiple flows, in which each flow represents traffic between two locations orf different networks. The NV Editor is installed with the Shunra NV for HP LoadGenerator component. The NV Editor model is based upon a network in which the client and server are each adjacent to a gateway. For easy identification, the network file editor calls these gateways "Server Gateway" and "Client Gateway." Data flows between the Client Gateway and the Server Gateway through the WAN. These values can be: Imported from the Shunra Global Library Manually set in the various parameter tabs of the NV Editor (page 4-9) Imported from NetworkCatcher recordings Installing the NV Editor The Network Editor is installed as part of the Shunra NV for HP LoadGenerator installation, see Chapter 2 Installing, Configuring and Licensing Shunra NV for HP Software Components. For the integration with HP Software, the NV Editor can be installed on the HP LoadRunner or HP Performance Center components, or as standalone on any another computer.

4-2 Shunra for HP Software Manual Chapter 4 Opening the NV Editor To open the NV Editor: In a browser, type: NV for HP LoadGenerator host IP>:8182/shunra/networkeditor/ Creating Shunra Emulation Profiles A network scenario file emulates network conditions with parameters such as packet loss, latency and bandwidth limitation of the virtualized network. The network scenario file defines the network conditions between two endpoints. You can set a series of parameters that characterize the gateways and the WAN. For example, you can set values that represent network phenomena such as latency and packet loss, or hardware settings such as the size of the queues allowed on the gateway. The output of the NV Editor is stored in a.ntxx file. use by Shunra NV for HP LoadGenerator For HP LoadRunner users incorporating network virtualization, the network files need to be accessible by the HP LoadRunner Controller or HP Performance Center server.the appropriate file is sent to each load generator as part of load test initialization. Thus, the individual load generators do not need to be configured to access a shared directory of files. Note: The.ntxx files created by the NV Editor cannot be imported into Shunra PerformanceSuite. To create a Shunra Emulation Profile (.ntxx file): Note: Each file can contain multiple flows provided that the IPs do not overlap. 1 On the home page, select New. 2 Click Add new flow.

Using the Shunra NV Editor Chapter In the New Flow page, set the following parameters as described below: Setting Client and Server IP Ranges: (page 4-4) these settings are overriden by the HP Controller; these settings only apply when running tests directly on the Shunra NV for HP LoadGenerator Configuring Gateway Parameters: (page 4-6) the gateway and its parameters including bandwidth limitations, and packet overhead using configured data or imported values Configuring the WAN Shape: (page 4-9): set latency and packet loss parameters using imported data, or by configuring values 4 After selecting the required options, click Done. The Flow Summary displays all Flows. To edit a file click the pencil icon; to delete a file click the "x"; to delete all files select the table icon.

4-4 Shunra for HP Software Manual Chapter 4 5 Select Save to download the network profile to the browser's default download folder. Note: It is highly recommended to configure the browser to prompt the user to choose the folder at download time. 6 The file can be used to conduct a network virtualization. Setting Client and Server IP Ranges Network impairments can be limited to and from specified IP addresses (to "include" them) or to refrain from affecting traffic to certain addresses ("exclude" them). For example, in the configuration with HP Software, the IP address of the HP LoadRunner Controller is automatically excluded so that traffic between the HP Load Generators and the HP LoadRunner Controller is not tested. Network traffic that is not included in the emulation will not be impaired, and will not be included in monitoring reports. Included or excluded IP addresses are overriden by the HP Controller; these settings only apply when running tests directly on the Shunra NV for HP Load- Generator. Packet list capture is enabled by default. In Shunra NV for HP Software this setting is overriden.

Using the Shunra NV Editor Chapter To include or exclude IP addresses: 1 In the Client IP Ranges tab, click the "+" icon. 2 Enter the IP addresses to include or exclude. Enter a complete IP address, as subnets or IP ranges are not supported. You can use the duplicate option to assist when typing similar addresses, but duplicate IPs are not permitted. Note: Exclude the address of the machine on which the Network Editor is installed. 3 Set the IP range ("From IP" and "To IP"). 4 Select a Port and Protocol (optional) 5 Repeat steps 2-3 to add other excluded or included ranges as required; all the excluded ranges must be within the included range. Note: An IP address can be modified by selecting it and clicking the pencil icon; an IP address can be removed from the list by selecting it and clicking the "x" icon. The Server s Sync button includes the IP Range and excludes the flow's Client ranges to prevent ambiguous routes. To exclude specific IP Ranges in all running tests: 1 Ensure that no emulations are currently running. 2 Use the Web Services API or the CLI (refer to Shunra NV for HP Software Web Service API and Command Line Interface). 3 Restart the service: Shunra Watchdog

4-6 Shunra for HP Software Manual Chapter 4 Defining Packet List Settings The packet list is essential for Shunra NV Analytics, which use the packet list data to produce the analytics reports and recommendations. These settings are overriden by the HP Controller; these settings only apply when running tests directly on the Shunra NV for HP LoadGenerator. To enable Packet List capture: In the Packet List icon (located between the Client and Client Gateway), select Enable packet list capture, then click Close. Configuring Gateway Parameters Gateway parameters emulate the behavior of access gateways on real networks. For example, you can specify the bandwidth or queue limitation a specific gateway imposes on the network. Entering gateway parameters is optional., and the options are the same for both the Client and the Server gateways. The gateway element represents an actual gateway that can be separately configured for incoming and outgoing traffic. Click the Client and Server Gateway tabs to configure the parameter settings. Bandwidth Settings Queue Settings: (page 4-7) Bandwidth Settings Bandwidth values can be defined or imported from a recording file; upstream and downstream may each have different values. Note: The following instructions are valid for both the upstream and downstream settings. To define the bandwidth values: 1 Select Predefined, then choose a preset value (these settings corresponds to common bandwidth settings such as T1, etc.), OR Select Custom, then type a value to select a specific bandwidth (values between 2.4 and 10,000,000 Kbps).

Using the Shunra NV Editor Chapter Click Done. Importing Bandwidth Settings Bandwidth recordings of up to 900 samples can be imported; the imported file is validated, so that incorrect values are not saved. To import recorded bandwidth parameters: 1 In the Client and/or Server Gateway tab, select Recorded then click Choose file. 2 In the Browse window, select the relevant file. Files which do not contain valid bandwidth parameters are not imported. Queue Settings The Queue Settings define the queue limitations and packet overhead.
