7 About This Guide About This Guide Introduction To set up the GQIv3 QAM operation, there are certain steps that you need to complete on the Explorer Controller (EC) and the RF Gateway-1 (RFGW-1). This document describes those steps and refers you to the necessary documentation to avoid any issues. The information in this document applies to EC system release (SR) 6.0 and RFGW Version Audience This document was written for headend technicians. Field service engineers and Cisco Services engineers may also find the information in this document helpful. Document Version This is the first formal release of this document. OL v

9 1 Chapter 1 Set Up GQI-Based QAMs on the EC Introduction This chapter provides procedures for setting up GQI-based QAMs on the EC. For more information on setting up the EC, see the online help. Important: To set up GQI-based QAMs on the EC, you must have the GQI QAM feature enabled. To verify whether it is enabled, click EC on the EC main page. Look to see if you have GQI Based QAM and GQI Based QAM Models listed under Network Element Provisioning. If you see these options listed, you are ready to proceed. 10 Chapter 1 Set Up GQI-Based QAMs on the EC GQI-Based QAM Models Using the GQI Based QAM Model List page to add a GQI-based QAM model to the EC is the first step in adding GQI-based QAM modulators to the EC. Note: The EC refers to table-based modulators, such as our extra Dense QAM array (XDQA) and table-based QAM modulators of other manufacturers, as GQI-based QAM modulators. When you add a GQI-based QAM model to the EC, you define specifications that are unique to a particular model of QAM modulator. After a GQI-based QAM model has been added on this page, you can use the model to add an individual GQI-based QAM modulator to the EC; the individual modulator will be added with the specifications of the model you used. After a GQI-based QAM modulator model has been added on this page, you can modify or delete a model as the needs of your site change. To add a GQI-based QAM model to the EC, you need the following information about the model: ¾ Model number ¾ Maximum number of GbE ports ¾ Starting number of the GbE ports ¾ Internet Protocol (IP) version that the model supports ¾ Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) version that the model supports ¾ Maximum number of multicast sources the model supports ¾ Whether or not the model supports a dynamic range of UDP ports ¾ Whether or not the model supports packet identifier (PID) remapping ¾ Maximum number of RF ports ¾ Maximum number of carriers per RF port ¾ Starting number of RF ports ¾ Encryption types supported ¾ Encryption algorithms supported ¾ Modulation formats supported ¾ Whether the following settings are configurable: - Output power level - Frequency per carrier - Control word (CW) mode 2 OL

GQI-Based QAM Model Settings Use the following fields when you manage GQI-based QAM models in the EC. Field QAM Platform Model Description Model Name The name of this GQI-based QAM model. Note: This field must start with a letter. Valid values for this field are: A to Z a to z 0 to 9 (except for the first position) _ (underscore) and - (dash) You can use up to 32 characters in this field. Number of GbE Ports GbE Port Start Number Control IP Address Compatibility Multicast Support Number of Multicast Sources Dynamic UDP Range PID Remapping The maximum number of GbE ports provided on this GQI-based QAM model. Valid range: From 1 to The beginning GbE port number for the model. Select the Internet Protocol (IP) version this model supports: IPv4 IPv6 Select the following Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) versions that this model supports: IGMPv3 IGMPv2 IGMPv1 The maximum number of multicast sources the that model supports. Note: RFGW1 and edge devices typically support three fail-over sources. Determines whether the model supports a dynamic range of UDP ports (Yes or No). Enter the maximum number of outstanding requests allowed to external session and resource managers (including GSRM and SDV sessions). Valid range: From 1 to 64. Note: The EC is considered an external SRM. We typically recommend a value of 2 for this field. Select this option to insert packets into the stream. RF Carrier Model Modulation Format The modulation formats that the model supports: Output Power Level Frequency Per Carrier QAM 64 QAM 128 QAM 256 QAM 1024 Determines whether the model allows the output power level to be configurable (Yes or No). Determines whether the model allows each RF carrier to be configurable (Yes or No). 4 OL

Determines whether the model allows the output squelch to be configurable (Yes or No). Determines whether the model allows the interleave depth to be configurable (Yes or No). Add a GQI-Based Model If you are using a GQI-based QAM modulator to send content to set-tops, first add the GQI-based QAM model on which the modulator is based to the EC. 1 Choose EC > Network Element Provisioning and click GQI Based QAM Models. The GQI Based QAM Model List page is displayed. 2 Click Add. The Add GQI Based QAM Model page is displayed. 3 Complete the fields as described in GQI-Based QAM Model Settings (on page 3). 4 Click Save. The system begins saving the data to the database and, when finished, displays Done in the status bar at the bottom of the page. OL

14 Chapter 1 Set Up GQI-Based QAMs on the EC GQI-Based QAMs On the GQI Based QAM List page, you can add QAMs from other manufacturers to the EC. The EC refers to these QAMs as GQI-based QAMs. After GQI-based QAMs are listed on this page, you can modify or delete the GQIbased QAMs as the needs of your site change. On this page, you can also set up multicast sessions on any GQI-based QAM listed on the page. After you have added a GQI-based QAM to this page, you can manage the GQIbased QAM in the same ways that you manage your QAMs. For example, you can use the Set Up Digital Source Definition utility to set up broadcast sessions on the modulator and then view the sessions on the Session List page (along with any multicast sessions that you have set up on other GQI-based QAM modulators). You can also add GQI-based QAMs to VOD Service groups by selecting the ports on a GQI-based QAM modulator from the Available Ports list on the Add Service Group or Edit Service Group page. Important: Before you can add a GQI-based QAM to this page, the modulator model must first be defined on the GQI Based QAM Model List page. For more information, see GQI-Based QAM Models (on page 2). GQI-Based QAM Settings Use the GQI Based QAM List page to manage the GQI-based QAM devices in your network. Several tabs on this page provide settings for the GQI-based QAM. Basic Parameter Settings Use the following fields when you manage the basic parameters for a GQI-based QAM. Field Headend Name Model Type Description Select the headend associated with this GQI-based QAM. Select the GQI-based QAM model upon which this modulator is based. 6 OL

15 GQI-Based QAMs Qam Name The name of this GQI-based QAM. Note: Valid values for this field are: A to Z a to z 0 to 9 _ (underscore), - (dash), and space You can use up to 20 characters in this field. We recommend that you establish a naming scheme that allows you to easily identify the modulator and where it resides. Example: A name of VODhub1Q43 could represent a QAM modulator whose IP address ends in 43 that process VOD data for hub 1. IP Address The IP address of this GQI-based QAM. Be careful to properly place the dots (.) between numbers. MAC Address Subnet Mask The MAC address for this GQI-based QAM. The subnet mask where this GQI-based QAM resides. Note: If your system uses a standard network configuration, type , otherwise type the subnet mask as assigned by your system administrator. Default Gateway If your system uses a default gateway, the IP address of your default gateway. Notes: Using a default gateway router speeds up the reconnection process that occurs after a device is rebooted. The Application Server does not provision the network parameters on a GQI QAM. This field is purely informational. Administrative State Pid Mapping BFS Capable Defines whether or not this modulator is enabled or not. Online - The modulator is enabled. Offline - The modulator is disabled. Assigned to an external SRM - The modulator can process the carousels from external SRMs (including GSRM and SDV sessions). The type of PID mapping used by the GQI-based QAM (Dynamic or Static). Select this option to give this GQI-based QAM modulator the ability to send BFS data. Note: This field only displays if the related GQI-based model type is set to Cisco. OL

16 Chapter 1 Set Up GQI-Based QAMs on the EC GbE Input Port Settings Use the following fields when you manage the GbE input ports for a GQI-based QAM. Field IP Address MAC Address Subnet Mask Gateway IP Bandwidth Enabled Description The IP address of the modulator's GbE input port. The MAC address of the modulator's GbE input port. The subnet mask of the modulator's GbE input port. The gateway IP address of the modulator's GbE input port. Enter the bandwidth of the port. Valid range: From 0 to 10,000,000 kbps. Select this option to enable the port. RF Carrier Settings Use the following fields when you manage the RF carriers for a GQI-based QAM. Field Transport Stream ID Modulation Frequency Continuous Wave Mode Description A unique number to identify the transport stream going from this GQIbased QAM out to the hubs in your system. Important: If you are setting up GQI QAM services, then this value needs to match the transport stream ID that you define on the RF Gateway 1. See the online help for more information. Valid range: From 1 to 65,535. Select the type of modulation this GQI-based QAM uses. The frequency of the channel you will use to send data from this GQIbased QAM to the hubs in your system. Important: If you are setting up GQI QAM services, then this value needs to match the frequency that you define on the RF Gateway 1. See the online help for more information. Valid range: From 48 to 981. Determines whether the GQI-based QAM produces an unmodulated RF carrier. Select this option to produce an unmodulated RF carrier. Note: This is useful when testing. 8 OL

17 GQI-Based QAMs Disabled Determines whether you can set up additional sessions on an RF output port on the GQI-based QAM. Notes: Select this option to prevent the EC from setting up any additional sessions on this RF carrier. (Existing sessions are not affected and continue to function as expected.) Interleaver Depth Application Support This may be helpful when performing plant maintenance or, in the rare event, when a port fails. Select the depth of interleaving for the GQI-based QAM. Available only if you are using Overlay technology. Select the type of application this GQI-based QAM will support: Shared VOD only SDV only (choose this for a session-based application) Broadcast only Port To Hubs Tab Use the following fields when you manage the ports to hub for a GQI-based QAM modulator. The Port To Hubs tab allows you to see the hubs available to this GQIbased QAM. Field Ports Available Hubs Selected Hubs Description Select the output port you are defining, if more than one are available. Lists the hubs that are available to receive program/service data from this GQI-based QAM modulator. Select a hub: Click the hub and click Add to move the hub to the Selected Hubs list. Lists the hubs that receive program/service data from this GQI-based QAM modulator. Important: If this modulator is sending data to all hubs in the headend, verify that no hubs appear in the Selected Hubs field. Remove a hub from this list: Select the hub and click Remove. Multicast Digital Session Settings Use the following fields when you manage the multicast sessions for a GQI based QAM. Field Source ID Description Select the source that the session will use. OL

18 Chapter 1 Set Up GQI-Based QAMs on the EC Field Session ID Bandwidth (Mbps) Description Left Session ID field. Enter 12 zeros (00:00:00:00:00:00). Right Session ID field. The Source ID you used when you added the source to the EC. Valid range: From 0 to The maximum amount of bandwidth (in Mbps) that the system should allow for this device. This value is usually defined by your content service provider. Requirements vary from system to system, but in general, you can use the following guidelines: Standard MPEG video streams use 2 or 3 Mbps. HDTV streams use 13 Mbps. Audio streams use 0.2 Mbps. Modulators using 64-QAM support a total bandwidth of Mbps for each QAM carrier. Modulators using 256-QAM support a total bandwidth of Mbps for each QAM carrier. Ethernet Port Output Carrier Program Number Source IP Address 1 Source IP Address 2 Source IP Address 3 Input Destination Multicast IP Address UDP Port For each QAM carrier, allocate 1% overhead for PSI and ECM insertions. Valid range: From 0 to 38.8 Mbps. Select the Ethernet port this session will use. Select the output destination of the source. The MPEG program number being fed into the transport stream. This number must match the program number of the MPEG source as defined by your content provider. Valid range: From 0 to The IP address of the first device. The IP address of the second device (if used). The IP address of the third device (if used). The multicast IP address on the modulator where sources are input. The port number on the modulator where the sources are input. Valid range: From 0 to OL

19 GQI-Based QAMs Add a GQI-Based QAM This section describes how to add a GQI-based QAM modulator to the EC so that sessions can be set up on the modulator. Important: Unlike our QAMs, GQI-based QAMs do not support EC-supplied provisioning. As a result, specifications saved to the EC when the GQI-based QAM is added (or provisioned) in the EC are not provided to the GQI-based QAM when the modulator reboots. Instead, the GQI-based QAM must be provisioned separately, as indicated in the manufacturer's documentation. Typically the GQIbased QAM is provisioned through a craft port. You need the following information to add a GQI-based QAM to the EC. Note: Unless noted otherwise, consult the manufacturer of the modulator to obtain this information. ¾ Name of the headend containing the GQI-based QAM ¾ The model type on which the GQI-based QAM is based ¾ Name used to identify the GQI-based QAM ¾ IP address of the control port on the GQI-based QAM ¾ MAC address of the control port ¾ Subnet mask for the control port (from your system administrator) ¾ If applicable, the default gateway that the GQI-based QAM uses (from your system administrator) ¾ Type of packet identifier (PID) mapping (With dynamic PID mapping the modulator automatically maps PIDs that pass through the modulator. With static PID mapping, administrators or operators manually map PIDs that pass through the modulator.) To add a GQI-based QAM to the EC, complete the following tasks. Important: Adding a GQI-based QAM to the EC is required to set up and manage sessions on the GQI-based QAM, and it is not required to support EC-supplied provisioning of the GQI-based QAM. 1 If you have not already done so, add a GQI-based QAM model appropriate to the modulator to the EC. For assistance, see the online help. 2 Define the basic parameters. 3 Define parameters for the GbE input ports. 4 Define parameters for the RF carriers. 5 Activate the GQI-based QAM. OL

20 Chapter 1 Set Up GQI-Based QAMs on the EC Define GQI-Based QAM Basic Parameters 1 Choose EC > Network Element Provisioning and click GQI Based QAM. The GQI Based QAM List page is displayed. Note: If you do not see GQI options listed under Network Element Provisioning, you must contact Cisco Services to have this feature enabled. 2 Click Add. The Add GQI Based QAM page is displayed with Basic Parameters settings shown. 3 Complete the fields as described in Basic Parameter Settings (on page 6). Important: Do not set the Administrative State setting at this time. 4 Click Save. The system begins saving the data to the database and, when finished, displays Done in the status bar at the bottom of the page. 5 Go to Define GQI-Based QAM GbE Input Ports (on page 12). Define GQI-Based QAM GbE Input Ports 1 On the Add GQI Based QAM page, click GbE Input Ports. The GbE Input Ports page is displayed. 2 Complete the fields as described in GbE Input Port Settings (on page 8). 3 Click Save. The system begins saving the data to the database and, when finished, displays Done in the status bar at the bottom of the page. What's Next? Go to Define GQI-Based QAM RF Carriers (on page 12). Define GQI-Based QAM RF Carriers 1 On the Add GQI Based QAM page, click RF Carriers. The RF Carriers page is displayed. 2 Complete the fields as described in RF Carrier Settings (on page 8). 3 Click Save. The system begins saving the data to the database and, when finished, displays Done in the status bar at the bottom of the page. 4 On the RF Carriers page, click Assign Port To Hubs. The Port to Hub page is displayed. 5 Complete the fields as described in Port To Hubs Tab (on page 9). 6 Click Save. The system begins saving the data to the database and, when finished, displays Done in the status bar at the bottom of the page. 7 Have you provisioned the GQI-based QAM? If yes, go to Activating the GQI-Based QAM (on page 13). If no, provision the GQI-based QAM modulator. When you have provisioned the modulator, go to Activating the GQI-Based QAM (on page 13). Note: For information on provisioning the GQI-based QAM, see the documentation provided by the manufacturer of the GQI-based QAM. 12 OL

21 GQI-Based QAMs Activating the GQI-Based QAM 1 Choose EC > Network Element Provisioning and click GQI Based QAM. The GQI Based QAM List page is displayed. 2 Select the GQI-based QAM you want to activate. 3 Click Edit. The Edit GQI Based QAM page is displayed with Basic Parameters settings shown. 4 For the Administrative State, click Online. 5 Click Save to change the status of the GQI-based QAM to online and activate the modulator. When the modulator has been activated, Done is displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the page. 6 Add the new GQI-based QAM to your network map. Set Up a Multicast Session on a GQI-Based QAM You need the following information to set up a multicast session on a GQI-based QAM. Note: To obtain this information, consult your network map or your system administrator, unless noted otherwise in the following list. ¾ Source ID as you defined it when you added the content source to the EC ¾ Amount of bandwidth (in Mbps) to allow for the service (from your content service provider) ¾ Name of the output distribution equipment that will receive the content from the source (see your network map) ¾ MPEG program number (from your content service provider) ¾ IP addresses of source devices (up to 3 different source devices can be used) ¾ Input destination multicast ID address on the GQI-based QAM modulator ¾ Destination UDP port on the GQI-based QAM modulator Multicast Digital Session Settings Use the following fields when you manage the multicast sessions for a GQI-based QAM. Field Source ID Session ID Description Select the source that the session will use. Left Session ID field. Enter 12 zeros (00:00:00:00:00:00). OL

Valid range: From 0 to The maximum amount of bandwidth (in Mbps) that the system should allow for this device. This value is usually defined by your content service provider. Requirements vary from system to system, but in general, you can use the following guidelines: Standard MPEG video streams use 2 or 3 Mbps. HDTV streams use 13 Mbps. Audio streams use 0.2 Mbps. Modulators using 64-QAM support a total bandwidth of Mbps for each QAM carrier. Modulators using 256-QAM support a total bandwidth of Mbps for each QAM carrier. Ethernet Port Output Carrier Program Number Source IP Address 1 Source IP Address 2 Source IP Address 3 Input Destination Multicast IP Address UDP Port For each QAM carrier, allocate 1% overhead for PSI and ECM insertions. Valid range: From 0 to 38.8 Mbps. Select the Ethernet port this session will use. Select the output destination of the source. The MPEG program number being fed into the transport stream. 23 2 Select the GQI-based QAM where you want to set up a multicast session. GQI-Based QAMs 3 Click Edit. The Edit GQI Based QAM page is displayed for the modulator that you selected. 4 Click Multicast Sessions. The Multicast Digital Session Definition page is displayed. If no sessions have been set up on this modulator, the page is empty. Otherwise, sessions the modulator carries are listed on this page. 5 Click Add. The Multicast Digital Session Definition page is displayed. 6 Complete the fields as described in Multicast Digital Session Settings (on page 13). 7 Click Save. The system saves the multicast session in the EC database and starts the session that you built for it. The Multicast Digital Session Definition page updates to include the new session information. Note: After a session has been set up, you can manage it on the Session List page. For more information, see the online help. Set Up a Broadcast Session on a GQI-Based QAM Broadcast sessions are typically created when setting up services for subscribers. See the online help to set up a broadcast session that can be used to provide one of the following services: ¾ Clear Services Services that are delivered to subscribers unscrambled or unencrypted; for example, programming available through the three major networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) is usually clear ¾ Secure Services Services that are encrypted or scrambled so that they are protected from being accessed (stolen) by people who have not paid for the service; usually offered at a price that is in addition to the price for clear services (for example, HBO, Showtime, and music channels) ¾ Pay-Per-View (PPV) Services Services that carry PPV events that subscribers can choose to purchase in addition to their normal cable programming; has some of the same characteristics as both clear and secure services OL

24 Chapter 1 Set Up GQI-Based QAMs on the EC Content Sources and Sessions This section discusses defining sources and setting up sessions. In the provider network, a source is the actual program or data that is made available to the set-top as a service to the subscriber. Sources can include any of the following: ¾ MPEG digital broadcast services that are non-secure, non-encrypted, audio/video programs ¾ Internet connections from an Internet service provider (ISP) ¾ Digital PPVs that are secure, encrypted, digital MPEG programs ¾ Digital music services ¾ Analog programs that are modulated in the traditional format or converted into MPEG format. Sessions are the logical elements that define and allocate the resources that the network uses to deliver source content. Source List Filter From the Filter area on the Source List page, you can quickly retrieve information about the sources in your system. Source List Filter Settings The following table describes the Filter options for searching sources. By Field By Value Examples Source ID Enter the source ID in the By Value field to have the filter display source data for the ID you entered. If you enter 328 in the By Value field, the Filter finds and displays sources whose IDs contain the number 338. Source Name Enter any part of a source name in the By Value field to have the filter display sources whose names match any portion of the text entered in this field. Important: This field accepts letters and numbers. If you enter So in the By Value field, the Filter finds and displays sources with any of the following names: AllSource LaGrange Source Source OL

25 Source Type All Select one of the following source types from the list: 2D 3D SD HD MPEG2 MPEG4 Displays all sources. Content Sources and Sessions If you select 2D, the Filter displays all sources marked as 2D sources. Using the Source List Filter to Display Data Follow these instructions to display service group data. Note: For a description of these options and examples of how the data entered affects the search, see Source List Filter Settings (on page 16). 1 Click the By Field arrow and select one of the following options: Source ID Source Name Source Type All 2 Click in the By Value field and enter data or select an option in this field. 3 Click Show. The Filter searches the database for the parameters you selected and displays any matches on the Source Data page. Source Data When you use the Filter to search for and display sources, search results are shown on the Source Data page, which lists the following information: Field Source Name Source ID Description Shows the name of the source. Shows the unique numerical identifier for the source. This field accepts up to 10 digits. OL

Multicast Through GQI-Based QAM Settings Use the following fields when you manage multicast digital sessions through GQIbased QAMs in the Application Server. Field Source ID Session ID Bandwidth (Mbps) QAM Name Ethernet Port Output Carrier Description Select the session ID this multicast will use. Displays the source ID of the session you are editing. The maximum amount of bandwidth (in Mbps) that the system should allow for this session. Valid range: From 0 to 38.8 Mbps. Select the GQI-based QAM you are using for this multicast session. Select the Ethernet port of the QAM you selected. Select the output carrier of the QAM. Program Number The MPEG program number of the input. Valid range: From 0 to Source IP Address 1 Source IP Address 2 Source IP Address 3 The IP address of the device sending content to the GQI-based QAM. The IP address of the second device sending content to the GQI-based QAM (if used). The IP address of the third device sending content to the GQI-based QAM (if used). 18 OL

Field Source ID Session ID QAM Name Output Carrier Ethernet Port UDP Port Description Select the session ID of the session that you are editing. Displays the source ID of the session that you are editing. Select the QAM that you are using for this IP unicast session. Select the output carrier of the QAM that you selected. Select the Ethernet port of the QAM. Enter the UDP port of the QAM. Valid range: From 0 to Program Number The MPEG program number of the input. Bandwidth (Mbps) Valid range: From 0 to The maximum amount of bandwidth (in Mbps) that the system should allow for this session. Valid range: From 0 to 37.8 Mbps. Add a Content Source Note: This procedure applies to clear, secure, and PPV services. It does not apply to VOD services. The first step in setting up a clear, secure, or PPV service is to add information to the EC database about the original content source. After the source has been added to the EC, you can use this source to create different services. For example, you can use the signal from Fox Sports World (FOXSW) to create different services from a single FOXSW signal: ¾ You could offer the FOXSW broadcast as a clear service to all subscribers. ¾ By encrypting the FOXSW broadcast, you could offer it as a secure, subscriptionbased service only to subscribers who have paid extra for it. ¾ By encrypting it and setting it up as a PPV service, you could offer a portion of it, maybe a special sporting event, only to subscribers who have paid for the event. 28 Chapter 1 Set Up GQI-Based QAMs on the EC Before adding a content source to the EC, make sure that you have first set up all of your network elements. Adding a content source takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. Adding a content source does not impact network performance. You can complete this procedure at any time. 1 Choose EC > System Provisioning > Service Provisioning and click Source. The Source List opens. 2 Click Add. The New Source page is displayed. 3 Complete the fields on the page. 4 Click Save. The system saves the source information in the EC database and closes the New Source page. The Source List updates to include the new source. 5 You are ready to define the source that you just added. Go to Define a Content Source (on page 20). Define a Content Source After you add a content source to the Application Server database for a clear, secure, or PPV service, define parameters for the source so that the system knows how to process the service content. To define a source for a GQIv3 QAM, you must choose either Multicast Through GQI Based QAM or IP-Unicast QAM Session. Important: ¾ These procedures do not apply to VOD services. ¾ If you are sending the same source through more than one QAM, MQAM, or GQAM modulator, you must define a source definition for each modulator. For example, if you are sending the same content source through six QAM modulators, you must define the source six times once for each modulator. Define a Multicast Through GQI-Based QAM Session 1 Choose EC > System Provisioning > Service Provisioning and click Source. The Source List opens. 2 Configure the Filter to show the source that you need to update. 3 Click Show. The Source List updates to show the filter results. 4 Select the source that you need to update. 5 Click Source Definition. The Source Definition List opens for the source you selected. 6 Are you using an existing digital source definition for this session? If yes, select the digital source definition that you want to use for this session. Go to Step 8. If no, click Add. The Set Up Definition page is displayed. 20 OL

The Multicast Digital Session Definition page is displayed. 9 Complete the fields as described in Multicast Digital Session Settings (on page 9). 10 Click Save. Define an IP-Unicast QAM Session 1 Choose EC > System Provisioning > Service Provisioning and click Source. The Source List opens. 2 Configure the Filter to show the source that you need to update. 3 Click Show. The Source List updates to show the filter results. 4 Select the source that you need to update. 5 Click Source Definition. The Source Definition List opens for the source that you selected. 6 Are you using an existing digital source definition for this session? If yes, select the digital source definition you want to use for this session. Go to Step 8. If no, click Add. The Set Up Definition is displayed. 7 Complete the fields on the page. 8 Click IP-Unicast QAM Session. The IP Unicast Session Definition page is displayed. 9 Complete the fields as described in IP-Unicast QAM Session Settings (on page 19). 10 Click Save. OL

32 Chapter 2 RF Gateway 1 Configuration Quick Start Configuring the IP Address Through the Front Panel The RF Gateway 1 management port IP address can be configured using the LCD and keypad located on the chassis front panel. To Configure the Management Port IP Address 1 After the system fully initializes, use the keypad to page down until you see the mgmt port IP address. Note: Use the up/down, left/right buttons for navigation and changes. Use the center button for saving changes. 2 Page down to position the cursor in the IP address field. Use the left/right keys to navigate the cursor below the numbers you want to change. Use the up/down keys to make changes. Continue until all numbers are configured as desired. 3 Use the center key to accept changes and exit the mgmt port IP address field. 4 Page right to find and configure the management port subnet mask and default gateway. Configure each as desired. 5 Once finished, use the center key to enter and save information. 6 Reboot the RF Gateway 1. The management port IP address is not dynamically configurable, thus reboot/power-cycle is required after changes. 7 The management port IP address can be validated by checking the configuration settings on the LCD after reboot. Note: Alternatively, the operator can attempt to connect to the web GUI at the new IP address via HTTP after reboot. 24 OL

33 Connecting the RF Gateway 1 Using a Web Browser Connecting the RF Gateway 1 Using a Web Browser The RF Gateway 1 can be connected to a web browser. The following browsers/display settings are recommended: Client Platform Web Browser Display Settings Windows XP Mozilla Firefox x768 Internet Explorer 6.0 Note: Java platform Version 1.6.0_x is supported under the recommended browsers. To Connect the RF Gateway 1 1 Connect a network cable to the management port located on the rear panel of the RF Gateway 1 chassis. 2 Open a web browser and enter the management port IP address. Result: The RF Gateway 1 Summary page is displayed. OL

34 Chapter 2 RF Gateway 1 Configuration Quick Start Changing Device Settings The general configuration settings of the RF Gateway 1 are categorized on the Device Information page. This section provides information on changing the device settings. Note: Once a setting is entered and you click Apply, they become active. The settings must be saved to preserve them in nonvolatile memory. Software Version has an automatic save feature which allows applied database changes to be automatically saved to preserve them in nonvolatile memory. Saved settings will be retained after a reboot or power cycle. This rule applies across all RF Gateway 1 settings. Configuring the Device Name To identify the RF Gateway 1, we recommend that a unique device name be assigned to the unit. To Configure the Device Name 1 Navigate to the System/System Configuration page. 26 OL

35 Changing Device Settings Result: The Device Information page is displayed. 2 In the Device Name field, enter the device name (up to 16 characters supported). 3 Click Apply. 4 Click Save. Configuring the Annex The annex setting applies to all carriers in the RF Gateway 1, including ITU-A (DVB), ITU-B (open cable), or ITU-C (Japan applications). Mixed annex settings are not supported. To Configure the Annex 1 Navigate to the System/System Configuration page. OL

Note: Changing annex settings will clear the database to defaults. 2 From the QAM Encoding Type drop-down list, choose the annex setting. 3 Click Apply. 4 Click Save. 5 Reboot the device. Reboot/power-cycle is required after changes to the annex setting. Configuring the Clock The internal clock of the RF Gateway 1 can be set manually or can be synchronized with a Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) time server. To Change the Internal Clock 1 Navigate to the System/Clock page. 28 OL

Using the System/IP Network page, the user can configure the following. ¾ Management port IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway ¾ Conditional Access (CA) port, subnet mask, default gateway ¾ GbE input port settings, including IP addresses and subnet mask ¾ Redundancy mode and configuration Configuring Management Port (10/100) IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway To Configure the Management Port (10/100) IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway 1 Navigate to the System/IP Network page. To Configure the Conditional Access (CA) Port IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway 1 If you are creating a session-based setup, click the QAMS tab and be sure that App Mode is set to SDV. 2 Navigate to the System/IP Network page. Note: The CA port is only used for scrambling when the EIS and or ECMG equipment is on a separate network. 3 Set the Port Control to On. The default setting is Off. 4 In the appropriate field, change the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway settings. 5 Click Apply. 6 Click Save. 7 Reboot the device. Note: The CA port IP address is not dynamically configurable, thus reboot/power-cycle is required after changes. To Configure the Virtual IP Address for each GbE Port Pair for Port Pair Mode 1 Navigate to the System/IP Network page. 32 OL

43 Network Connectivity Testing Network Connectivity Testing Each of the four physical GbE input ports will respond to PING. Because the GbE input ports are not configurable for default gateway, a static route to the source network of the PING must be added to the GbE port to facilitate PING responses over layer 3 networks. Static routes can be added via the GUI, using the System/ARP & Routes page. Configuring Static Routes To Configure Static Routes 1 Navigate to the System/ARP & Routes page. Result: The ARP & Routes page is displayed. 2 From the Route Table drop-down box, choose the desired GbE input. 3 In the Static Route Entry area, enter the IP Address and Subnet Mask for the network or host. 4 Click Add to add the static route. 5 Click Save. Using the QAM web page and its submenus, the operator can verify and configure: ¾ QAM card presence ¾ QAM output control (that is, mute vs. unmute) ¾ Carrier parameters (that is, frequency, spacing, and modulation) ¾ Channel Application Mode (that is, video vs. data) 36 OL

45 Configuring QAM Output Card Presence The RF Gateway 1 chassis can be populated with up to six QAM line cards. To Verify QAM Card 1 Navigate to the QAMS page. 2 In the QAM Configuration pane, select the desired QAM card. Result: The web view indicates the status of the QAM card. Enabling QAM Port The RF Gateway 1 QAM line cards have two ports, with four RF output carriers per port. Outputs are enabled/disabled from the port level as well as from the individual carrier level. A global setting for a port must first be enabled, then individual carriers within the port can be independently muted or unmuted as desired. To Enable QAM Port 1 Navigate to the QAMS page. 2 In the QAM Configuration pane, select the desired Card/RF Port. Result: The RF Port Configuration page is displayed. 3 From the Port Control drop-down list, choose On. 4 Click Apply. 5 Click Save. OL

Carrier Parameters Various settings are configurable for the RF Gateway 1 output carriers. Some settings are configurable on an individual carrier basis, other settings are limited to a particular RF port (group of four carriers). To Configure Port Output Parameters 1 Navigate to the QAMS page. 2 In the QAM Configuration pane, select the desired RF Port. 38 OL

47 Configuring QAM Output Result: The RF Port Configuration page is displayed. 3 From the Modulation drop-down list, choose the desired modulation (64 vs. 256 QAM). 4 In the Channel Output Level (dbmv) field, enter the output level. 5 From the Combined Channels drop-down list, choose the number of active carriers per port (that is, for four carriers per port, set Combined Channels to quad). 6 In the Channel Number field, select the channel frequencies. Note: Combined Channels are limited to be spaced contiguously (separated by the chosen channel spacing) from the frequency of the lowest carrier. Therefore, only the frequency of the first carrier of a port may be configured. Important: If you are setting up GQI QAM services, then this value needs to match the frequency that you define on the EC. See RF Carrier Settings (on page 8). 7 Click Apply. 8 Click Save. OL

Important: If you are setting up GQI QAM services, then this value needs to match the transport stream ID that you define on the EC. See RF Carrier Settings (on page 8). 4 From the Channel Spectrum Inversion drop-down list, choose the parameter to Normal (for most applications). Note: The following table compares the RF Gateway 1 to an xdqa-24 with respect to Channel Spectrum Inversion and its interpretation.
