2 Receiving and Unpacking Carefully unpack all components and compare to packing list. Notify HydroLynx Systems immediately with any discrepancy. Inspect for damage that may have occurred during shipment. In the event of damage, claims for loss must be filed immediately with carrier by the consignee. This does not apply to shipments via Parcel Post or UPS, in which case you should contact HydroLynx Systems for instructions. Returns If you need to return unit to the factory for any reason call HydroLynx Systems between 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Pacific Time and request a Return Authorization Number (RA#). Carefully pack the unit so that it will not be damaged in shipment. Write the RA# on the outside of the box. Include with the unit a description of the problem. Warranty HydroLynx Systems warrants that its products are free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of one year from the date of shipment from the factory. HydroLynx Systems' obligations under this warranty are limited to, at HydroLynx Systems' option: (i) replacing; or (ii) repairing; any product determined to be defective. In no case shall HydroLynx Systems' liability exceed product's original purchase price. This warranty does not apply to any equipment that has been repaired or altered, except by HydroLynx Systems, or which has been subjected to misuse, negligence, or accident. Remlynx Software Description RemLynx (version 1.20) is a terminal emulator software (communication program) running on Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000 or XP that is designed to connect to HydroLynx Systems NovaStar 4 and 4X Data Collection Systems. While other Microsoft Windows communication programs can display text that comes from host systems, RemLynx can display text and graphics. Graphics displayed by RemLynx must be in the GT format (Novastar Systems' graphics format). Other features that RemLynx has are: 1. TCP/IP (telnet) and Modem (serial) connections. 2. VT100 and selective features of VT200/300 emulations. 3. TEK4010 emulation and Gterm (specific to Novastar System) graphical support. 4. File transfer protocols (Kermit, XMODEM, ZMODEM, B-PLUS and Quick-VAN). 2. Software and Hardware Requirements 2.1 Minimum software requirements for RemLynx 1. Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000 or XP operating systems. 2. Novastar host computer software with RemLynx terminal type capability. 2.2 Minimum hardware requirements for RemLynx 1. IBM compatible computer. 2. Minimum of 512KB RAM and at least 2MB of hard disk space. 3. CD-ROM and hard disk drives for installation and operation. 4. Modem (dialup networking) or local area networks (TCP/IP connection). 5. VGA or SVGA compatible graphics adapter and monitor. 3. Remlynx Software Installation To install the RemLynx software on your computer's hard disk, insert the installation CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive. If the Auto run feature does not automatically start the installation program, explore the CD drive and run SETUP.EXE. The RemLynx software will be copied to a hard disk directory that you have given during the installation. For the proper operation of the RemLynx program, you must reboot your system after the installation completes and before starting the RemLynx program. DCN-M RemLynx Page 1 of 4

How to Make the Connection to a Host with Modem or Tcp/ip To use RemLynx, you first must determine your connection type and create a phone directory entry for the host that you desire to connect to. In general, there are two major ways to connect to a host, (1) by direct modem dial-up or (2) by a network either connected directly or by a dialup line. The connection types mentioned above are referred to as Modem and TCP/IP respectively. 4.1 To make a connection with Modem To create a Modem (Serial) connection to a host, there are two options you should consider in the phone directory dialog box. These options are 'Connection type' and 'Serial port number'. When you specify the number of serial port, it must be the one to which your modem is attached. If you are not sure which serial port your modem is currently using, please refer to the Modem applet in the system control panel. Take the following steps to make a modem connection. 1. Enter the descriptive host name in the 'Host Name' field. 2. Enter the phone number for the host in the 'Phone Number' field. 3. Make sure that 'Modem' in the connection type is checked and specify serial port number that your modem is currently using. 4. Click 'Add' to add the entry to the phone directory list. 5. To make a connection, first select the host entry in the phone directory list and click 'Connect' or simply double-click on the host entry. 4.2 To make a connection with TCP/IP To create a TCP/IP connection to a host, there are two options you should consider in the phone directory dialog box. These options are 'Connection type' and 'Telnet' (network protocol).when you make a connection with TCP/IP, the default network protocol is 'Telnet' and the TCP port number for the 'Telnet' protocol is '23'. If the host you want to connect to uses a Telnet port number other than '23', you can specify that number in the Telnet field. In addition, if you want to use a non-telnet protocol for TCP/IP connection, make sure that 'Telnet' field in the connection type is unchecked. For more information about non-telnet TCP/IP connection, please refer to the Help System of RemLynx program. Take the following steps to make a TCP/IP connection. 1. Enter the descriptive host name in the 'Host Name' field 2. Enter the network host name or IP address in the 'Host/IP Addr' field (For example, or ) 3. Make sure that 'TCP/IP' in the connection type is checked. When 'TCP/IP' is checked for a connection type, the default Telnet protocol is enabled and the TCP port number(23) is used. Otherwise, enter a port number in the Telnet Port field and uncheck the 'Telnet' field for non-telnet TCP/IP connection. 4. Click 'Add' to add the entry to the phone directory list 5. 5 5. How to Maintain the Phone Directory The phone directory is designed to provide fast access to commonly used hosts. Hosts can be one of two type, TCP/IP or Modem. Hosts are selected within the phone directory by clicking once with the left mouse button on the host name within the host list box. The selected host will then be highlighted. Double clicking the left mouse button on a host name will close the phone directory and connect to the host. 5.1 To add a host to the phone directory The quickest way to add a host is to select an existing one that is like the one you would like to add. For example, to add a new host with TCP/IP connection (or a host with Modem connection), select the Telnet Default entry (or the Modem default ). Then enter the descriptive host name in the Host Name field and the network host name/ip address (or a phone number for Modem connection) in the Phone Number or Host/IP Number field. If the connection type is a TCP/IP, enter a Telnet port number (the default is 23) in the Telnet Port field and check Telnet field (for network protocol). If the connection type is a Modem, make sure that you specify the number of serial port that your modem is currently attached. If you are not sure which serial port your modem is currently using, please refer to the Modem applet in the system control panel. Then press the Add button. To connect to the host, simply doubleclick on the new host entry. 5.2 To change information for a host Select the desired host and enter the new information in the data entry fields (for example, a Host Name, a Phone Number, IP Address, a Connection type and etc ) below the host list box. Once all changes have been made, just press Change button. 5.3 To delete a host Select the desired host entry and press Delete button 5.4 To connect to a host Select the desired host entry and press Connect button DCN-M RemLynx Page 3 of 4

Terminal Types for Novastar 4 System and Remlynx When the remote connection is established between the PC and the host system, you must log into the host system with the following terminal types: RemLynx terminal type = vt100 Novastar terminal type = remlynx If the host system does not have a remlynx terminal type, install the NovaStar 4 update from the Remlynx installation CD-Rom. To install the update on the NovaStar 4 host system, execute the command: install -u /cd0/ns4.f 7. Other Features of Remlynx This manual described the basic information about RemLynx, the creation of the network connection and the phone directory maintenance. However, RemLynx has more useful features that are not mentioned here. Two of them are a file transfer capability with popular file transfer protocols (for example, Kermit, XMODEM, ZMODEM, B-PLUS and Quick-VAN) and TEK4010 emulation. For more detailed information about these features, you can always refer to the Help System of RemLynx.
