1 CHAPTER 6 Navigating Cisco Prime Health and Utilization Monitor Tasks in LMS 4.1 Cisco Prime Health and Utilization Monitor (HUM) is a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) based MIB polling application that monitors network elements (such as CPU, memory, interfaces/ports, and links) for their availability and utilization levels and provides historical reporting. This chapter provides mapping of HUM tasks in Cisco Prime LMS 4.1. You can create a Poller, modify the configuration of a Poller, delete a Poller, Activate or De-activate a Poller, clear missed cycles and so on. Templates are a logical group of MIB variables that allow you to monitor the performance parameters of a device (such as CPU, memory, interface) for utilization and availability levels. You can create a user-defined template, modify the configuration of a user-defined template, export and import a user-defined template, delete a user-defined template, and so on. Threshold and TrendWatch Tasks This section provides information on the following HUM tasks in LMS 4.1: Threshold Setup Tasks TrendWatch Setup Tasks 6-2

You can create a TrendWatch for a MIB variable, based on a template or on a threshold. You can create, modify, delete, activate or de-activate a TrendWatch. Configure and manage log level settings. You can set log level modes (such as Fatal, Error, Info, Debug) either for all application modules or at a module level. You can configure LMS to periodically purge job data that you no longer need. LMS allows you to publish the PDF, HTML and CSV format of all the reports to a directory location of your choice. This is done by setting a default directory path. You can configure LMS to periodically purge polled data that you no longer need in the database. You can view the details of the data purged in LMS LMS allows you to configure the SNMP timeout and SNMP retries. The SNMP timeout and SNMP retries are based on the device and network response time. SNMP timeout is the duration of time that LMS waits for the device to respond before it tries to query the device again. SNMP retry is the maximum number of times LMS retries to query the device. 6-4

The new MIB file is compiled and stored in LMS. You can use the new MIB file to create new templates by grouping MIB variables. You can view the Audit Trail Logging report for all modules, categories and users. LMS allows you to create SNMP Trap Receiver Groups. This is a group of hosts that receives specified trap notifications, when any TrendWatch or Threshold violation occurs in LMS. LMS allows you to create Syslog Receiver Groups. Syslog Receiver Groups is a group of hosts that receives Syslog messages when any TrendWatch or Threshold violation occurs in HUM. 6-5
