1 CHAPTER 7 Navigating Cisco Prime Internetwork Performance Monitor Tasks in LMS 4.1 Cisco Prime Monitor (IPM) is a network troubleshooting application that gauges network response time and availability. It allows network administrators to proactively discover and address end-to-end network performance issues. Real-time and historical reports are used for network troubleshooting, helping administrators locate and diagnose congestion and latency problems. This chapter provides mapping of IPM tasks in LMS 4.1. This chapter explains: Collector Management Tasks Report Tasks Admin Tasks Collector Management Tasks This section provides information on the following IPM Collector Management Tasks in LMS 4.1 IPM Devices Tasks IP SLA Operations Collector Tasks Outage Group Administration Tasks 7-1

2 Collector Management Tasks Chapter 7 Navigating Cisco Prime Monitor Tasks in LMS 4.1 Table 7-1 Collector Management Tasks IPM Devices Tasks Viewing IPM Devices Devices IP SLA Operations IP SLA Operations Operations Collector Tasks Collector Management Page Collectors Monitor > Performance : IPSLA > Devices Monitor > Performance : IPSLA > Operations Monitor > Performance : IPSLA > Collectors You can list devices, add adhoc target, edit device attributes, delete devices, enable IPSLA responder and update IPSLA config in this page. You can define one or more new operations to fit your needs. Although, you cannot modify the default operations, you can use them as templates for creating your own operations. The List of Operations page allows you to view the list of system-defined and user-defined operations and filter the list of operations. You can view, edit, create and delete user defined operation You can list all the operation-based (system-defined) and user-defined collector groups in IPM. You can list collectors, filter collectors, view collector details and view the collector statistics or compare the latency of collectors based on the granularity. You can also edit collector details, delete, monitor, start, stop, create collectors, export and import collectors, and reconfigure collectors. 7-2

You can create, edit, and delete a planned outage and view completed planned outages. You can create user defined collector groups and also edit, delete, refresh and view properties of these collector groups. Report Tasks This section provides information on the following IPM Reports Tasks in LMS 4.1: Report Archive Tasks Report Job Browser Tasks Audit Reports Table 7-2 Report Tasks Report Archive Tasks Using Report Archives Report Job Browser Tasks Monitor > Reports > Report Archives Reports > Report Archives: IPSLA You can manage the archived reports and create report jobs on the Historical Reports page You can create, view and delete report jobs here. The Filter option available in the Report Archives page, allows you to filter the reports based on certain fields and value. 7-3

You can perform the following: Viewing the Job Details Stopping the Report Jobs Deleting Scheduled Jobs It also shows the report job statuses. You can generate audit reports on all audit changes that occurred in the network during a specified time period. You can view the daily system report for each collector on the LMS server. You can also filter the reports based on certain fields and values. You can view the weekly system report for each collector on the LMS server. You can also filter the reports based on certain fields and values. You can view the monthly summary for each collector on the LMS server. You can also filter the reports based on certain fields and values. Admin Tasks This section provides information on the following IPM Admin Tasks in LMS 4.1: Log Level Application Auto Allocation IPSLA Syslog Configuration Purging 7-4

5 Chapter 7 Navigating Cisco Prime Monitor Tasks in LMS 4.1 Admin Tasks Table 7-3 Admin Tasks Log Level Log Level Monitor > Admin > Log Level Application Application Monitor > Admin > Application Auto Allocation Auto Allocation IPSLA Syslog Configuration IPSLA Syslog Configuration Monitor > Admin > Auto Allocation Monitor > Admin > IPSLA Syslog Configuration Purging Purging Monitor > Admin > Purge Admin > System: Debug > IPSLA Debugging Admin > Collection : Performance > IPSLA Application Inventory > Device Administration: Device Allocation Policy Admin > Network: Notification and Action > IPSLA Syslog Configuration Admin > Network: Purge > IPSLA Data Purge You can use the Log Level option to set the log levels for LMS modules. You can either set the log levels for all LMS modules or at a module level. The Application page allows you to copy IP SLA (Internet Protocol Service Level Agreement) configuration to running-config, and set managed source interface. Before adding devices to LMS you can use the Auto Allocation option to enable automatic allocation of devices from Device Credentials Repository (DCR). You can either enable or disable the IPSLA Syslog. However the IPSLA Syslog can be configured only by a Network Administrator or System Administrator. The Device Selector will display only the Source devices that are IPSLA enabled. It does not display any Target devices. The Purge page allows you to set the Purge period for Historical and Audit reports. You can also set the Purge period from the Setup Center. IPM purges the historical data automatically everyday, based on the purge period specified on the Purge page. If the Purge period is not specified, it purges the historical data based on the default values. 7-5
