1 AP Computer Science Summer Work Mrs. Kaelin Welcome future AP Computer Science Students! The purpose of this summer assignment is to introduce you to the world of computer programming. These assignments are due on Friday of the first week of school and will count as a test grade for the first quarter. Any summer assignments not turned in on that Friday will be counted as a 0%. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me over the summer at the listed above. 1. There are two articles that I would like for you to read and respond to. You can find the questions for each article on the attached worksheets. a. The first article is on the history of Java programming written by Gwyne Cee. b. The second reading assignment is to introduce you to the Java programming language. It is the first chapter from a free online book, Think Java: How to Think Like a Computer Scientist, written by Allen B. Downey. Once you have accessed the book, please click on the section titled The Way of the Program Using online resources, define the list of common vocabulary words (attached) that will be used frequently in this class. Be specific as possible and make sure the definition correlates to Java. 3. Visit and find the AP Computer Science A home page. Open the course description and read the section on the exam. Answer the attached questions regarding the exam. Please feel free to read any other section of the course description.
