2 Introduction into the Innovator Eclipse Connection The connection described here is available for Eclipse from version 2.1. A compatibility layer is used for Eclipse 3.x. You can also access the excellence models using this Eclipse connection. A further excellence connection exists for these models for Eclipse from version 3.3. This connection provides display filters and is an updateable Java implementation. The Eclipse plug-in essentially provides a view which contains an Innovator model as a tree. This is very similar to the familiar view used in the Innovator model browser. Packages from fold-out nodes are displayed within the view. These packages, in turn, contain packages and other model elements. For virtually every object it is possible to open the assigned Innovator application, e.g. the diagram or text editor, using the context menu. The entire Innovator functionality is available to you. The plug-in does not currently offer round-trip engineering. It is therefore necessary to carry out exports and imports for Innovator in the Innovator model browser. The Innovator view always tries to determine and select the elements belonging to the editor which are active at the time. Depending on configurations made during set-up, the file extension is taken into account (see "Setting Up the Innovator Eclipse Connection", p. 5). You are logged-out of the Innovator models when you close Eclipse. 1

3 Installing the Innovator Plug-In Copy the content of the archive de.mid.eclipse_<version Number> in the plug-in-directory. For Eclipse, this is <Installation Directory>\Plug-Ins. If you already use an older version of this plug-in, you should delete this from the plug-in directory. The plug-in requires shared libraries from Innovator and opens Innovator applications. To do this, enter the executable file (.../INOEXE) in the environment variable PATH in the Innovator directory. The Innovator view is available to you once you have started Eclipse. It displays Innovator elements in a view similar to that of an Innovator model browser if an Innovator connection is configured for the current Java project. This takes place by opening the Innovator connection assistant using the context menu for the Java project. You can find details regarding plug-in installation in the online help. Configuration of the Innovator Eclipse Connection Access the configuration in the Innovator connection assistant. You can find the related menu item Innovator>Connection Assistant... in the Java Projects context menu in Eclipse. Note You can easily modify the configuration at a later time by opening the Innovator tab in the Java project s Properties for <Name> dialog box and clicking on the [Change Connection] (see "Properties of the Innovator Eclipse Connection", p. 6). 2

4 Step 1: Model Selector In this step, select the model which you wish to connect your Java project to. Repository field» Select the repository which contains the model you want. Model Type field The model type is currently permanently set to UML. Model field» Select the desired model. Login field» Select the Innovator user you wish to work with. Role field» Select the desired role. Password field» Enter the respective Innovator password. 3

5 Step 2: Mapping Configuration If you have also input the correct entries here, then the Innovator view displays the respective Innovator object for every Java code that is being edited in the editor. The procedures used work in the following way: if an editor is activated with a Java source file, then the plug-in considers the respective path in the file system. This deletes the Eclipse base paths which are described below. The relative path which has now been produced is used to access Innovator: it is treated as a package hierarchy in the specified Innovator model. Before this happens, however, the Innovator base package which is also specified in this dialog is added. The Innovator Object found by this action is then selected. If the file extension.java is included, then go to preferences. Warning On the one hand, the plug-in attempts to align specified class hierarchies with one another using the file system and, on the other hand, using the package hierarchies in Innovator. The package hierarchies in Innovator should, therefore, copy the package path of your Java classes. Innovator base package field» Enter the Innovator package hierarchy, up to and including the parent of the first package in your class hierarchy. Example: If your class hierarchy is called com.example.*; you can find this under the Innovator package Java Design, which can be found below the Business Objects package. You can find the latter directly under the root in the Innovator package hierarchy. To do this, enter Business Objects::Java Design in this position. Eclipse base path field» Here, enter the path to your class hierarchy within your Eclipse work space. This is the same path which you entered in the Java Build Path for your source files in the project settings. 4

6 Example: If your Eclipse project is called Test, your class hierarchy can be found in the src directory. The path is then called /Test/src. Setting Up the Innovator Eclipse Connection The settings made here affect all Eclipse projects with active Innovator connections. Log out on exit check box If this check box is activated, then the user who are logged-in to any Innovator models from within Eclipse are logged-out when Eclipse is closed. Respect extension check box If this check box is activated, then the extension is observed. This is how the Java source file and not the class is found (is executed without an extension in Innovator). Sort packages user-defined check box If this check box is activated, then the packages are ordered how they can be viewed in the userdefined arrangement in the Innovator model browser. 5

7 Properties of the Innovator Eclipse Connection The settings made here only affect the current Eclipse projects with active Innovator connections. The Innovator tab contains the Properties display of Innovator connection and mapping, as well as two buttons. You can modify or separate the existing connections using these. [Change Connection] button» Open the connection assistant again by clicking on this button. This allows you to modify the values that were entered there. [Remove Connection] button» Separate the connection to Innovator by clicking on this button. To reconnect it, open the connection assistant again.
