December 2017 Update an orchestration v2 which is in the Error state Create a blank orchestration v2 in the web console, and then add objects to it as required View the event log of a VPN connection that you are setting up using VPNaaS Retry to establish a VPN connection using VPNaaS if the provisioning process is incomplete Navigation tabs and tiles in the left pane of the web console are replaced by a drop-down list The Private Gateway page has moved November 2017 If you update an orchestration v2 and the changes you made cause the orchestration to go into an Error state, you can update the orchestration to undo your changes. See Updating an Orchestration v2 in Using Oracle Cloud You can create a blank orchestration in the web console. Instead of defining the orchestration in a JSON-format file and then uploading the orchestration to Compute Classic, you can create a blank orchestration, and then add objects to it by updating the orchestration. While updating the orchestration, you can define attributes for a single instance or create complex topologies that consist of multiple instances and multiple networks. See Creating an Instance Using a Blank Orchestration v2 in Using Oracle Cloud When you try to set up a VPN connection between the cloud gateway and the third-party device in your data center using VPNaaS, you can view the event log to identify and troubleshoot the issues if the IPSec tunnel is not established or if it goes down. See Viewing the Event Log for a VPN Connection in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute While creating a VPN Connection, you can monitor the provisioning status of your VPN connection by looking at the value of Life Cycle Status on the VPN Connections page. If the Life Cycle Status of the VPN connection changes to Error, you can retry establishing the connection after identifying the issue and fixing it. To retry establishing the VPN connection, use the new Retry menu option that s available for the VPN Connection. Earlier, you could use vertical tabs and tiles to navigate through the web console. Now, you navigate through the web console by using a drop-down list. The Private Gateway page is now available under FastConnect in the Network drop-down list. Earlier, the Private Gateway page was available under the VPN tab. Create Instance wizard creates nonpersistent instances by default QuickStarts enhanced to allow you to select other images When you create an instance using the Create Instance wizard, the instance is created with persistence set to false. This enables you to update any attribute of the instance when you suspend the orchestration. From the QuickStarts page, you can now select the Show All Images option to go to the Images page of the Create Instance wizard. 6

Compute Classic accounts provisioned from onwards no longer see the Corente VPN pages The VPNaaS, Corente, and FastConnect pages have moved Instance management options disabled for PaaS instances Instance snapshot option disabled for instances in an error state Corente VPN accounts aren t created for new Compute Classic accounts. Instead, use the VPN as a Service (VPNaaS) page to create a VPN connection to your instances. See Setting Up a VPN Connection Using VPNaaS in Using Oracle Cloud The Corente VPN, VPNaaS, and FastConnect pages are now available under the VPN tab on the Network page. Earlier, the Corente pages were under the VPN tab, while the FastConnect Private Gateways and VPNaaS VPN Connections pages were under the IP Networks tab. The Compute Classic console disables the stop and reboot options and icons for PaaS instances such as Java Cloud Service instances. You should manage those instances from the respective PaaS service console. The web console no longer enables the option to create an instance snapshot when an instance is in an error state. October 2017 Creating an instance using QuickStarts Using the web console to update orchestrations v2 Creating an instance using the Create Instance wizard generates orchestrations v2 The estimated cost of an instance is displayed when using the Create Instance wizard to create an instance You can launch the Create Instance QuickStarts page from the My Services Dashboard page or from the Instances page of the Compute Classic web console. The QuickStarts page allows you to quickly create an instance using a predefined instance configuration. The instance is created using default storage and networking options. See Creating an Instance Using QuickStarts in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute The web console is enhanced to allow you to update orchestrations v2 that are in the stopped or suspended state. The Update option allows you to modify object-level attributes as well as general orchestration attributes such as object persistence. See Updating an Orchestration v2 in Using Oracle Cloud When you use the Create Instance wizard to create an instance, the Create Instance wizard now uses a single orchestration v2 to manage the instance and all the associated resources including storage volumes and networking objects. You can view and modify the orchestrations created by the Create Instance wizard on the Orchestrations page. See Monitoring Orchestrations v2 in Using Oracle Cloud When you use the Create Instance wizard to create an instance, the estimated cost of the instance is displayed. The estimated cost is calculated at list price and it assumes that the instance is running continuously for a period of one month (31 days). The estimated cost varies depending on the shape and the amount of storage selected. 7

Using the web console to create the private gateways that are required to use FastConnect Classic private peering You can now use the web console to create a private gateway. You can then configure your FastConnect Classic connection to use this private gateway to connect to instances on IP networks. FastConnect Classic connections using private gateways allow you to connect to the private IP addresses of your instances. See Connecting to Instances Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect Classic in Using Oracle Cloud August 2017 Using the web console to upload and manage Orchestrations v2 Using the web console to switch between multiple entitlements of Compute Classic July 2017 You can now upload, start, view, download, suspend, stop, or delete orchestrations v2 using the web console. Earlier, you could upload and manage orchestrations v2 using the REST API. See Managing Resources Using Orchestrations v2 in Using Oracle Cloud If you have multiple entitlements of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic in your account, you can switch between different entitlements in the web console by selecting the appropriate option in the site selector. Using the web console to create a VPN connection using VPN as a Service (VPNaaS) Starting, stopping, or rebooting an instance from the instance listing page on the web console Shutting down instances using the Stop option Updating the default boot disk while creating an instance using the Create Instance wizard June 2017 You can now use the web console to set up a VPN connection between your data center and IP networks in your Compute Classic site using VPNaaS. If you click an instance to view details, you can also use the start, stop, or reboot icons on the instance details page. To shut down an instance and free up the resources utilized by the instance, you can now use the Stop option on the web console. Earlier, this option was labeled Shut Down. When you create an instance using the Create Instance wizard, on the Storage page you can use the Update option to modify attributes of the persistent boot disk that is created by default. See Creating an Instance from the Instances Page in Using Oracle Cloud 8

New Command Line Interface (CLI) tool released Connecting to instances on IP networks using FastConnect Classic private peering Restoring storage volumes across sites using remote snapshots A new CLI tool is now available to run commands to create and manage resources in your Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic account. The new CLI supports all the objects and operations supported by the previous CLI tool. However, the new tool uses a different syntax and the names of objects might differ. Context-sensitive help is available to provide information about the options for each command and the permitted values for each option. For instructions to download and install the new CLI tool, see CLI Reference for Oracle Cloud In future, the new CLI tool will be enhanced to support multiple cloud IaaS services. You can set up a FastConnect Classic private peering connection to access your Compute Classic instances. If your instances are on IP networks you can access them using their private IP addresses from your on-premises private networks. You don t need to associate public IP addresses with instances on IP networks. To set up a private peering connection, use the REST API to create a private gateway object in Compute Classic and attach your IP networks to this private gateway. Then set up a FastConnect Classic private peering connection by ordering Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect See Connecting to Instances Using FastConnect Classic in Using Oracle Cloud If your domain spans multiple sites, you can now create a storage volume snapshot in one site and restore it in another site using remote snapshots. See Backing Up and Restoring Storage Volumes Using Snapshots in Using Oracle Cloud May 2017 Using persistent SSD block storage Creating objects using the visual object editor Selecting IP reservations for IP networks while creating an instance using the Create Instance wizard In some sites, SSD block storage is now available. You can attach these persistent SSD block storage volumes to instances as either boot disks or data disks. You can now create some objects in the visual object editor by dragging an object from the palette on the left and dropping it on the canvas in the center. You can also update or delete some objects in the visual object editor. See Managing Resources Using the Visual Object Editor in Using Oracle Cloud You can now select IP reservations from the public IP pool or the cloud IP pool in the Network page of the Create Instance wizard. These IP reservations are used to access instance interfaces on IP networks. See Creating an Instance from the Instances Page in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute 9

Updating an IP network interface while creating an instance using the Create Instance wizard When you use the Create Instance wizard to create an instance, if required, you can update an IP network interface while configuring the network settings. See Creating an Instance from the Instances Page in Using Oracle Cloud April 2017 Using the orchestrations v2 REST API to create and manage multiple interdependent objects Shutting down and restarting instances Using the REST API to set up a VPN connection using VPN as a Service (VPNaaS) Configuring IP network interfaces while creating instances using the Create Instance wizard Orchestrations v2 provide a modular and flexible approach to creating and managing multiple resources through a single JSON file. Orchestrations v2 are similar to orchestrations v1, but they also provide certain benefits over orchestrations v1 functionality. Using orchestrations v2 you can create references across interdependent objects, so that entire hierarchies can be created or restored without manually ensuring that dependencies are satisfied. You can update some attributes of objects while the orchestration is running. You can also manage the state and lifecycle of each instance in an orchestration, without disturbing the state of other resources. See About Orchestrations v2 in Using Oracle Cloud Instance life cycle management operations have been enhanced to allow you to shut down an instance that uses a persistent bootable storage volume. Earlier, you could delete an instance by stopping the instance orchestration. This would stop all the instances and other resources defined in the orchestration. Now you can shut down an instance without changing the state of other objects in the orchestration. You can restart the instance later on. The instance resumes with the same configuration and data. See Stopping and Restarting an Instance in Using Oracle Cloud You can set up a VPN connection between your data center and IP networks in your Compute Classic site using VPN as a Service (VPNaaS). VPNaaS uses IPSec-based tunnels to carry encrypted traffic between your data center and your instances in Compute You can set up a VPNaaS connection using the REST API. See Setting Up a VPN Connection Using VPNaaS in Using Oracle Cloud The Network page of the Create Instance wizard is enhanced to allow you to specify various attributes of an interface to be added to an IP network. You can select the IP network you want to add each interface to and specify a static IP address if required. You can also specify a name for the vnic and select the vnicsets that you want to add each vnic to. If you don t add your instance to the shared network, you can select an interface on an IP network as the default gateway. See Creating an Instance from the Instances Page in Using Oracle Cloud 10

Creating a delayed instance snapshot Selecting an IP pool while creating an IP reservation for IP networks February 2017 When you create an instance using a nonpersistent boot disk, you can take a snapshot of the instance to create machine image based on that instance. Now, when you generate the snapshot from the web console, you can select an option to defer the snapshot until the instance is about to shut down. This allows you to continue making changes to the instance and ensure that the snapshot captures all the changes you ve made. See Creating an Instance Snapshot in Using Oracle Cloud You can now select an IP pool when using the web console to create an IP reservation for IP networks. Earlier, you could select an IP pool only by using the REST API. See Reserving a Public IP Address for IP Networks in Using Oracle Cloud Attaching NVMe SSD data disks to instances New shapes available Creating storage volume snapshots from the Visualization page New page added to the Create Instance wizard to configure network settings January 2017 You can now use NVMe SSD disks as nonpersistent data disks attached to your instances. These disks are attached as raw block devices with the device name /dev/xvdz on an Oracle Linux instance. After your instance is created, format your NVMe SSD disk with the required file system and then mount it on your instance. New general purpose, high-memory, and high I/O shapes are available in some sites. See About Machine Images and Shapes in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute The Visualization page now allows you to create storage volume snapshots. See Managing Resources Using the Visual Object Editor in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute The fields on the Instance page of the Create Instance wizard have been reorganized and the fields related to network configuration have been moved to a new Network page. 11

You can also associate an IP address with an interface to enable that interface to be accessible to other services in Oracle cloud. See Workflow for Assigning a Public IP Address to a Network Interface in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute You can also use the web console to associate a public IP addresses to an instance that has an interface on an IP network. See Managing Public IP Addresses in Using Oracle Cloud You can control the flow of traffic within and across the IP networks in your account by defining security rules and creating access control lists (ACLs). ACLs apply security rules to specified sets of virtual interfaces. See Workflow for Applying Access Control Lists in Using Oracle Cloud You can also use the web console to create security rules and apply them to virtual interfaces using ACLs. See Managing Security Rules for IP Networks and Managing ACLs in Using Oracle Cloud You can go to the Visualization page on the web console to see a visual representation of the objects in your account. See Managing Resources Using the Visual Object Editor in Using Oracle Cloud You can select high I/O shapes to create instances. These shapes enable you to provide local, ephemeral NVMe SSD boot disks for your instances. These shapes have a fixed disk size of 400 GB per OCPU. See About Machine Images and Shapes in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute You can create containers in your associated Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Classic instance by specifying the /integrations/osscontainer object in a REST API call or in an orchestration. See Orchestration Attributes for integrations/osscontainer in Using Oracle Cloud You can now use the web console to update or delete an SSH public key even if it s associated with an instance. Earlier the update and delete operations were disabled for keys that were associated with one or more instances. When you delete a master orchestration from the web console, you can now opt to delete all nested orchestrations as well. See Deleting an Orchestration in Using Oracle Cloud You can add a public IP address to an instance on the instance details page. Earlier, you could do this only while creating or updating an IP reservation on the IP Reservations page. 12

Setting up a VPN connection to a multitenant site using the web console (release ) Enabling instance-level metrics collection (release ) Updating orchestrations using the web console (release ) You can now set up a VPN connection to a multitenant site using the web console. Earlier, you could do this by using App Net Manager. VPN connections to a multitenant site use a Corente Services Gateway instance in Compute Classic and any supported third-party device in your data center. See About Setting Up VPN in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute The opc-init package has been enhanced to include the OPC Agent. You can enable this agent on your instance, to collect accurate instance-level memory utilization metrics. See Enabling Instance Metrics Collection in Using Oracle Cloud You can update a stopped orchestration directly in the web console. You don t need to download the orchestration file to update it. See Updating an Orchestration in Using Oracle Cloud November 2016 Enabling active-active HA support in your VPN connection Adding an SSH key from a file Creating a custom Oracle Linux machine image which supports multiple network interfaces October 2016 You can set up a VPN connection between a third-party device in your data center and the IP networks in your Compute Classic site using a Corente Services Gateway instance. In this scenario, if you configure two such VPN tunnels, then you can enable active-active high availability (HA) between these tunnels, so that if either tunnel fails, traffic is routed over the second tunnel. See Configuring Active-Active HA in Setting Up VPN from a Third-Party Gateway to an IP Network in Oracle Cloud. When you add or update an SSH public key on Compute Classic, instead of copying the key value from a file, you can now select the file. See Adding an SSH Public Key in Using Oracle Cloud The tutorial for creating a private Oracle Linux machine image is updated with instructions to implement support for multiple network interfaces on each instance. When you create an instance using this image, you can attach the instance to a maximum of eight networks. See Building a Custom Oracle Linux 6.7 Image with the LAMP Stack. 13

Creating IP networks Oracle-provided images enhanced to support multiple vnics New images available Scheduled backups Additional platform support for the CLI Creating remote snapshots using the CLI VPN for Windows instances Create Instance wizard now shows Marketplace images opc-init can be used in private images You can create IP networks and add instances to one or more IP networks. An IP network allows you to specify a range of IP addresses that can be associated with your instances. These IP addresses aren t part of the common pool of private IP addresses used by all tenants in a multitenant site. You have complete control over how private IP addresses are assigned to your instances as well as over the network configuration. Using IP networks, you can create a network architecture that mirrors and extends the architecture you use in your onpremises data center. See About IP Networks in Using Oracle Cloud All Oracle-provided Oracle Linux images have been updated to support multiple virtual network interfaces for each instance. Now when you use Oracle-provided images to create an instance, you can add each instance to up to eight IP networks, inclusive of the shared network. This enables you to take advantage of setting up your own IP networks. New images are available for creating instances. To identify the new images, look for the version in the image name. See About Oracle-Provided Linux Images in Using Oracle Cloud You can schedule backups of storage volumes at specified intervals. The backups are stored remotely in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Cloud. When required, you can use these backups to restore a storage volume in the same site. See Scheduling Backups of Storage Volumes and Restoring from Backups in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute You can install the CLI on additional platforms. You can use the CLI to create and manage storage volume snapshots. You can use VPN to connect to Windows instances using a Corente Services Gateway in Oracle Cloud. See About Oracle-Provided Windows Images in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Oracle provides images for Oracle Solaris See About Oracle-Provided Solaris Images in Using Oracle Cloud You can clone storage volumes by taking a snapshot of a storage volume and using it to create new storage volumes. See Backing Up and Restoring Storage Volumes Using Snapshots in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute You can clone an instance by taking a snapshot and using the resulting image to launch new instances. See Cloning an Instance by Using Instance Snapshots in Using Oracle Cloud You can increase the size of a storage volume, even when it s attached to an instance. See Update a Storage Volume in REST API for Oracle Cloud The Private Images page is now available from the Images tab on the web console. Earlier, it was under the near the upper right corner. menu You can now find the public and private IP addresses of each instance on the Instances page. Earlier, this information was displayed only on the instance details page of each instance. 18

Improved image upload tool The CLI tool for uploading custom images to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Classic has been updated to support various operating systems. The tool has also been renamed to uploadcli. Earlier it was called upload-img. See Uploading a Machine Image to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage March 2016 Changes in the web console for creating storage volumes opc-init documentation The steps for creating storage volumes using the web console are simplified. See Creating a Storage Volume in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic. Note: While creating a storage volume, you can no longer specify the instance to which the volume must be attached. After creating a volume, you can attach it as described in Attaching a Storage Volume in Using Oracle Cloud opc-init is a set of scripts included in Oracle-provided machine images, enabling you to specify configurations that must be performed automatically after an instance is created. See Automating Instance Initialization Using opc-init in Using Oracle Cloud February 2016 Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Networking Classic - VPN for Dedicated Compute Security IP list as the destination in a security rule created using the web console SSH key management actions moved to the Network tab of the web console Summary information displayed for each resource in the web console Simplified navigation and improved performance in the web console You can connect to instances through secure IPSec VPN tunnels using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Networking Classic - VPN for Dedicated Compute. See Connecting to Instances in a Dedicated Site Using VPN in Using Oracle Cloud While creating a security rule using the web console, you can select a security IP list as the destination. Earlier, you could set only a security list as the destination. The SSH key management feature of the web console has been moved to the Network tab. Earlier, it was under the menu near the upper right corner. For each resource instances, storage volumes, and so on the web console includes a pane at the top displaying summary information about that resource. In the Orchestrations tab, the objects are displayed in a tabular format by default. You can switch to the old list view. The web console uses a framework that supports faster retrieval (and display) of updated content. 19

What s New for Compute Classic on Oracle Cloud at Customer The following sections describe what s new in Compute Classic on Oracle Cloud at Customer. The Oracle Cloud at Customer family of products provides the capabilities of Oracle Cloud in your data center. Oracle upgrades your Oracle Cloud at Customer environment at regular intervals. If a Compute Classic feature is not available on Oracle Cloud at Customer, the topic describing the feature is marked as: This topic does not apply to Oracle Cloud at Customer. For individual options that are not supported in Oracle Cloud at Customer, the options are indicated as shown below, in the text: (Not available on Oracle Cloud at Customer) Topics August 2018 August 2018 Use the web console to create and manage multiple interdependent objects using orchestrations v2 Create a blank orchestration v2 in the web console, and then add objects to it as required Orchestrations v2 provide a modular and flexible approach to creating and managing multiple resources through a single JSON file. See About Orchestrations v2 in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute You can create a blank orchestration in the web console. See Creating an Instance Using a Blank Orchestration v2 in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute 20

Create an instance using QuickStarts Create an instance using the Create Instance wizard generates orchestrations v2 The estimated cost of an instance is displayed when using the Create Instance wizard to create an instance Update the default boot disk while creating an instance using the Create Instance wizard Instance management options disabled for PaaS instances Instance snapshot option disabled for instances in an error state Navigation tabs and tiles in the left pane of the web console are replaced by a dropdown list Start, shut down, or reboot an instance from the instance listing page on the web console You can launch the Create Instance QuickStarts page from the My Services Dashboard page or from the Instances page of the Compute Classic web console. The QuickStarts page allows you to quickly create an instance using a predefined instance configuration. The instance is created using default storage and networking options. See Creating an Instance Using QuickStarts in Using Oracle Cloud From the QuickStarts page, you can also select the Show All Images option to go to the Images page of the Create Instance wizard. When you use the Create Instance wizard to create an instance, the Create Instance wizard now uses a single orchestration v2 to manage the instance and all the associated resources including storage volumes and networking objects. You can view and modify the orchestrations created by the Create Instance wizard on the Orchestrations page. See Monitoring Orchestrations v2 in Using Oracle Cloud The instance is created with persistence set to false. This enables you to update any attribute of the instance when you suspend the orchestration. When you use the Create Instance wizard to create an instance, the estimated cost of the instance is displayed. The estimated cost is calculated at list price and it assumes that the instance is running continuously for a period of one month (31 days). The estimated cost varies depending on the shape and the amount of storage selected. When you create an instance using the Create Instance wizard, on the Storage page you can use the Update option to modify attributes of the persistent boot disk that is created by default. See Creating an Instance from the Instances Page in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute The Compute Classic console disables the stop and reboot options and icons for PaaS instances such as Java Cloud Service instances. You should manage those instances from the respective PaaS service console. The web console no longer enables the option to create an instance snapshot when an instance is in an error state. Earlier, you could use vertical tabs and tiles to navigate through the web console. Now, you navigate through the web console by using a drop-down list. You can use the icons or menu options on the Instances page on the web console to start, shut down, or reboot an instance. If you click an instance to view details, you can also use the start, shut down, or reboot icons on the instance details page. Documentation Accessibility 21
