2 Logging into Aplia Logging in through Aplia Use the following procedure to log into your Aplia course: Step Action 1 Navigate to Aplia.com Result: The Aplia Home page displays. 2 Enter your address and password. 3 Click Sign In. 3 (cont Result: A Help page displays. 4 Logging in through Cengage Brain Follow this procedure to log in to your Aplia course through Cengage Brain: Step Action 1 Use your browser to navigate to the URL: and enter your credentials. 2 Find your product through the dropdown menu. 3 Select your course. 5 Creating a Course This section describes the basics of creating your course. Decide the type of course you want before starting this process. The course creation wizard allows you to create a new course with default assignments, so you do not have to spend much time customizing. Alternatively, you can create a course copy. This is helpful if you are a returning user and would like to use your previous course. In addition, copying courses are helpful when instructors want to share each other s course setup or assignments. Using the Course Creation Wizard This section explains how to get to the course creation wizard, provides instructions on creating a new course, and then covers how to build a course copy. Getting to the Course Creation Wizard You can access the wizard from the My Home page. Click Create a New Course located in the My Courses section. Aplia Instructor Brief Start Guide Page 5

7 Creating a New Course Follow this procedure to create a new Aplia course. Step Action 1 Select Create a new course. Result: The dropdown menus display. 2 Select the discipline author and textbook. Result: The book displays with the Aplia logo. 3 Click Continue. Aplia Instructor Brief Start Guide Page 7
8 Result: Course Details display. NOTES: Request a student ID if you plan to import Aplia grades into a course management system, such as Blackboard. Enter section information only if all sections will share the same assignment deadlines. Otherwise, create a separate course for each section. In this latter situation, making copies of the course you are building may be helpful. 4 Enter your course information, such as title, date, time zone, and section. 5 Click Create Course. A confirmation message displays. 6 Click Close. Result: The webpage refreshes to the Course Home page. Aplia Instructor Brief Start Guide Page 8
9 Copying an Existing Course The course should already exist under your account if you are the course s owner. You can also copy an existing course if you are a co-instructor; the owner must go to the course s Administration page and add your Aplia username as a co-instructor if you have not already been added. Step Action 1 Select Copy an existing course. 2 Select the course from the dropdown menu. 3 Select the items to copy. You can copy Assignments, Course Materials, and Co-instructors. NOTE: Instructors can copy only courses that use the same textbook and edition. Aplia Instructor Brief Start Guide Page 9
10 4 Click Continue. 5 Enter your course information, such as title, date, time zone, and section. NOTES: Request a student ID if you plan to import Aplia grades into a course management system, such as Blackboard. 12 Navigating your Aplia Course This section describes how to navigate in Aplia. Course Home Page When you create a course, the Course Home page displays. You can do the following: Function Looks like this View announcemen ts for the course. Add new assignments. View a list of assignments due during the current week as well as upcoming weeks. 16 Adding Assignments to Aplia You can add different types of Aplia assignments to your course. Click Add Assignments from either the Course Home or Course Outline tab. The Add Assignment dialog box displays. Create a New Assignment Follow this procedure to create a new assignment: Step Action 1 Select Create a new assignment. 2 Click Submit. 18 Write Your Own Question Use the following procedure to write your own questions. Step Action 1 Click Write Your Own. 19 3 Write the question and answers. Click Submit. Result: The question displays in the question bank. 4 Continue to add questions to the assignment. The assignment displays in the course outline when you click Back to Course Aplia Instructor Brief Start Guide Page 19

Adding Questions from the Test Bank Use the following procedure to add questions from the Test Bank: Step Action 1 Click From Test Bank. 2 Select Browse all questions or Generate questions randomly. If You select Browse all questions. Then A list of questions displays. Select the check boxes next to the questions to add. Click Add selected questions to assignment. You select Generate questions randomly. Select the chapter to add questions from and the number of questions. Click Add questions to assignment. 3 The questions display in the assignment. NOTE: Pre-made assignments are available only for select disciplines: Step Action 1 Select Add assignments from the Assignment Library. 2 Click Continue. Result: The Assignment Library displays. 29 6 Fill out the required fields. 7 Click Submit Continue Browsing to navigate to the Assignment Library or Submit Course Outline to navigate to the Course Outline tab. Editing Assignments You can edit assignments from the Course Outline. Select the check boxes of the assignment you want to edit. Select an option from the drop down menu at the top to set the date, scoring or availability. Select the title of the assignment to edit questions titles and assignments. 32 Gradebook You can view student grades in a traditional gradebook from the Gradebook tab. View Grades The View Grades tab displays traditional gradebook view. Function Looks like this View a list of students and their scores. Hover over a grade to view the possible points. You can search for students. Import or export grades to your LMS. 33 Manage Grades Click the Manage Grades tab to change the weight and scoring of assignments. Function Looks like this You can drop the lowest scores on assignments. You can calculate grades by total points or average percentage. Aplia Instructor Brief Start Guide Page 33
