9 SECTION I INTRODUCTION The Apical A109 Emergency Float Kit and Emergency Float with Liferaft Kit consist of: four emergency float (or emergency float with liferaft) installation assemblies attached to the structural float provisions, and electrical provisions for the floats and liferafts (float arming switch, float deployment switch, liferaft deployment switch, and associated wiring). The kit also contains, at customer option, two 6-man liferafts which are packed on the fwd floats and have their own electrical inflation system consisting of: one liferaft inflation reservoir, one capacitor box assy, and two liferaft deployment switches. For A109E, S helicopters the primary is installed on the center console, and the secondary is attached to the overhead console between the crew and passenger compartments. For the AW109SP helicopters the primary is installed on the overhead panel and the secondary is installed either on the ceiling at the front of the cabin or on a liferaft control panel located on the LH side of the passenger cabin above the doors. All the associated plumbing, hardware, and electrical components to complete the installation of the kit are provided. The emergency floats will allow the helicopter to land on water during an emergency. The floats are inflated electrically when the float deployment switch on the collective is pushed. After a water landing, the two 6-man liferafts are electrically inflated by operating either the center console mounted guarded switch or the overhead mounted switch on the Agusta A109E, S helicopters and electrically inflated by operating either the overhead console mounted toggle switch or the liferaft control panel mounted switch on the Agusta AW109SP helicopters. 11 SECTION II OPERATING LIMITATIONS Type of Operation The emergency floats are not approved for ditching in accordance with JAR/FAR 27 requirements. Flight after a water landing is prohibited. Compatibility The Emergency Floats are not compatible with: Snow Skis (Agusta P/N or P/N 109G3271F01) Sump Pads (Agusta P/N or P/N 109G3272F01) Aircraft installing the Rescue Hoist and Step Bar must be modified with the AgustaWestland Protection Kit (Agusta P/N or P/N ) or the Apical Hoist Guard Kit (Apical P/N ) Airspeed Limitations Floats Stowed: No change from basic flight manual Floats Inflated: Maximum airspeed for inflation is 80 KIAS. Maximum airspeed with floats inflated is 80 KIAS. Maximum autorotation airspeed with floats inflated is 80 KIAS. Altitude Limitations Maximum altitude for inflation of emergency floats is 5,000 feet above the landing surface. Weight/CG Limitations No change. 13 SECTION III NORMAL PROCEDURES The Normal Procedures specified in the basic Flight Manual apply with the addition of the following: Preflight Checks Exterior Checks Check float covers for condition and proper closure. Ensure floats are stowed and properly secured to the float structural provisions. Check for correct reservoir pressures on reservoir valve pressure gauges. See Figure 13, Figure 14, and Figure 15. Check electrical connectors for security. Interior Checks Ensure that the FLOATS circuit breakers are in. (A109E, S Only) Ensure that the EMER FLOATS switch (Figure 8 and Figure 9) is in the disarmed position (off). Ensure that the ARMED message is extinguished. (AW109SP Only) Ensure that the FLOAT switch (Figure 10) is in the disarmed position (guard down). Ensure that the FLOATS ARMED message on the primary EDU caution panel is extinguished. (A109E, S Only) Bring EMER FLOATS switch to its armed position (on). Check that the EMER FLOATS ARMED message illuminates. Bring the EMER FLOATS switch to the disarm position (off), and check that the ARMED message extinguishes. (AW109SP Only) Bring the FLOAT switch to its armed position (guard up). Check that the amber FLOATS ARMED message is displayed on the primary EDU caution panel. Bring the FLOAT switch to the disarm position (guard down), and check that the FLOATS ARMED message extinguishes. Verify the location of the FLOAT deployment switch. Depending on customer configuration, deployment switch will either be collective or cyclic mounted for Agusta A109E, S helicopters (See Figure 11 and Figure 12). The deployment switch is located on the collective for Agusta AW109SP (See Figure 10) FAA Approved Date: 3 October 2011 Page 5 of 18

14 Takeoff (For A109E, S Only) Prior to takeoff over water, ensure that the EMER FLOATS switch is in the armed position (ARMED legend illuminated on the switch) as shown in Figure 9. (For AW109SP Only) Prior to takeoff, ensure that the FLOAT switch is in the armed position (guard up). (All Configurations) Check that the amber FLOATS ARMED message is displayed on the primary EDU caution panel. The master caution annunciator will flash when the float arming switch is engaged. Alternate Float Deployment Switch (Cyclic) A109E, S In-Flight Operations (For A109E, S Only) Bring the EMER FLOATS switch to the disarmed position (off) upon reaching 500 feet above water and prior to exceeding an airspeed of 80 KIAS, or when over land; ensure that the EMER FLOATS ARMED message is extinguished. (For AW109SP Only) Bring the FLOAT switch to the disarmed position (guard down) upon reaching 500 feet above water and prior to exceeding an airspeed of 80 KIAS, or when over land; ensure that the FLOATS ARMED message on the primary caution EDU panel is extinguished. NOTE: (For A109E, S Only) Liferafts will reach operating voltage approximately one minute after EMER FLOATS switch is armed (For AW109SP Only) Liferafts will reach operating voltage approximately one minute after FLOAT switch is armed. Descent and Landing Before Landing Overwater (A109E, S Only) Ensure that the EMER FLOATS switch is in the armed position (on) and EMER FLOATS ARMED message is illuminated. After Landing (A109E, S Only) Bring the EMER FLOATS switch to the disarmed position (off) ensure that the EMER FLOATS ARMED message is extinguished. (AW109SP Only) Bring the FLOAT switch to the disarmed position (guard down) ensure that the FLOATS ARMED message on the primary EDU caution panel is extinguished. Before Leaving Helicopter (A109E, S Only) Ensure that the EMER FLOATS switch is disarmed. (AW109SP Only) Ensure that the FLOAT switch is disarmed. 19 SECTION IV EMERGENCY AND MALFUNCTION PROCEDURES Inadvertent Float Inflation In-Flight In the event of inadvertent float inflation in-flight, reduce airspeed, adjust rate of descent to 500 fpm or less, and land as soon as possible. Avoid landing on terrain which could damage float bags. Electrical Malfunction (A109E, S Only) If EMER FLOATS ARMED message is illuminated while the EMER FLOATS switch is in the disarmed position (Off), pull out the FLOATS circuit breakers as well as the LIFERAFTS circuit breaker to preclude and inadvertent float or liferaft deployment. If airborne, land as soon as practical. (AW109SP Only) if FLOATS ARMED message is illuminated while the FLOAT switch is in the disarmed position (guard down) pull-out the FLOATS circuit breakers as well as the LIFERAFTS circuit breaker to preclude an inadvertent float or liferaft deployment. If airborne, land as soon as practical. Emergency Water Landing WARNING CREW AND PASSENGER DOORS SHALL REMAIN CLOSED DURING WATER LANDING. Reduce airspeed below the maximum inflation airspeed (80 KIAS) Establish autorotation or low power descent at approximately 500 feet per minute. (For A109 E, S Only) Ensure that the EMER FLOATS switch is in the armed position (on). Check that the EMER FLOATS ARMED message is illuminated (AW109SP Only) Ensure that the FLOAT switch is in the armed position (guard up). Check that the FLOATS ARMED message is illuminated (All Models) Completely push float deployment switch to inflate floats (Figure 11 for A109E, S), (Figure 10 for AW109SP). Adjust collective and cyclic pitch sufficiently to touchdown in a level attitude with forward speed and rate of descent as low as possible. FAA Approved Date: 24 February 2012 Page 11 of 17

20 Egress After Water Landing WARNING TAKEOFF AFTER WATER LANDING IS PROHIBITED Ensure rotor is stopped prior to egress. (A109E, S Only) Prior to opening doors, flip guard on liferaft deployment switch located on the center console (Figure 16 or Figure 17), and toggle switch to deploy. Alternatively, push liferaft deployment switch (hold down for 3 seconds) on the cockpit overhead between the crew and passenger compartment (Figure 18 or Figure 19) to inflate liferafts. (AW109SP Only) Prior to opening doors, toggle switch on the overhead panel (Figure 20) to deploy. Alternatively, depending on which wiring kit is installed: o For kits employing the liferaft deployment switch with switchguard, lift the switch guard and push liferaft deployment switch (hold for 3 seconds) located on the LH side of the passenger cabin above the doors (Figure 21) to inflate liferafts. o For kits employing the liferaft control panel, push liferaft deployment switch (hold for 3 seconds) on the liferaft control panel between the crew and passenger compartment (Figure 22) to inflate liferafts. NOTE In the event of a complete loss of electrical power, the liferafts will remain deployable for seven minutes. Crew egress should be accomplished by jettisoning crew doors. Passenger egress should be accomplished by pushing out emergency windows on passenger doors. Remove ELT (if installed) and Survival Kit by pulling on the lanyard after boarding the Liferaft.
