2 What do you know about your LifeRaft? Life Rafts come in many different shapes, colors, and sizes. Life Rafts are built to meet different specs and requirements. What do you know about your LifeRaft? Life Rafts are equipped to meet different specs and requirements. Regulations vary by authority, operations, and aircraft type. Regulations will determine what type and capacity of LifeRaft you need and what equipment you will require. LifeRaft use and care is critical to your safety!

3 What is the Right LifeRaft for You? FAA TSO Approved Life Rafts EASA TSO Approved Life Rafts An Approved LifeRaft is a Type One (dualtube design) LifeRaft that meets the specifications of TSO C70a. Required for use in all transport category A/C weighing over 12,500 lbs. Required for all Part 135 operations. JAR-OPS1 Compliant LifeRaft is a Type One (dual-tube design) LifeRaft that meets the specifications of ETSO 2C70a. Two compliant Life Rafts are required on all A/C. Non-TSO Approved LifeRaft Recommended for Part 91 operations where not required by regulation. Can be an aviation LifeRaft or even a marine LifeRaft. Only for use on A/C under 12,500 lbs. and Part 91 use in not-for-hire A/C.

4 What is the Right LifeRaft for You? Phenom 100 Life Rafts Part 91 Operation: LifeRaft must have rated capacity equal to or greater than the number of persons on board. Marine LifeRaft or Aviation LifeRaft. Approved or non-approved LifeRaft. Part 135 Operation: LifeRaft must have rated capacity equal to or greater than the number of persons on board. Must use an approved aviation LifeRaft. JAR-OPS1 Operation: Two or more Life Rafts are required. Must be approved Life Rafts Life Rafts must have a combined rated capacity equal to the capacity of the A/C. Life Rafts must have an overload rated capacity such that in the event of the loss of the LifeRaft of the largest capacity, the remaining LifeRaft has an overload rated capacity that can accommodate the capacity of the A/C. Phenom 300 Life Rafts Part 91 & Part 135 Operation: LifeRaft must have rated capacity equal to or greater than the number of persons on board. Must use an approved aviation LifeRaft. JAR-OPS1 Operation: Two or more Life Rafts are required. Must be approved Life Rafts Life Rafts must have a combined rated capacity equal to the capacity of the A/C. 5 How do you use your LifeRaft? Prepare for Ditching When an over - water emergency occurs and ditching appears imminent, a designated person removes the raft from its stowage place and secures it convenient to an exit. Open the Velcro painter/mooring line cover on top of the valise, and release the snaphook from the snaphook loop and snap onto any solid anchor point adjacent to the door or window from which the raft will be launched. LifeRaft Deployment Throw LifeRaft clear of aircraft. It will float. Pull on the painter/mooring line until all of the line has been paid out; a strong, quick pull will then inflate the raft. The painter/mooring line is attached to the raft to keep it from drifting away. After the raft inflates, survivors pull it into position at the exit for boarding. If survivors are in the water, the raft may be inflated quickly (without paying out all the painter/mooring line) by pulling the inflation ripcord handle. Board at either end using the boarding ladder and handles attached to the raft. After boarding the raft, look for other survivors and assist them in reaching the raft using the heaving-trailing line with floating handle if necessary. 6 How do you use your LifeRaft? Post Deployment If the raft should inflate in the inverted position, right the raft according to the righting instructions printed on the lower tube adjacent to the inflation cylinder. Righting line is on bottom of LifeRaft. Start at side with bottle. Everyone is in the LifeRaft Water inside the raft may be removed using the bailer and the sponge in the Survival Equipment Pack (SEP kit). Read the instructions in the survival manual to insure your survival. Use the raft knife located in the sheath at the entrance to cut the painter/mooring line and free the LifeRaft from the aircraft in case it should submerge. 8 What s in your LifeRaft SEP kit? Survival Equipment All items are tethered to the LifeRaft or contained within a pack tethered to the LifeRaft. FAA minimum requirements are exactly that minimum. Important SEP Equipment Survival S Type ELT Perhaps the most important item in the LifeRaft SEP kit. 406MHz Triple Frequency ELT (121.5 / 243 /406) WINSLOW / DME SRB 406 is installed and automatic in operation. Winslow SEP kits contain more than the minimum. Water Maker Cannot survive without water. Food rations are typically included, but don t eat if drinking water is not available. 9 What s in your LifeRaft SEP kit? Other Survival Equipment Signaling Devices. FAA regulations require the inclusion of pyrotechnic devices (flares). Hand-held Locator Flare. Hand-held Aerial Flare. Other devices include signal mirror, smoke, sea-dye markers, rescue streamers, and whistle. 11 Maintenance of Your LifeRaft. What do you need to do to maintain your Winslow LifeRaft? Nothing! Well almost nothing! Perform periodic visual inspections of the pack.
