9 About this publication Intended audience Publications IBM Tivoli Security Policy Manager enables you to manage access to resources by defining and enforcing security policies. You can manage many types of resources, including Web services and applications. This error message reference describes messages in a Tivoli Security Policy Manager environment. This publication is for system administrators and field support personnel responsible for troubleshooting a Tivoli Security Policy Manager environment. Readers of this book should have working knowledge of their environment and familiarity with the enforcement and decision points for the resources being protected. 13 Chapter 1. Message overview Message types Message format Messages indicate events that occur during the operation of the system. Depending on their purpose, messages might be displayed on the screen. By default, all informational, warning, and error messages are written to the message logs. The logs can be reviewed later to determine what events occurred, to see what corrective actions were taken, and to audit all the actions performed. For more information about message logs, refer to the Tivoli Security Policy Manager Troubleshooting Guide. Message are categorized to indicate the type of event that the message pertains to. The following types of messages are used: Informational messages Indicate conditions that are worthy of noting but that do not require you to take any precautions or perform an action. Because information messages do not require you to take any action, they are not included in the IBM Tivoli Security Policy Manager Error Message Reference. Warning messages Indicate that a potential problem has been detected that you should be aware of, but processing continues and you are not necessarily required to take action. Error messages Indicate that a condition has occurred that requires you to take action. Messages logged by Tivoli Security Policy Manager adhere to the Tivoli Message Standard. Each message consists of a message identifier (ID) and accompanying message text. Message ID format A message ID consists of 10 alphanumeric characters that uniquely identify the message. A message ID in Tivoli Security Policy Manager is composed of: v 3-character product identifier v 2-character or 3-character component or subsystem identifier v 3-digit or 4-digit serial or message number v 1-character type code indicating the severity of the message The following figure shows a graphical representation of a possible message ID and identifies its different parts. Severity Description I (Informational) Provides information or feedback about normal events that occur. In general, no action needs to be performed in response to an informational message. Because information messages do not require you to take any action, they are not included in the IBM Tivoli Security Policy Manager Error Message Reference. CTGVG0078I The classificationname was created successfully. W (Warning) Indicates that a potentially undesirable condition has occurred, but processing can continue. Intervention or corrective action might be necessary in response to a warning message. CTGVP0207W LDAP extensible matching is not supported in LDAP filters. 2 Version 7.1: Error Message Reference

15 E (Error) Indicates that a problem has occurred that requires intervention or correction before processing can continue. An error message might be accompanied by one or more warning or informational messages that provide additional details about the problem. CTGVG0003E The system is currently unavailable. An error occurred when contacting the server to perform an operation. The cause of this error can be network or system related. CTGVG0005E An error occurred when exporting the service descriptor file. An error occurred when exporting the service descriptor file. This can be caused by providing an incorrect service identifier, or by a problem with the service repository. Message text The text of the message, in the system locale, also is recorded in the log file. If the message text is not available in the desired language, the English language text is used.
