2 LIC v1.0 Update for Business Objects XIR2 SP4 This is a re-release of the LIC v1.0 to support Business Objects XIR2 SP4 (with or without the Productivity Pack). This version is based on the same source as the original 1.0 release no bug fixes or enhancements are included. These release notes provide information for new installations and upgrades specific to this re-release of LIC v1.0. All documents provided for the original LIC v1.0 package are also included on the CD (see Documentation on page 6). Before you install this product, we recommend you also read the for Business Objects v1.0 Release Notes. This document, located on the Pitney Bowes MapInfo website, provides technical notes and important information about known issues specific to the original LIC v1.0 package. Supported Systems and Servers The following operating systems are supported for this release of the LIC: Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition AIX 5.3 Solaris 9 Solaris 10 Linux (Red Hat 4.0 Enterprise) The following application servers are supported for this release of the LIC: Tomcat and above Tomcat 5.5 WebLogic 8.1 SP4 1 WebLogic 9.2 (with jrockit 5.0) WebSphere WebSphere (with Linux Red Hat 4.0 Enterprise) WebSphere WebSphere The following Java Developer Kits (JDKs) are supported for this release of the LIC: Sun s 1.4.2_13+ and IBM s 1.4.1, 1.4.2, and jrockit and 5.0 This release of LIC is also supported for the following associated browsers: Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 Internet Explorer 7.0 Firefox New for this release in support of Business Objects XIR2 SP4. v1.0 Release Notes for Business Objects XIR2 SP4 2

3 Pre-Installation Requirements The following software must be installed before proceeding with this installation of the LIC: Business Objects XIR2 SP4 (with or without the Productivity Pack) installed and configured An application server JDK 1.4.2_10 (shipped on the CD in the Java directory), or the JDK appropriate for your particular application server A Java Virtual Machine (JVM), properly set up (see the section JVM Setup in the Location Intelligence Component Installation Guide starting on page 12 for instructions). Note: For Business Objects XIR2 SP4, the Daf.configdir parameter is now located in the desktopmaps web.xml. If Performance Management is installed, verify that the -Daf.configdir parameter within the desktopmaps web.xml correctly points to the performance management directory. See the Installation Guide for more detailed information on pre-installation software and configuration requirements. CD Contents The LIC v1.0 CD consists of two root directories, XIR2 and XI 3.0. Since this release specifically supports Business Objects XIR2 SP4, the following table outlines the hierarchy of the XIR2 directory only. Note: Some directories are not completely revealed, for simplicity. When this is the case, the contents are identified generically in parentheses. 4 Upgrading From a Previous Version If you are currently running a previous version of the LIC on a J2EE environment, you may have customized your configuration files and named resources. If you have customized your files and resources, inter-related references have been set that you will want to preserve with the upgraded version. You can preserve your existing LIC configuration files and named resources by saving them and then merging them back into the new version. Note: If you have customized parts of the bifaces-config file other than the bitool managed bean, contact your Pitney Bowes MapInfo representative for assistance merging your customizations into the v1.0 configuration file. To upgrade from a previous version of the LIC: 1. Undeploy your existing desktopmaps.war, as well as any bimxtj472.war or bimxtj481.war files. 2. Rename your LIC installation directory, which contains all your existing configuration files and named resources, to a temporary name (for instance, if your directory is called by the default name LIC, rename it LIC_OLD). All files and filepaths are preserved in case you require a backup. 3. Confirm that both desktopmaps and either bimxtj472 or bimxtj481have undeployed cleanly. 4. Run the installation script as instructed in Installing the LIC on page 5, but do not configure your application server yet. Note: During the installation process, you must indicate to the installer that your configuration files and resources are to be stored in the same /<domain directory> directory for this upgrade installation as it used for the original installation. If you customized this directory during the previous installation, you must customize this upgrade installation to the same directory. Otherwise, the references you are attempting to preserve will be lost. 5. Save all the files in the newly-created LIC /<domain directory>/configs directory to a second temporary directory (for instance, using our example above, create a second temporary directory for copies of the new files called configs_new). 6. Paste your original configs directory and customized files from the first temporary directory (LIC_OLD/ <domain_directory>/configs) back into /LIC/<domain directory>/configs, overwriting the newly installed files. 7. Configure and restart your application server by deploying the war files, as instructed in step 3 of the installation procedure on page 20 of the Installation Guide. 8. If you are upgrading from a pre-1.0 release, make the same configuration changes to the newly created file (using the original file as a reference only). Be careful not to copy over the entire file. 9. Complete the installation instructions. Pay special attention to the sanity testing phase of the installation to confirm that your original configurations are working correctly with the new code. 10. Once you are satisfied that the installation was successful, stop the application server. 11. If you are upgrading from a pre-1.0 release, merge the new configuration files with your existing configuration files, as follows. In the bifaces-config file, examine the bitool managed bean for new properties. Import any changed properties from the newly-created configuration file to your original file. Minimal changes were made to this file; however, your customizations may require confirmation of missing properties in this bean. In the mapxtreme-mapping-faces-config file, no changes have been made to the structure of this file. 12. 5 Understanding the Installation Script The LIC installer uses a command-line script to unpack and install the software. This script accepts all parameters listed in the Parameters for a J2EE Installation table starting on page 18 of the Installation Guide, as well as two additional ones listed below in support of WebSphere 6.1. Parameter Required Description -Dservlet.container.name= <application server name> Identifies to the installer that the application server in use is WebSphere. WebSphere v6.1 conflicts with certain LIC files; if defined, the installer knows to exclude the jsp-api.jar file. This parameter is only used if deploying to WebSphere v6.1. -Dservlet.container.version= <version number> Identifies to the installer that the version of WebSphere in use is v6.1. If defined, the installer knows to exclude the jsp-api.jar file. This parameter is only used if deploying to WebSphere v6.1. Installing the LIC There are three steps involved in installing the LIC with Business Objects on a J2EE environment: Confirm that all prerequisite software is installed and configured (see Pre-Installation Requirements on page 3) Run the installation script to create and deploy the war files Test the LIC with the Tutorial Data provided Note: It is strongly recommended that the LIC be installed with administrator privileges. Installing the LIC on a J2EE Environment To install the LIC v1.0 for Business Objects SP4 on a J2EE environment: 1. From the command line, cd into the XIR2/Install/J2EE/SP4 directory on your LIC CD, which contains the install.bat/install.sh file. 2. Continue the installation by following the instructions provided in the Installation Guide. Testing the Installation Once you have installed the LIC, you should test your installation. This test allows you to confirm that the software installed successfully and works in a simulated data environment, before you progress to using real Business Intelligence reports and maps. You should test the report-to-map capability in Business Objects, as well as Map Manager. For information on testing Map Manager and troubleshooting your installation, see the Location Intelligence Component Installation Guide. Deleting Installation Files Once the installation is complete and you have tested that everything works properly, you can delete the installation files from your system. 6 Technical Notes The following issue is outside the scope of the LIC but still impacts its performance. Mapping Tools Work Inconsistently with Firefox 2.0 In this release of the LIC to support Business Objects XIR2 SP4, some of the toolbar tools such as the Info tool and the Select Within Buffered Line tool do not always work as expected with Firefox 2.0. For example, if you use the Info tool it works correctly the first time, but does not always work correctly or at all in subsequent uses. This issue does not occur when using the LIC v1.0 with Internet Explorer or on the Business Objects XI 3.0 platform. Documentation The following documents are available in PDF format in the /Docs directory of your CD. This is the same document set that was published for the original LIC v1.0 release and is still applicable; however, anything different from these guides is included here in these Release Notes for Business Objects XIR2 SP4. All the documentation provided with your software, as identified below, is also available from the Pitney Bowes MapInfo website.
