2 Page 2 of 5 Question 1 a) The majority of businesses in the European Union are classed as being small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); how is an SME defined? b) Techaisle, the global industry analyst and market research organisation, annually lists the top 10 IT priorities of SMEs; list and describe any 5 and give reasons for their relative order of importance. c) Write a short technical report advising the MD of an SME on the benefits of using cloud computing instead of in-house infrastructure and services. The report should clearly outline the various deployment and delivery models of cloud computing and detail the potential benefits to the company. (11 marks) Question 2 A web development team currently uses OOP PHP as their preferred development language and are considering migrating to the use of PHP frameworks. As a member of this team you are required to write a report for the MD to describe what PHP frameworks are and how their use would benefit the company. The report should contain the following sections: a) A description of the MVC software design architecture used by PHP frameworks (use a block diagram). (6 marks) b) The names of 6 of the most commonly used PHP frameworks. (3 marks) c) A brief description of 6 of the most common features used to compare PHP frameworks. (6 marks) d) The benefits of using PHP frameworks both to the software development team and to the company. e) An outline of framework installation, configuration and testing. (6 marks)

(5 marks) Question 5 a) Web application developers often use the PHP mysqli class to create a database connection object for the purpose of connecting to a remote MySQL database server to issue SQL queries. By writing PHP code segments (not a full script), show how the mysqli class is used to instantiate a connection object named $conn whose methods can be used to insert the data extracted from a web form into a table named customers. Assume the form data has already been extracted from the $_POST global array and resides in the following PHP variables: $firstname, $lastname, $dateofbirth and $ address. b) By writing PHP code segments (not a full script), show the necessary changes to your solution to part b such that the PDO class is used instead of the mysqli class. Your solution should show the use of a PDO prepared statement using either positional or named parameters. (15 marks)

5 Page 5 of 5 Question 6 As a member of a web development team creating a web application for a motor vehicle sales company, you are required to develop and test a class named Vehicle that contains the following attributes and methods: Attributes: make, model, registrationnumber Methods: setmake, getmake, setmodel, getmodel, setregnum, getregnum a) Write the code for a class held in a file named (class.vehicle.php) (14 marks) b) Write the code for a simple test application in a file named (testapp.php). This application should test the operation of all 6 of the Vehicle class s methods. (7 marks) c) Without writing any additional code, explain what a constructor is and how one that can be passed 3 parameters would be useful in the development of the Vehicle class. END OF QUESTIONS
