C. AC & DC Arc Flash Evaluation 1) Increase the Arc flash limitation limit on looking for upstream protection devices The maximum fault contribution levels will be available for users to set. Its default value is 10 and can be increased up to 20 branches in upstream circuit. The user can set this value based on his protection strategy and size of the network and the calculation speed on the computer. This will update short circuit and PDC studies for contribution levels automatically. This setting means every bus/equipment should be protected by a device in at most 20 levels up branches. 32
2) Enhancing the Arc flash calculation wizard based on selected bus This feature will automatically recalculate and show the results of the selected bus. The user can change the selected bus in Show Bus and arc flash engine will automatically calculate and show the results in this window. 3) Arc flash labels should always present System Voltage rather than Load Flow voltage when the SC Calculated by LF pre-fault voltage When the Short Circuit Calculation uses Power Flow Voltage as pre-fault voltage, then all calculations will be based on Load flow voltage as a pre-fault and the Arc-Flash Engine would also use this voltage which might be different from system voltage. To keep the system data consistent, Arc-Flash labels should present System Voltage rather than what the user considered in SC calculations. Labels are always present in System Voltage but Arc-Flash report still will show LF voltage as a pre-fault voltage. 33
34
D. Harmonic Analysis 1) Added on/off option for harmonic sources This feature creates new option for the user to be able turn on/off harmonic sources in a study. 2) Apply scenarios to control on/off for harmonic sources In addition we applied this option to control harmonic sources on/off feature by Scenarios. 35
E. AC/DC Power Flow 1) Enhanced the Calculation of DC Current Control in Rectifiers The DC load flow now includes the DC current control order with Zero Amp for the Rated Current. In addition, a Warnings message will be generated if Rectifier DC Voltage Control Order Is set to Zero after running DC Load Flow Report Manager\Log File : Bus Source < REC1>: System Voltage is applied for DC Control Voltage Order due to it <=0! 36
2) Sample to simulate AC-DC network for both SC and Load Flow Service Pack 2 also includes new symbols and settings to ease the modelling of integrated AC-DC networks. This section will present how to model this kind of network with a simple example as shown below for a typical AC/DC configuration. The sample file can be accessed from: C:\DesignBase5\Sampels\ACDCLF\AC_DC_Converter.epr Modelling in DesignBase: 37
- DC-AC Device ( Inverter) As shown in the drawing OCC-4WI is an inverter with two components connected to the DC and AC networks separately. The inverter s DC Component which is connected to the DC side should be dragged and dropped from the DC catalog. This component can be controlled as DC Current Control or DC Voltage Control which can be set in its Load Flow tab page. It works as a bus for Short Circuit studies. The AC Component works as a Source on the AC Side and it should be dragged from AC catalog by looking for Inverter symbol. The AC component should have the same name as the DC component: 38
For Short Circuit studies this should be set as a Current Limitation Source which can be calculated from Rated Parameters. For load flow the PG should be set to zero and PL should be non-zero in order to pass the DC control from DC component. (PG=0, PL 0) - AC-DC Bi-Directional Converter As shown in the main drawing OCC-GTI is a bidirectional converter: The bi-directional model includes two different modes: a rectifier mode and an inverter mode. Each mode is modeled by different components for AC and DC sides separately and should be activated individually by defining the two different scenarios. The inverter mode includes the same components which are described above by using the same name for both components. (in this example the AC Source and it is deactivated in the current scenario were used) In the rectifier mode the DC side is modeled with a DC Source (rectifier) and the AC side is modeled with an AC load which can be dragged from AC catalog by looking for Rectifier Symbol. Both components should have the same name. ( This example used DC Source ). The AC component is a Bus for Short Circuit Studies. For load flow study its kvar should be 39
set at Zero in order to accept the current control results from DC side. The DC component is also set as a DC Source on the DC Side and can be dragged from the DC catalog by looking for the DC source. For Short Circuit Studies, its SC Current can be limited and is estimated by AC impedance from the Rated Parameters per IEC61660 standard. For load flow standards the DC Control should be set either to Current Control or Voltage Control and by using the same name as the AC side Rectifier Load it can pass the control parameters to the AC side. 40
- DC-DC Converter As shown in the drawing OCC-DCDC is a DC converter with two components connected with LV=120 V and HV=240V sides. A DC-DC converter can be dragged from the DC catalog. There is no meaningful data for the branch since the two voltage networks are isolated from each other in the real world. 41
The HV Source can be dragged just by selecting a DC Source from the DC catalog. Its Short Circuit Current can be limited by using an estimation of AC impedance from the Rated Parameters per IEC61660 standard. For the load flow it should be set to DC Current Control with zero Amps in order to pass the control from LV to HV Select Current Control and set Order =0 to transfer the power from LV side. 42
- Scenarios need to be defined: What is New in Paladin DesignBase 5.0 SP2 Scenarios can be used to switch the status of the bidirectional converter. Rectifier Mode AC Source is switched off and DC Source is activated to pass the power from AC to DC. Inverter Mode DC Source is switched off and AC Source is activated to pass the power from DC to AC. 43
F. Ground Grid Program 1) Undo/Redo functions A user can apply the Undo/Redo function anytime by selecting it via the Edit menu or simply by using key buttons to step forward and back all changes; Ctrl + Z for Undo, and Ctrl + Shift +Z for Redo. 2) Lock and Unlock functions In addition, the user can select single or multiple rods and lock them in order to keep them in place and not be able to move or edit afterwards. The user cannot reselect the locked elements. User can also use the unlock feature in the same way or can use it from the menu Edit/Unlock All to unlock all grid elements and adjust their position and properties as normal. 44
3) Spreadsheet view of grid elements New buttons for adding new elements and also a selection option either from spreadsheet selection or from diagram have also been added. 45
G. Advanced Power Cable Ampacity Cable Ampacity Program is enhanced to show diagram units now and it can be changed through the main windows rather than the project setting dialog. 46
H. Advanced Transient Stability 1) New features for results of general-models/avr/governor/pv models In the new version of the advanced transient software, the limit of the variable shown in the results for general-models/avr/governor/pv models has been increased by up to 44 signals. User can select View Graphical Results and under the UDM tab (new feature to show user defined model variables) he/she will be able to select desired number of signals to be plotted. 47
2) Relating General Models on/off based on device status in different scenarios To prevent the software from creating an error message when its associated bus/branch is out of service in the single line (in current scenario), an automatic updatable on/off status has been added: 48
3) New features for simulation windows What is New in Paladin DesignBase 5.0 SP2 In order to enhance the transient simulation windows, an Event Log window has been added to the main windows to show a list of events that happen during simulation based on View Text Results. In addition, the main windows curves have been generated by more decimal values to show a smoother curve for voltage PU and frequency values: 49
