1 Add Blocks to a Catalogue Before you begin The following files are needed for this Let Me Try exercise: c5tut03.dwg c5tut02.pcat You have several options available for accessing the file(s): 1. You can access the file(s) in the attachment window of this pdf. To do this: Click on the paper clip icon of this pdf to open the attachments window. You will see a list of the files for this exercise. Click on the file name. The file will open in the appropriate program, if the program is installed on your computer. Once it has opened, go under File Save As and save the file to your desktop. 2. To access the files from your dataset: If you haven t downloaded the dataset yet, open your course homepage. Click on the link: Click here to download the dataset for this course. Save the course dataset to the C:/ drive on your computer. 3. Options for opening a Plant 3D project file(s): Begin by dragging it directly into the application or by using the Open command from the Application menu. Double click an Plant 3D file, but be aware that if you have more than one version of Plant 3D installed on your computer, the file will open in the last version of Plant 3D you used. Please ensure you save all your projects to your computer as directed by the Let Me Try instructions.

2 In this exercise, you will use the c5tut03.dwg file. The file contains the 3D model of a valve body and actuators, as shown in the image below. You will add these blocks to the catalog. The parameters of the parts are given next. Hand Wheel Actuator Parameters Long Description (Family): Hand Wheel Long Description: CUSTOM HAND WHEEL, H=36, W=24 Short Description: Custom Hand Wheel Operator Type: Manual Actuator Type: Wheel Actuator Height: 36 Actuator Width: 24 Diaphragm Actuator Parameters Long Description (Family): Diaphragm Long Description (Size): CUSTOM HAND WHEEL, H=30, W=16 Short Description: Custom Diaphragm Operator Type: Pneumatic Actuator Type: Diaphragm Actuator Height: 30 Actuator Width: 16

3 Valve Parameters Long Desciption(Family): Globe Valve, 150 LB, ASME B16.10 Operator Size: Diaphragm, H=30, W=16 Matching Pipe Outer Diameter: 4.5 Valve Port Properties Port Diameter: 4 Nominal Unit: Inch End Type: BV Flange Standard: ASME B16.10 Gasket Standard: ASME B16.10 Facing: RF Pressure Class: 150 Converting AutoCAD Blocks to Plant 3D Components In this section, you will convert blocks of a valve body and actuators into AutoCAD Plant 3D components, refer to the image below.

4 1. Open the c5tut03.dwg file in AutoCAD Plant 3D Choose the Create Block tool from the Block definition panel in the Insert tab and create three separate blocks and name them as Valve Body, Diaphragm, and Hand Wheel. The insertion points of these blocks are shown in the image below. 3. Invoke the PLANTPARTCONVERT command and select the valve body block; the prompt Select a port operation [Add/Delete/Move/eXit] will be displayed at the Command prompt. Make sure that the Ortho Mode and Dynamic Input buttons are chosen in the status bar. 4. Choose the Add option from the contextual menu; you are prompted to specify the port location.

5 5. Specify the port location on the block, as shown in the image below; you are prompted to specify the port direction. Move the cursor in the x-direction and left-click; a contextual menu is displayed. Choose the Accept option from the contextual menu; the port is created, as shown in the image below. Also, the Select a port operation prompt is displayed. 6. Choose the Add option from the contextual menu and create another port, as shown in the image below. Next, choose the exit option to get out of the command.

6 Note: Choose the Save tool everytime you use exit option. 7. To convert actuators into a piping component, invoke the PLANTPARTCONVERT command. Now, select the hand wheel actuator block and then choose the exit command from the contextual menu. Now, choose the Save tool. Similarly, convert diaphragm actuator block into piping component. Note that you should not add ports to actuators. 8. Save the file. Opening the Catalog and Adding Actuators to It 1. Start AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor and open the c5tut02.pcat file from the Welcome screen. Alternatively, choose File > Open Catalog from the main menu; the Open dialog box is displayed. Browse to your course dataset and open the c5tut02.pcat file. 2. Choose the Catalog Editor tab and then choose the Create New Component button; the Create New Component dialog box is displayed. 3. Select the Custom - AutoCAD DWG Block based graphics radio button from the Graphics area. 4. Select Actuators from the Component Category drop-down list and specify other options, as shown in the image below.

7 5. Enter Custom Hand Wheel in the Short Description edit box. Also, enter Manual and Wheel in the Operator type and Actuator type edit boxes, respectively. 6. Choose the Create button from the dialog box; the new entry is created in the catalog. Now, you need to enter the long description (family) and size description. 7. Enter Hand Wheel in the Long Description (Family) edit box and then choose the Sizes tab; various options to specify the size parameters are displayed. 8. Choose the Select Model button from the preview window located beside the size list; the Open dialog box is displayed. 9. Browse to the location your course dataset and open the file c5tut03.dwg; the Select Block Definition dialog box is displayed. 10. Select Hand Wheel from the Select Block Definition dialog box and choose the OK button; the block is displayed in the preview window. 11. Enter the values in the Piping Component Properties area, as shown in the image below. Next, choose the Save to Catalog button; the actuator is saved to the catalog. Next, you need to add the cone actuator to the catalog.

8 12. Invoke the Create New Component dialog box and select the Custom - AutoCAD DWG Block based graphics radio button in the General Properties area. 13. Select Actuators from the Component Category drop-down list and then specify other options in the Basic Part Family Information area, as shown in the image below. 14. Enter Custom Diaphragm in the Short Description edit box. Also, enter Pneumatic and Diaphragm in the Operator type and Actuator type edit boxes, respectively. 15. Choose the Create button from the dialog box; the new entry is created in the catalog. Now, you need to enter the long description (family) and size description. 16. Enter Diaphragm in the Long Description (Family) edit box and choose the Sizes tab; vatious options to specify the size parameters are displayed. 17. Choose the Select Model button from the preview window located beside the size list; the Open dialog box is displayed. 18. Browse to your course dataset and open the file c5tut03.dwg; the Select Block Definition dialog box is displayed. 19. Select Diaphragm from the list in the Select Block Definition dialog box and then choose the OK button; the block will be displayed in the preview window.

9 20. Enter the values in the Piping Component Properties area, as shown in the image below. Next, choose the Save to Catalog button; the actuator is saved to the catalog. Adding a Valve to the Catalog 1. Choose the Catalog Editor tab and then choose the Create New Component button; the Create New Component dialog box is displayed. 2. Select the Custom - AutoCAD DWG Block based graphics radio button from the Graphics area. 3. Select Valves from the Component Category drop-down list. 4. Select ValveBody from the Component drop-down list. 5. Enter Globe Valve in the Short Description edit box and select BV from the Primary End Type drop-down list. 6. Select 2 in the Number of Connection Ports drop-down list and select the Imperial radio button from the Units area. 7. Specify 4 in the Size From and To drop-down lists.

10 8. Choose the Create button; the Create Component dialog box is closed and the Piping Component Editor pane is displayed. 9. Specify the port properties in Connection Port Properties area of the General Properties tab, as shown in the image below. 10. Enter Globe Valve, 150 LB, ASME B16.10 and ASME B16.10 in the Long description (Family) and Compatable Standard edit boxes, respectively, in the Piping Component Properties area. 11. Choose the Sizes tab and remove all other sizes except size 4 from the Size list. 12. Choose the Select Model button from the preview window located beside the size list; the Open dialog box is displayed. 13. Browse to the location your course dataset and open the file c5tut03.dwg; the Select Block Definition dialog box is displayed.

11 14. Select Valve body from the list in the Select Block Definition dialog box and choose the OK button; the block will be displayed in the preview window. 15. Enter 4.5 in the Matching Pipe OD edit box and select the All Ports have the same properties check box from the Component Port Properties area. 16. Enter Globe Valve, 150 LB, ASME B16.10 in the Long Description (Size) edit box and 24 in the Length edit box. 17. Choose the Save to Catalog button; the component is saved to the catalog. Assigning Operators to the Valve 1. Choose the General Properties tab and then choose the Edit Operator Assignments button which is located below the Piping Component Properties area; the Valve Operator Mapping dialog box is displayed. 2. In this dialog box, choose the Add button located below the Operator Assignments table; a new row is added to the table. 3. Select Diaphragm, H=30, W=16 from the drop-down list in the Operator (Size) column, refer to the image below.

12 4. Choose the Add button to add a new row to the table. Next, select Wheel, H=36, W=24 from the Operator (Size) column; the diaphragm actuator is assigned to the gate valve. 5. Choose the OK button from the Valve Operator Mapping dialog box; the dialog box is closed. 6. Choose the Save to Catalog button from the Piping Component Editor; the valve is saved in the catalog. Saving the Spec File 1. Choose File > Save from the menu bar; the catalog is saved. 2. Choose File > Exit from the menu bar to close the application.
