The application can also work as an Uninstaller that removes all avoidable applications, widgets and plug-inbefore removing them from the hard drive. 4 Why SpeedUp Mac? Enhances Mac System Performance Removing unwanted files from system boot Volume provides free space and increases performance. SpeedUp Now feature of SpeedUp Mac helps you to recover drive space by deleting unused large files, duplicate files, unusable part of universal binaries, and many more. Generates Free Space in Boot and other volumes SpeedUpp Mac allows you to select a volume and delete unnecessary files from them. In a Mac with a single volume, the boot volume is automatically selected andd you can remove the unnecessary files from it and in multiple volume Mac, Custom Scan (Other Volumes) option shows all the other volumes including attached external storage devices, if any. Removal of unwanted files will generate free space in the volumes. Uninstalls Applications Uninstaller allows you to uninstall unused applications by drag and drop method. Uninstaller in SpeedUp Mac lists all the downloaded widgets and helps you to easily get rid of the unnecessary widgets. Uninstalls Plugins Plug-ins are a set of software components that adds specificc capabilities to a larger software application. These add-ons may be automatically downloaded without your knowledge and take up drive space. Removing plugins will provide free space. So it is advisablee to delete plug-ins. Uninstaller scans entire drive and list out all plug-ins, thus enabling you to delete the unwanted ones. Removes Login Items When you login to your computer, few items start automatically. 7 Index Installation Procedure Before installing the software, ensure that your system meets minimum system requirements. Minimum System Requirements Operating System: Snow Leopard 10.6 up to Mavericks 10.9 and above Memory: 1 GB RAM Hard Disk: 55 MB of free space Steps to install SpeedUp Mac To install SpeedUp Mac, follow these steps Unpack SpeedUpMac.dmg.zip file. Decompressing the zip file and double click the dmg file. This step will mount a virtual volume - SpeedUpMac. Double-click SpeedUpMac volume to open SpeedUp Mac application window. Drag SpeedUp Mac file to the Applications folder. To launch the software, double click on SpeedUp Mac file in Applications folder. This displays License Agreement. If user accepts the License Agreement, then the software is launched otherwise, it terminates. To remove the software, drag and drop the SpeedUpMac file from Applications folder to Trash.

Once the order is confirmed, a pre-paid registration key will be sent through , which would be required to register the software. Register SpeedUp Mac To Register SpeedUp Mac 1. On the Tools menu, click Register. Registration window is displayed. 2. Do one of the following: If you have purchased the product and received registration key, a. Select 'I have a key to register the product' option. Click OK. b. In the Registration Key box, type the key. Click OK. If you have to purchase the product, o Select 'I don't have a key to register the product'. Click OK, to purchase the product. Alternatively, when you try to remove any Large, Duplicate, Universal Binaries etc., or uninstall any applications, widgets or plug-ins using the demo version, SpeedUp Mac Registration window is displayed. Follow Step 2 mentioned above to register.

9 Index How to Update? Update feature available in SpeedUp Mac allows you to check and install the latest updates for the application. This will help you to keep your application up-to-date. If updates are available for the product, update wizard pops up while you run SpeedUp Mac. Otherwise, you can use Updates under Preferences -> Scheduler on the SpeedUp Mac menu. To update SpeedUp Mac, do one of the following: To check automatically: 1. Run SpeedUp Mac, Update screen is displayed along with the main user interface. 2. To download the latest version, click Update button. It may take few seconds to minutes to download the files. Once completed, 'Update successfully installed' message appears. 3. Click OK. Click Cancel to check for updates manually. To check manully: 1. Run SpeedUp Mac. 2. On the SpeedUp Mac menu, click Preferences option. 3. Click Scheduler tab in the Preferences screen. Click Check for updates now option. 4. If updates are available, Update screen is displayed. Follow the next step. Else, if no updates are available, a message that 'No updates are available' is displayed. 5. Click Update button to downloadd the latest version. It may take few seconds to minutes to download the files. After completion, 'Update successfully installed' message appears. Click OK. After latest updates are installed, restart SpeedUp Mac application. Update feature is available only after you purchasee and register the software.

15 Index Tabs and Buttons Tabs General This tab is located on the Preferences screen of SpeedUpp Mac. Click it to select files that will be searched while scanning for SpeedUp Now operation. Folder Search This tab is located on the Preferences screen of SpeedUpp Mac. Click it to define the folder that will be scanned for Universal Binaries and language resources files during SpeedUpp Now operation. Devices This tab is located on the Preferences screen of SpeedUp Mac. Click it to set rules for cleaning trashes and junk files in attached external storage devices. Scheduler This tab is located on the Preferences screen of SpeedUp Mac. Click it to schedule update and automatic launch scanning activity. 18 SpeedUp Now for Single Volume Mac You can use SpeedUp Now feature on a single volume Mac to find and removee unnecessary old large files, duplicate files, universal binaries, cache files, language files etc. from boot drive to improve performance. To perform a completee scan and remove unwanted files/system junks: 1. Run SpeedUpp Mac. 2. On the main screen, click SpeedUp Now icon. 3. Set Preferences for SpeedUp Now. Click OK to confirm. If Preferences are not set, scanning will be performed on the basis of previously set preferences. 4. A scan is performed for all the Large files, Duplicate files, Universal Binaries, Cache files, Trashes and Left Overs, Language files, Log files, etc. according to the settings done in Preferences. Scan screen for Mac's with single volume 5. Scan result will show all the specified files, their file size and a Finder option that can be used to open a file. You can use the checkbox to select/unselect files. Scan result also provides information about how much drive space will be freed on deleting the files. 6. A message box with Show Scan Result and SpeedUp Now button is displayed.

19 Index 7. Click Show Scan Result to view the result or Click SpeedUp Now button to remove the unwanted scanned files. You get a warning message for backing up important data. Select the equired options. 8. Click Proceed button to start deleting the selected files. You can Stop the application anytime and change the Preference settings. Use Rescan to run the application with changed preferences. option Delete and create Zip archive of selected files at specified destination and Create alias of all selected files at source location options are available for large files. 20 SpeedUp Now for Multiple Volume Mac You can use SpeedUp Now feature for a multiple volume Mac to delete unnecessary cache files, large files, duplicate files, universal binaries, language filess etc. SpeedUp Mac provides an option to quickly find and deletee the unwanted files from bootable (Recommended Scan) as well as non bootable (Custom Scan) volumes, freeing up memory space. To perform a scan on a volume and remove unwanted files from it, follow the steps given below: 1. Run SpeedUpp Mac. 2. On the main screen, click SpeedUp Now icon. 3. On select volume screen there are two scanning options, Recommended Scan (for scanning bootable volume) and Custom Scan (for scanning non bootable / other volumes). Opt for any one of the scanning options. If you opt for Recommended Scan (which is selected by default), only the boot volume will be enabled from the list of volumes in the Select Source Volume pane. Recommended Scan screen Or, in case you opt for Custom Scan, all the non boot volumes will be enabled from the list of volumes in the Select Source Volume pane and you need to select any one volume from it. You can also select a volume from the volume drop-down list.

22 Remove Login Items When you login to your computer, few items are started automatically. SpeedUp Mac enables you to remove login items and hence decrease booting time. This enhances the performance of your Mac. To remove login items: 1. Run SpeedUpp Mac. 2. On the main screen, click SpeedUp Now icon. 3. Click Login Items icon visible on the toolbar. 4. Select the corresponding checkbox from the list of login items displayed in the Remove Login Items screen. 5. Click Remove button. All the applications that you selected, will be removed from login items list.

23 Index Uninstall using Uninstaller Uninstall Dragged App Applications Widgets Plug-ins

24 Uninstall Dragged App You can uninstall your applications by using the Uninstalled Dragged Appp feature of the application. You need to just drag and drop any application/app, folder (containing an App) or a volume in the application area. All the applications in the dropped folder can be uninstalled. To uninstall an application: 1. Run SpeedUpp Mac. 2. On the main screen, click SpeedUp Now icon. 3. Now the Uninstaller icon is present on all the screens. 4. Click Uninstaller. You can see four tabs in the rightt pane. By default, Uninstall Dragged App tab is selected. 5. You need to drag the application from anywhere in the system and drop to the Uninstall Dragged App area. As soon as you drop the application, SpeedUp Mac starts scanning for the application and its supported files. 6. After scan, the result showss the application and all files related to it. 7. Select the files which you want to uninstall or click Select All/Unselect All button to check/uncheckk all the searched files. A warning message is displayed. 8. Check the desired files and click Uninstall Now. 9. Click OK button. "Uninstallation Complete" message is displayed.

25 Index In addition, you can drag and drop volumes to the uninstaller area. Entire volume is scanned and all the applications in it appear in tree form. You can select the desire application and uninstall it from the volume freeing up volume space. If you want to exit the uninstaller section, click on Close button.

26 Applications Applications option of SpeedUp Mac allows you to uninstall an App from the Applications folder of Mac OS. To uninstall applications directly from Applications tab, follow the steps given below: 1. Run SpeedUpp Mac. 2. On the main screen, click SpeedUp Now icon. 3. Now the Uninstaller icon is present on all the screens. 4. Click Uninstaller. You can see four tabs in the right pane. Click on Applications tab from the right pane. This will start the scanning of the Applications folder and display all apps from it. 5. Check the desired application and click Search Associated Files button. Extensive search finds all the supported files of the selected application. 6. Click Select All/Unselect All button to check/unchec ck all the searched files. 7. Click Uninstall Now. A warning message is displayed. 8. Click OK button. "Uninstallation Complete" message is displayed. If you want to exit the uninstaller section, click on Close button.

27 Index Widgets You can use Widgets tab to uninstall the widgets stored in thee widgets folder of Mac OS. To uninstall Widgets, follow the steps given below: 1. Run SpeedUpp Mac. 2. On the main screen, click SpeedUp Now icon. 3. Now the Uninstaller icon is present on all the screens. 4. Click Uninstaller. You can see four tabs in the rightt pane. Click on Widgets tab from the right pane. This will start scanning for widgets installed in Mac OS and will display them. 5. Select the desired Widgets or click Select All/Unselect All button to check/uncheck all the widgets. 6. Click Uninstall Now. A warning message is displayed. 7. Click OK button. "Uninstallation Complete" message is displayed. If you want to exit the uninstaller section, click on Close button.

28 Plug-ins SpeedUp Mac helps in removing plug-ins from the system. To uninstall Plug-ins, follow the steps given below: 1. Run SpeedUpp Mac. 2. On the main screen, click SpeedUp Now icon. 3. Now the Uninstaller icon is present on all the screens. 4. Click Uninstaller. You can see four tabs in the rightt pane. Click on Plug-ins tab from the right pane. This will start scanning for Plug-ins installed in Mac OS and will display them. 5. Select the desired Plug-ins or click Select All/Unselect All button to check/uncheck all the plug- ins. 6. Click Uninstall Now. A warning message is displayed. 7. Click OK button. "Uninstallation Complete" message is displayed. If you want to exit the uninstaller section, click on Close button.

29 Index Set SpeedU p Mac Preferences Preferences can be set to run SpeedUp Mac according to personal requirement. To set the preferences follow these steps. 1. Run SpeedUpp Mac. 2. Click SpeedUpp Mac in the toolbar. Click Preferencess option in the menu. 3. To change General preferences, click General tab. 4. To change Folder search preferences, click Folder Search tab. 5. To change Language files preferences, click Languages tab. 6. To Apply filter preferences, click Files tab. 7. To change Removable memory devices cleanup preferences, click Devices tab. 8. To change Advanced preferences, click Advanced tab. 9. To change Scheduler preferences, click Scheduler tab. 10. To change Ignore List preferences, click Ignore List tab.

30 General In General preferences, you can specify the files that shouldd be searched by the SpeedUp Mac during scan. These files are not used, unnecessarily acquire memory and slow down the system. Separate general preferences are set for SpeedUp Now activities in thee application. To apply General preferences, 1. Run SpeedUp Mac. 2. Click SpeedUp Mac in the menu bar. Click Preferences option in the menu. General Preferences 3. Click General tab. 4. To set general preferences for Recommended Scan, in SpeedUp Now section: Check / Uncheck options available in Caches. Check / Uncheck options available in Logs. Check / Uncheck options available in Files. 5. To set general preferences for Custom Scan, check / uncheck options available in Files option. 6. Click OK to save Preferences settings.

31 Index Folder Search Folders that will be scanned during scanning process can be specified in the application. This reduces the time required in the search operation. SpeedUpp Mac provides Folder Search preferences to specify the folders that will be scanned to find universal binaries and language resources files. You can specify different folders for SpeedUp Now activities. To apply Folder Search preferences, 1. Run SpeedUp Mac. 2. Select Preferences option from SpeedUp Mac menu. 3. Click Folder Search tab. 4. To specify folders to be searched for SpeedUp Now process, Folder Search Options For universal binaries files: Click [+]/[-] in the Folder to be searched for Universal binaries list to add/removee folders. For Language resources files: Click [+]/[-] in the Folder to be searched for language Resources list to add/ /remove folders. If no folder is specified, Applications

32 folder of boot Volume is scanned. 5. To specify folders to be searched for Custom Scan process, For universal binaries files: Click [+]/[-] n the Folder to be searched for Universal binaries list to add/ /remove folders. For Language resources files: Click [+]/[-] in the Folder to be searched for language Resources list to add/remove folders. If no folder is specified, selected Volume will be scanned. 6. Click OK to save Preferences settings.

33 Index Languages SpeedUpp Mac provides an advanced Languages option for searching language files. Various languages in alphabetical order are shown. You can check the desiredd languages from the list for scanning. The scan will find all the applications with selected languages. From the scan result you can remove the applications along with the language files. To delete thesee language files, preferences can be set in SpeedUpp Mac. To apply language l files preferences: 1. Run SpeedUp Mac. 2. Click SpeedUpp Mac in the menu bar. Click Preferences option in the menu. 3. Click Languages tab. A list of language files is shown. 4. Under the Select Language files to scan for frame, check the language files that are to be removed. Languages Preferences 5. You can set style to view scan result as group by software and group by language. 6. Click OK to save the preferences. Make sure that you have checked only the unnecessary language files.

34 Files An advanced Files Filter Settings option is provided to set filter, i.e. to include or excludee desired file types while removing unwanted files. For example, if you want to search all files except the graphic files, you need to add graphic file type to the filter list and click 'Scan excluding these files'. The scan result will not show these excluded graphic files. Filter allows you to select files on the basis of extensions. You can include, exclude files by applying filter in case of large files and duplicate files. Filter settings option also allows you to specify file size or period of time the files has not been accessed. You can change the parameters as per your requirement. If you check the option 'Remember these values for all sessions', then the specified settings will be applied whenever you run the process. While searching for large files, you can specify both parameters - file size and period of time the file has not been used, but for duplicate files only files size can be specified. To apply Filter preferences, 1. Run SpeedUp Mac. 2. Click SpeedUp Mac in the menu bar. Click Preferences option in the menu. 3. Click Files tab. 4. To apply filter for large files, click Large Files tab. By default, this tab is active. A list of extensions categorized according to file types is available in drop-down box. 5. Select a group from Enter Filter Basis listbox. Filter Options for Large Files 6. Click [+] button. All extensions under that group will be listed in the box.

35 Index 7. You can also add a file extension other than the availablee extensions.. Clear the selected items in the listbox and then type the extension prefixed by *. (for example *.txt) in the Enter File Basis listbox. Click [+] button. 8. To remove any file extension from the list, select it and click [-] button. Files that are having the same extension will not be included while scanning. 9. Select Scan for these files only to scan the files with listed file extensions. 10. Select Scan excluding these files to exclude files with listed file extensions from scanning. 11. In the right pane of application, specify size in Find large file(s) ) with size greater than box. Scanning will be done for files greater than the specified size. 12. Specify number of day/month/year in Find Large file(s) not accessed in last box. Large file not accessed during specified number of day/month/year will be includedd in scanning. 13. To apply filter for duplicate files, click Duplicate Files tab. Repeat Steps In the right pane of application, specify size in Find Duplicate file(s) with size greater than box. Scanning will be done for files greater than the specified size. Filter Options for Duplicate Files 14. Select scan type option, that is, either Quick scan or Strict scan to scan for duplicate files. 15. Select Do not scan Applications checkbox if you do not want to scan applications. 16. Click OK to save preferences.

36 After the filter is applied, you can click Preferences option and click Remove File Filter under Files tab to remove an already existing filter.

37 Index When all files (including large and duplicate files) are selected for cleanup, File Cleanup Options screen (as shown above) is displayed. Choose from the available options and click Proceed.

38 Devices Removable storage devices may have junk files stored in them. These files can be deleted to clean the devices at the time they are plugged into the system. SpeedUp Mac gives Devices preferences option that can be saved to clean the device at the time of its attachment. To set preferences for devices: 1. Run SpeedUp Mac. 2. Click SpeedUpp Mac in the menu bar. Click Preferences option in the menu. 3. Click Devices tab. 4. Check Enable automatic trash cleanup option to delete.trashes folder from external storage device automatically. Devices Preferences 5. Check Enable automatic Mac OS service junk cleanup option to deletee the junk files created by Mac OS..DS_Store files and Spotlight- V100 folders are deleted. 6. Check Enable automatic Windows service junk cleanup option to delete Thumbs.db file and RECYCLED folder. 7. Click OK to save Preferences settings.

39 Index Advanced Settings SpeedUpp Mac provides advanced settings for sound on event, automatic uninstaller, and trash monitor. Automatic Uninstaller feature provided by SpeedUp Macc will launch SpeedUp Mac and pop up a message whenever you drag an application to trash folder. To set advanced settings: 1. Run SpeedUp Mac. 2. 43 Index Ignore List Ignore List contains a list of applications whose universal binary files will not be included in the scan operation of SpeedUpp Mac. You can add new applications inn the default list. The added application can be removed later from the list but no application can be removed from the default list supplied by the application. To add new application in the 'Excluded Applications' list 1. Run SpeedUp Mac. 2. Click SpeedUp Mac in the menu bar. Click Preferences option in the menu. 3. Click Ignore List tab. 4. Click on [+] icon located at the right-bottom of the list. 5. Applications folder will be opened. Select the required application and click Open button. 6. Click OK button.
