2 Quick Edit Mode Quick Edit mode is useful because changes can be made to your menu directly from a tablet or terminal. Since Toast is a cloud-based system, any changes made on one device will appear on all other devices in the restaurant as well as in the back-end. In Quick Edit mode you can then make aesthetic changes, as well as changes to price, inventory, and name. Info Having difficulties accessing Quick Edit? Make sure that your menu is up-to-date on the back-end and any changes made to your menus have been published to your devices Entering Quick Edit mode requires manager permissions, so make sure that you're logged in using a manager passcode. Steps to Access Quick Edit mode There are steps to access Quick Edit mode. Tap and hold down your finger on any menu item. Select OK when prompted to enter Quick Edit mode. What can you do in Quick Edit mode? Add: New Items & Modifier Options, Existing Items & Modifier Options Delete: Items & Modifier Options Arrange: Items & Modifier Options Change Price: Items and Modifier Options Change Button Color Change Name & POS Name: Menus, Groups, Subgroups, Items, Modifier Groups, Modifier Options Inventory: Set in stock/out of stock/ how much stock left of Item & Modifier Options SKU: Add to Items & Modifier Options What can t you do? Add: New or existing Menus, Groups, Subgroups, Modifier Groups Delete: Menus, Groups, Subgroups, Modifier Groups Arrange: Menus, Groups, Subgroups, Modifier Groups Any changes that cannot be made in Quick Edit Mode can be made from Toast's back-end. 3 Menus Menus are the largest section of the menu hierarchy and contain all smaller menu components. Menus are configured based on the physical menus a restaurant might have. For example, Lunch Menu, Dinner Menu, Bar Menu, etc. Adding a New Menu In Toast's back-end, select Menus under the Menu section. Once created and saved, the menus can be selected, opening up the next level of the hierarchy. Note Adding new menus can only be done in Toast s back-end, it cannot be done in Quick Edit mode. Select the +Add button, then enter the name of the menu in the text field. Save and publish changes. Toast Training Adding a New Menu

4 Groups Menus are divided into groups. For example, a FOOD menu may be split into Appetizers, Entrees, Sides, and Desserts. Adding a New Group Select the menu you would like to add groups to. In this example, we will open the FOOD menu. There may be a time when you need to add another group to your menu. For example, you ve added specials. Adding new groups can only be done in Toast s back-end, it cannot be done in Quick Edit. Note Adding new menus can only be done in Toast s back-end, it cannot be done in Quick Edit mode. Select the +Add button under the Groups section, then enter the name of the group in the text field. Save and publish when complete. Toast Training Adding a New Group

5 Items Menu items are what customers will be ordering. They are things like a salad or an ice cream. Toast s Back-end Toast s back-end can be accessed by logging into on a computer or mobile device. Select sign-in in the top right corner and enter your login information. Adding New Items Adding New Items in Toast s Back-end Adding New Items in Quick Edit Mode Start by clicking the menu that you would like the item to be located under. Select the + box. Quick Edit Mode Quick Edit mode can be accessed on a tablet or terminal. To enter this mode, simply tap and hold down your finger on any menu item. Select OK when prompted to enter Quick Edit mode. Click the group that you would like to contain the item. Select New Item Info After menus and groups have been created, items can be added inside of those groups. Select the +Add button under Items to create a new item. Enter the name and the price in the text field. Be sure to save and publish when finished. 4 Add the name and price. 6 Changing Item Price Changing the price of an item is done in Toast s back-end, Quick Edit mode or Price Editor. We ll cover the first two methods in this guide. Changing Item Price in Toast s Back-end Changing Item Price in Quick Edit Mode Go to the group or item view. Hold your finger down on the item you would like to change. Click on the price text field. Enter the new price, then save and publish your changes. In the Quick Edit screen, enter the new price in the text field. Save when you re finished. Toast Training Changing Item Price 5

7 Adding a New Modifier Group Modifier Groups can be applied to three levels: the item, group, and subgroup level. There are 8 steps to adding new modifier groups. Navigate to Menus under the Menu. 4 Scroll down to the modifiers section. Select the +Add button. Add the name of the Modifier Group into the text field. Be sure to save your changes. Item Level Modifier Groups applied at the item level means that the group is only added to that item, not the rest of the group. For example, a Caesar Salad needs an item level modifier so that servers can remove modifiers that are specific only to that salad. Group/Subgroup Level Modifier Groups applied at the group level means that it is a parent modifier group for all items contained in that group. Groups and subgroups function similiarly, so they re grouped together. Select the menu that contains the item or group where you d like to add a modifier. 5 Select the newly created modifier group. It will be blue after saving. For example: There is a Modifier Group titled Sandwich Add Ons that will need to be attached to all items in the Sandwich Group. Select the group that contains the item. In this example we ll add a group-level modifier. 6 Add the modifier options by selecting the group. Scroll down to the options section and add options using the +Add button. 8 Existing Modifier Group A modifier group that has already been created may be used again/added to another item. For example, you add a new item to the menu (Steak Tips) and you d like to add the same Temperature group that was used on the other steaks. Adding Existing Modifier Groups In the back-end of Toast, go to the Steak Tips item by either using the search bar in the top right corner or by clicking the Menu>Group>Item. Select the drop-down arrow to the right of the +Add button and select Existing Groups from the drop-down list. Note A new screen will pop-up. Search for the modifier group, select it, then press Select. Be sure to save and publish when complete. Toast Training Adding Existing Modifier Groups 7

9 Ordering of Modifiers You may want modifier groups to appear in order of importance or in the order that the server asks the customer. Info To understand ordering of modifiers, it s important to keep in mind the levels that modifier groups can be applied to: the item level, the group level, and the subgroup level. If you have a group level modifier and an item level modifier, all modifier groups will appear, but the group level modifier groups will show first in the order by default. There are two ways to edit the order of modifier groups. It can be done by dragging and dropping modifier groups under items or groups in the back-end of Toast, but it is recommended that Advanced Properties is used. Steps There are 4 steps in Modifier Ordering Priority in Advanced Properties. 4 Navigate to Advanced Properties under the Menu section of Toast s back-end. Select Modifier Ordering Priority from the Show/Hide drop-down list. Expand out each section until you can see the modifier groups. Enter the order in the Order Priority section. The lower the number, the higher its priority. For example, a modifier group labeled would appear first on your devices. If you don't enter a number, that modifier group is made last priority. 10 There are settings that control modifier behavior: Required, Optional - Force Show and Optional. Required The Required Modifier setting forces a server to make a selection before continuing to the next screen. Optional Force Show The Optional - Force Show setting prompts the server to view the modifier group, but does not force them to choose a modifier before continuing. This is typically used for up-selling. Changing Modifier Behavior You may want Toast to force a server to select a modifier. For example, you want to make sure that your server always asks what dressing the customer would like with their salad. There are two methods to changing modifier behavior and both can be configured in Toast s back-end. Method Method Select the item or group where the modifier group is located. Select the item using the search bar or by selecting it in the group. Optional The Optional Setting does not prompt the server to choose a modifier when the item is selected. Scroll down to the modifier section and select the modifier group. 4 Scroll down to the Modifiers section and select the dropdown under the Required? column. Make your selection and be sure to save and publish when complete. Change the setting under "Required?" Save and publish your changes. Toast Training Changing Modifier Behavior 9
