Getting Started Congratulations on taking the first step towards increasing your wine sales and providing a better experience for your guests. This guide will provide information and tips to help you make the most of the ipad and Android software. Restaurant Control Panel Logging In The first step to begin customizing and managing your wine menu is to login. You should have received a user name and password which you will use to access your account. 1. To begin, open your web browser and go to 2. Click on the icon in the top right corner that says: Login 3. Enter the user name and password you were provided and click on login. If successfully logged in, you will be presented with your restaurant control panel. The control panel contains links on the top of the screen for managing your menu and information. Preferences The preferences section is used to change your contact and venue information, input your logo for the menu, change settings for menu functionality, customize the look of your menu by changing, fonts colors and images, setup a slideshow images, and setup an optional information page in the menu. There are four tabs to switch between.
Your restaurant logo will appear on all screens when input into the app. There are two ways to input your logo: 1. Upload an image file from your computer 2. Point to your existing logo on the internet by entering the address (URL) The logo size should be 200 x 75 pixels to avoid any resizing or cut-off on the menu. Acceptable file formats are.jpg,.gif and.png. When finished, click on save and your logo will be added. Tip 1: It is suggested to use a logo with a transparent background, making the logo more integrated into the menu theme within the app. The best format to use for transparency is.png or.gif. On the tab labeled App Preferences you will find a number of settings for the design and functionality.
Setting Captions App Theme Header and Body Font Font Colors Background Colors Reset to Theme Defaults Show info page Enable featured beverages Enable selections Enable users to their selections Background Image Description You can set the text that appears underneath each of the specified icons. Choose among the different themes for the look and feel of the menu. The theme will change the border, but you can control fonts, colors and other attributes. Changes the fonts used throughout the menu. Put your mouse cursor over the preview link to see a preview of the font. Choose from any color in the selector to change the font colors within the menu. Choose from any color to change different background colors within the menu. When this button is clicked, it will reset the font and color options back to the theme defaults. You will lose color and font choices you have picked previously. Enables the information page section within the menu. Enables the featured section within the menu If Yes, the selections cart will be available for users to add items to their selection. If Yes, an icon on the selections page in the menu will allow your guests to their selections to themselves. You may upload an image that will take up the content space throughout the menu. Note, the theme border will still be visible on the edges. Tip 2: Remember to click the Update App Preferences button to save any changes you have made The third tab allows you to enable or disable the Slideshow feature. If Slideshow is enabled, you can upload images that will appear in slideshow format when the tablet is not in use. Make sure to click Update Slideshow Preferences to save and update any changes that you make. The fourth tab allows you to manage an information page to be displayed in the menu app. When enabled, a new icon will appear within the app that says Info and when users touch it, they will see your content. Common uses for this section in the app include: Information about the restaurant, such as hours of operation or chef bio Specials and happy hours Upcoming events Catering or private party information Sign-ups for a restaurant club or newsletter On the screen you will see an editor to input your information. This is called a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor. It allows you to input and manipulate text, images, tables, links and more using the buttons. You can use this editor just like you would any other word processing program, such as Microsoft Word. For advanced users, you could click the Source button and edit the HTML code for more manipulation options. Once you are done, click on the Update Info Page button at the bottom to save your data.
Tip 3: If you put in content other than text, such as images or web-based content, be sure your ipads have a WiFi connection in the restaurant or else users will only see the text. Only the text and locally stored images will be displayed without WiFi. Tip 4: You can use iframes to input content from other websites, such as a mailing list signup form or videos which may be hosted at websites such as YouTube. Tip 5: You can create a table of contents and link to different areas of the About Page by using the HTML Anchor tag and then linking to the anchors on the page. Categories The Categories page allows you to setup Sections, most likely these will be the wine, drink and food categories for your menu. Create and place drink or food items in the appropriate categories and subcategories, and by dragging you can order the items however you like. By clicking the image icon next to a Section name you can upload the image that you would like to appear on the Home page of the menu. Images should be 232 x 232 pixels to fit perfectly within the icon area. To add a new Section hit the add+ button:
To look at the categories in a section click on the black arrow: Then add or delete the desired categories. All menus have: Sections - A Section appears on the front screen of the menu and contains one or more of categories and subcategories. Category A Category is a grouping of items under a section. For example, categories may be Sparkling, White and Red, under a Wine section. Subcategory - A subcategory is a grouping under a category. For example, subcategories may be Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, under a Whites category. At least one subcategory must be created for each category and section in order to have an item appear on the menu. If you have created a category, but not created at least one subcategory under it, you will not be able to add items to the category and it will not appear on your menu. To reorder the Section, categories, subcategories or items just click the set of lines, hold down, and drag to the desired order. You can also auto-sort each subcategory by clicking the icon next to the subcategory name.
Beverages The beverages section allows you to manage, add or remove any standard drinks on your menu, such as wines, beers and spirits. At the top, you can filter to show all beverages, or only wines, beers or spirits. In a table you will see a list of all of your beverages. To change the information for any beverage just click on the row of the drink you want to edit. When editing a beverage you can change the display name, description, add serving multiple serving sizes, image, prices, add it to multiple categories and other options. To create new serving sizes or to change the order of existing ones, click on the Manage serving sizes link. You can change the order they appear on the menu by clicking and dragging the horizontal lines next to the serving to put it in the right order. Click Add New Serving to create a new serving for which you can enter a price. If you don t have a serving name (for example you want to display a price, but not have any text under it), just leaving the serving name blank and press Create. The new serving name will show as Default Serving online, but on the ipad no text will be shown below the price.
If you would like to feature the beverage, click the checkbox next to Featured wine. The checkbox next to Show vintage allows you to display or hide a wine vintage on the menu. The inactive checkbox allows you to temporarily remove a drink from your menu. There is a field for Bin # as well which is optional if you use bin numbers on your menu. Finally you will want to select one or more subcategories from the drop-down menu in which to place this item on the menu. Once you ve selected one, be sure to click the Add button to the right. You can also add suggested pairing to this item by clicking the Add button next to Pairings and selecting another item on the menu you want to recommend this with. You can change the image for the beverage in two ways. Click the red bar that says Upload a new image to choose a file from your computer. Or if you have the web URL of the image, you can paste the image URL into the box and click Fetch Image from URL. This will then download the image for this drink. In the bottom right corner of the screen is additional information on the drink from our beverage database. Depending on the type of beverage, this information may appear on your menu. So that we can ensure the integrity of the information for all of our customers you do not have the ability to edit this information. However, if you find an error or missing information, you may click the link Report an error with this data, and provide a comment about what is incorrect or missing. Uncorkd staff will then review the item and make any necessary changes to correct it.
To add new beverages to your menu, click on the Add New Beverage button from the beverages page. First you will need to search for the beverage in our database. Simply start typing the drink name and search results will appear. If a result is found, click on it and add in any extra details for the drink. If the beverage is not found in our database, you can press on the button click here to create a new beverage and enter in the beverage information. That beverage will then be available in our global database. Tip 6: When searching for a drink, the search engine does an exact text search to the name of the drink in our database. Try to use uniquely identifying information when searching, such as the brand or producer. Leave out words that are common or may be abbreviated. For example, you may wish to leave out Chateau, as it will not help narrow down what you are looking for and some producers may abbreviate this in information they have provided. It generally helps to start by typing the brand or producer and as results appear you can continue typing to narrow down the result, such as the varietal or name. Tip 7: When adding in a new drink that was not in our database, try to be as complete as possible with entering information. Note that a varietal is required for any new drink you are adding. For beers and spirits, this is the type or category, such as india pale ale or brown ale; or vodka, rum or single malt whisky. Cocktails Cocktails are unique drinks to your establishments that don t come packaged by a distributor and therefore aren t going to be available in our beverage database. For example, your martinis or specialty drinks would be considered cocktails. You can manage an existing cocktail s information by clicking on it or add a new one by clicking on the button Add New Cocktail. You can then enter in the cocktail name, description, price, image, serving, and food pairing. Cocktails, like all beverages, must be put into categories for them to appear on your menu. Food The food page allows you to enter in foods on your menu. To manage an existing food, click on the row of the food. To add a new food, click on the button Add New Food Item. You will then need to enter in a name and optional description, optional serving size, price, image and any beverage pairing. To enter in a price for food, you will need to create at least one serving size. To create new serving sizes or to change the order of existing ones, click on the Manage serving sizes link. Click Add New Serving to create a new serving for which you can enter a price. If you don t have a serving name (which is typical for food), just leaving the serving name blank and press Create. The new serving name will show as Default Serving online, but on the ipad no text will be shown below the price. Assigning Devices to the Menu Once the app has been downloaded onto your device, open the app and enter your login information when prompted and hit Proceed.
Once you enter in your login, the ipad will always know to pull up your menu when the Uncorkd app is opened. Using the Uncorkd App on Your ipad Installation To install the Uncorkd app on your ipad, follow these steps: 1. Go to the App Store on your ipad 2. Search for Wine Menu Uncorkd 3. Download the free Wine Menu Uncorkd app by Ideavation Menu Updating In order for your menu to update, the ipad must have an internet connection from WiFi. Any changes you make to drinks or other items on your menu will automatically update every three minutes. If the ipad misses an update from not having an internet connection or you need to manually update, there is a hidden button to do so. Triple tap very quickly on the bottom of the screen where it says Powered by Uncorkd. A message will pop-up asking you to confirm the reset and select yes. The menu will now redownload all its data so that everything is up-to-date. If you make any changes to the theme, design or icons, you will need to perform this manual reset so that the menu can download new design files.
Locking Down The ipad Settings Before using the ipad app in your restaurant, we recommend locking down many of the settings on your ipad. This will prevent guests from doing unauthorized activities with the ipad, such as browsing the web, using or downloading apps from the App Store. To find this setting, go to the ipad Settings menu, press on General and swipe down and press on Accessibility. Scroll down to Guided Access and toggle on. You will then need to set a password to lock/unlock the kiosk screen. Please write-down and do not lose this password. To invoke this Guided Access kiosk mode, open up the Uncorkd app and then triple tap the home button.
To invoke this Guided Access kiosk mode, open up the Uncorkd app and then triple tap the home button. Press start found at the top right of the screen. The hardware buttons will then be disabled and customers will not be able to exit out of the menu without knowing your passcode. To End Guided Access triple tap the home button, enter your Passcode and hit End found at the top left of the screen. Tracking Your ipad Location with Apple s Find My ipad Apple provides free software as part of icloud called Find My iphone that enables you to track the location of all of your ipads. To use this service, you must first have an Apple ID and icloud account. We highly recommend enabling this service on your ipads just in case one of them is lost or stolen. Here are instructions for setup on each ipad. 1. On the ipad go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar 2. Press on icloud 3. Ensure your Apple ID account information is entered in 4. Next to Find My ipad turn the switch to ON 5. Press Done 6. On your computer s web browser, go to the website: 7. Login with your Apple ID 8. Click on the Find my iphone icon 9. A map should load showing you the last known location of your ipad(s) 10. From this screen you can remotely send a message, lock or wipe your device if it ever goes missing.
Additional Information Integrating the menu on your website Uncorkd provides a simplified web-version of the app that you can easily integrate into your website and will always be in sync with any changes you make. To integrate into your website, you can link to your menu s web version at: Replacing IPADLOGIN with the Uncorkd login you use for your ipads. Alternatively and generally a nicer way is to integrate the actual menu into your existing website. On the page on your website where you want the menu to appear, you can use an iframe to display the content. This way, visitors do not leave your website to view the menu. Example HTML code to insert on your page where you want it to appear is: <iframe src=" width="800" height="1200" scrolling="yes"></iframe> Again, replacing IPADLOGIN with the Uncorkd login you use for your ipads. Using Uncorkd Without a WiFi Connection Uncorkd works by downloading all of your data to the ipad directly, which means you do not need to have a constant WiFi connection in your restaurant. However, in order to update your menu with any changes you made to your account online, you will need to connect the ipads to a WiFi network and then open the Uncorkd app. When you open the Uncorkd app, it checks for any new updates and downloads them to the device automatically. Support The Uncorkd support website can be found at The support site includes information and training materials to answer many questions. If you need help with the ipad app, your online account, or anything else at any time, please contact us. We strive to make sure you are completely satisfied with our software and you are seeing successful results by using it. You can contact us by ing support@uncorkd.biz, calling , or contacting your account representative. Our support is generally available from 8am to 6pm Central Time, M-F. If you call and get the support voic , please leave a message and someone will return your call shortly.
In the fourth unit you will learn how to upload and add images and PDF files.
