PhotoWorld Asia January 27 - February 1, Manila, Philippines Topics to be covered include: An Introduction to Lightroom for Organizing and Automating Your Workflow Mastering Adobe Camera Raw for Maximum Quality Converting Images to Black and White Selective Color Techniques Compositing and Masking Merge to HDR Pro and Faux HDR Toning Retouching and Painting Plus Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts to Automate PhotoshopCS5 Advantages of Lightroom Tools and Interface are streamlined, only what you need, when you need it philosophy. Instantaneous searching and filtering of images. Off-line files viewing image thumbnails and adding metadata regardless of location. Virtual copies and collections optimizing disk space and increasing flexibility. Infinite history and snapshots - enhancing creativity and encouraging exploration. Preset and template driven - increasing efficiency and eliminating mundane repetitive tasks. Limitations - Lightroom s catalog can not be stored on a network server and only a single user can access the catalog at one time. Modules G and E work across modules to return you to the Library. D moves to the Develop Module. Panels (F5) Opt/Alt -click the triangle on the panel header to toggle Solo Mode (single panel). Shift -click a panel header to display additional panels while in Solo Mode. Cmd/Ctrl + click the disclosure triangle in Solo Mode to show/hides all panels. Control (Mac), right mouse (Win) -click the small triangle to change panel hide/show options. Interface F cycles full screen mode. Set an Image s longest dimension when mixed aspect ratios. Save Presets whenever possible. To Export files from Lightroom and automatically run droplets (Batch Actions) in Photoshop, place the droplet in the Export Actions folder and choose Post Processing > After Export > (name of droplet). Edit in Photoshop Create Presets for commonly exported file types, bit depth etc. (Preferences > External Editing). Use Photo > Edit In to hand off files to Photoshop as Smart Object, Panorama, HDR and/or Multi-Layered Documents. Control (Mac), Right mouse (Win) -click on image to quickly select export presets. 5
Consistent to All Output Modules Easily select files to work with using the Content Selector in the Tool bar Recent folders and Favorites lists. Reorder by dragging images in the Filmstrip. Sharpening will automatically be adjusted for increase/decrease in size (for the Print and Web modules). Control (Mac) / right mouse -click on any preset and choose Update with Current Settings if you ve modified a preset and want to override the original. Slideshow MP3 file, double click the duration to auto adjust the length of each image. Export using the popular H.264 movie format, PDF or JPEG. Add text breaks in the Caption metadata field (in the Library) to create multi-line captions. Adding a Description in Photoshop s File Info is the same as adding a Caption in Lightroom. Cmd/Ctrl + Return/Enter enters slideshow mode. Print Cmd/Ctrl + P moves to the print dialog. Control (Mac), Right mouse (Win) -click send cells back or forwards in the Custom Layout. Save Print templates and Print Collections. Set your Custom Page color (text auto changes to white). Print to JPEG (not only a printer). The Identity Plate can be moved in small increments by selecting it and using the arrow keys. When using the Picture Package Layout Engine - Opt/Alt drag to make a duplicate cell. Cmd/Ctrl -drag an image to reposition within cell if the aspect ratio of the cell doesn t match the image. Saved templates include Page Setup and Printer specific settings allowing the single click Print One feature. Tethered shooting Lightroom 3 now supports tethered capture for several of the top of the line and common Canon and Nikon cameras. Session name is folder, Shoot names to break up session - this can automatically be added to the file name View camera settings and trigger the exposure Import via Tethered Capture in either Library or Develop. Make adjustments to first shot, then use Apply Previous to apply to subsequent images. Video Support Import, view and see duration in grid view. Double click to play in default player Filter by video clips Additional Areas of Interest: Saving Metadata to files Cmd/Ctrl + S pushes data from LR s database into individual DNG, JPEG, PSD, and TIFF files (or XMP sidecar files for proprietary raw files). To automatically write changes into files (or into XMP sidecar files) choose Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Write Changes into XMP. Dual Monitors Displaying selected images in Survey mode on one monitor as changes are being made in the develop module on another monitor is an excellent way to achieve a consistent look between images. Normal, Live and Locked modes on the secondary monitor give many different display options for showing clients images on a secondary computer. To move between views on a secondary monitor (Grid, Loupe, Compare and Survey), use the view mode shortcut key (G, E, C, N )+ Shift. 6
Quick Develop Increments The large and small arrow buttons in Quick Develop (in the Library module) make the following changes: Exposure 1/3 stop, 1 stop Recovery 5, 20 Fill Light 5, 15 Blacks 1, 10 B & C 5, 20 Vibrance 5, 20 Backing Up Catalogs To create a backup of the catalog, select File > Catalog Settings > General and select how often Lightroom should create a backup of your catalog. Remember, this is only creating a backup of the Lightroom catalog (not your images). The backup might use a little disk space, but it s well worth the investment just in case something happens to the primary catalog. You can also change the location of the Backup when prompted to backup (to another drive for example) - a great idea just in case you loose a drive!presets Lightroom s presets can be found/copied/deleted here: Mac (user)/library/application Support/Adobe/Lightroom Win (user)/ Application Data/Adobe/Lightroom To move presets between machines, Control (Mac) / right mouse (Win) -click on any preset and choose Show in Finder (Explorer - Win) to automatically find the presets folder. Then, copy and paste (using the operating system) the preset files to the same location on the other machine. Storing Your Presets and Templates with a Catalog This option is particularly useful if you need to constantly move your catalog and images from one computer to another. For example, in an educational photo lab environment, a student might move from one machine to another at every class. Choosing Preferences > Presets > Store Presets with Catalog allows any user-created setting such as metadata templates, develop presets etc. to be stored with (in the same folder as) the associated catalog instead of in the default location. For those that share computers, the advantage is that you won t have to see all of the other photographer s catalog presets (like metadata templates). However, if you are working on your own computer, I would suggest that you do NOT change this option (instead, save the presets that you make to the default location) so that your presets will be accessible if you decide to create multiple catalogs. Advanced Collections Another great use for collections provide a way for you to manage tasks in your workflow. For example you can create a Smart Collection that will search for and display all images that don t have keywords or copyright applied (so that you know what you still have to do). Or you can create one that displays all of the 2 star images taken within the past 30 days that haven t had adjustments (treatments) applied. Synchronizing Folders Occasionally you may download one card into a folder and start importing the files into Lightroom while you continue shooting additional images for the same job. If you then copy additional files to the same original folder and want to make Lightroom aware of them, you can choose to import the folder again, (Lightroom will not import the original files again) or target the folder in the Library module and simply select Library > Synchronize Folder. How Lightroom Works with Metadata from Other Applications Lightroom can understand changes made in Bridge and Camera Raw (the addition of metadata such as copyright or changes made to color or tone). However by default, if you open a file in Bridge and make changes to the metadata, Lightroom will NOT automatically update the metadata. Lightroom will warn you that the file has changed outside of the application (by displaying an icon in the Grid view). You can then choose whether or not you want to use the updated metadata from Bridge/Camera Raw or use the information in Lightroom s database (click the icon to choose, or select Metadata > Read Metadata from File to replace). Additional software applications that follow the XMP standard should also be able to read/write Lightroom and Photoshop s metadata. Re-linking Files and Folders If files and/or Folders have been moved (behind Lightroom s back!), Lightroom will loose the link to the file and display a? next to the missing image in the Grid view or next to folder in the Folder panel. Clicking on the? icon will allow you to re-link any files (Lightroom will prompt you to find the files that you moved). You can also re-link folders that have been moved or renamed by Control (Mac) / right mouse -clicking on the folder name in the Folders panel and choose Update Folder Location. Choose Library > Show Missing Photos too quickly see all missing photos. 7
Photoshop CS5 Compositing and Masking Basic compositing techniques - Iceland File Size Presets Smart Objects Rules and Guides Layer masking ( black hides, white reveals) Adding a texture as an overlay (opacity and blend modes) Adding Adjustment layers Gradient Overlays Burning down edges Leading Lines (composite) Can be straight or curvy, created by physical objects or with color or tone. Help to keep a viewer s eye within the frame. Can create depth in a photo by adding different planes (keep it from looking flat and one dimensional). Imitate other shapes in the photo and repeat them to call out similarities. If they re not the main subject (but perhaps the path towards it, make sure to keep them subtle (don t overpower the subject). Can help tell the visual narrative of the image by creating tension or calm movement through the image. Merge to HDR Pro and Faux HDR Toning HDR Pro - more powerful and more visually pleasing tone mapping defaults. Presets for Photo-realistic and surreal - over the top sharpness and brightness (and not only color but also black and white). Ghosting/artifact removal to help clarify moving objects. (Can change assigned reference image). Tone Mapping - for those that only have one exposure but like the look of HDR (faux HDR) Do as much in ACR first. Automatically repairing lens distortions (based on EXIF data) in really wide angle images files, apply lens correction manually to simi-wide angle lenses in ACR or Develop Module (LR). Content Aware Fill Content Aware Scale and now Fill - works extremely well with organic shapes (Shift + Delete/Backspace to display the Fill dialog). Content aware fill is also in the Spot Healing brush. If the subject is complex, select it and copy it to a layer then fill in the background and mask the copied layer out. Adobe Lens Profile Creator and Downloader Create your own lens profiles and share them online. For more information : Selections - Refine Edge Preview displays actual image or choose desired View. Smart Radius (detect soft and hard edges and adjusts radius automatically). Use the brush to add - as you drag, Photoshop is learning. The more information that you give it about the regions that are in and those that are out, the smarter it will be about your selection. (Option/Alt brush to remove). Improved color decontamination when shooting on blue/green screen. (Actual isolation and removal of contaminating color). Automatic output to different layer types from dialog. 8
Retouching and Painting Brush size and opacity relocated on option bar to override setting in brush settings panel. Toggle Brush Panel from new Brush Preset Panel (moved and changed icon). Brush and Brush Presets panel relocated and have icons to display and hide. Brush Preview panel. New Natural Media Bristle Tips for regular painting. Mixer Brush - fluid brush dynamics. Load multiple colors into a brush. Wet, Load, and Mix options - the dryer the brush, the softer and more smooth the blending. Load/Clean brushes after each stroke (or paint with a dirty brush). Intous 4 5D Art Pen includes support for barrel rotation (as well as tilt, shift, pressure, and size). Command + option + control displays color Picker HUD, spacebar to lock it into place (preference for wheel or strip). Change brush size and feather using horizontal/vertical strokes (Mac: Ctrl-Opt-drag Win: Right Click-Alt-drag). On screen color picker with shortcuts to invoke (Mac: Ctrl-Opt-Cmd-drag, Win: Right Click-Alt-Shift-drag. To lock position of Lightness/Saturation, release shortcut combo and press spacebar move over to Hue selector to change Hue. Eyedropper will now display a sampling ring. Non-rotating brushes with Canvas Rotate. Assign a custom keyboard shortcut to display the Color picker. Puppet Warp File and Document Management: Save as to Original Folder. Save as JPEG can automatically lower the bit depth to 8 bit (from 16 bit). Save all - apply to all checkbox. Setting history and cache so that it s faster. How to optimize Photoshop on: Mac: Win Enhanced Adjustments panel: Option to Auto-Select Targeted Adjustment Tool. Option to Auto-Select Parameter when selecting an adjustment layer. Option to assign a shortcut to the Targeted Adjustment Tool via Edit - >Keyboard Shortcuts. To put keyboard focus onto the first field in Adjustments, hit Shift-Return on the keyboard. Added Straighten button to the Ruler Tool. (Click to crop, Option/Alt click to straighten without cropping). Crop tool has a rule of thirds. Sharpen tool greatly improved to protect Detail. Layers Deeper layer set nesting. Adjust opacity/fill of multiple layers at once. Ability to set default values for each effect in the Layer Styles dialog. Drag/Drop to place file from desktop onto open image. Edit > Paste in Place command (preserves object coordinates when pasting). Layers Panel options Fly out - turn off the option to add the word Copy to copied layers and Groups. Scrubby zoom tool. Create layer mask from transparency. Added a Don t Show Again checkbox to the Maximize Compatibility dialog. 9
Retouching Images The Goal is to Minimize the Distracting Elements Planning Your Projects Communicate with your client and decide what will be done - use a new layer or make notes. Making tonal and Color Corrections Push the image as far as you can in ACR before going to PS to create and make changes using delicate selections and layer masks Removing Small Imperfections Dodge and burn, Clone or Healing brush on a separate layer Concealing Shadow Areas Dodge and Burn, paint or clone the area (at a reduced opacity or on it s own layer or by fading the last stroke) Enhancing Eyes Brightening eye whites and desaturating Additional depth can be added to the eyes with a little dodging and burning - making them appear bright and alert. Accent the eyelashes and add eyeliner to add definition around the eyes if necessary. Adding red to brown eyes softens the look of a person. Perfecting Teeth and Lips Brighten and desaturate teeth Adding makeup to cheekbones Feature Transformation Copying information to another layer (lots of information, then transforma nd mask) Liquify Moving and Replacing Objects Content aware fill Content aware scale Copying information to another layer Removing Glare in Glasses Either create the data yourself or shoot with out glasses and align and mask Sharpening Images Smart Objects allow for Smart FIlters USM and High Pass (set to Soft Light or Overlay) Retouching from scanned images Smart Filter, Dust and Scratches Mini Bridge Mini Bridge - runs in a Flash panel. Doesn t have to share resources within PS - because Mini Bridge calls on Bridge for info. Access through Extensions menu or icon in upper left of Application Frame (unsync) or on Mini Bridge panel (sync). Dock panel to the bottom and view as filmstrip mode. Drag files directly into Photoshop & InDesign to open or to add as layers (Smart objects). Access multiple files and run different commands (e.g. Merge to HDR Pro, PhotoMerge). Full screen preview (spacebar) of supported file types as well as video and 3D etc. Additional Features of Bridge Improved Batch renaming dialog - save presets and allow string substitution. Export Panel for interactive publishing (batch export of JPEGs as well as upload to Flickr, Facebook, andphotoshop.com). Path bar for easier/faster navigation. Output to PDF with option to add watermark Output as PDF - you can add a watermark. 10
