3 RealPresence Collaboration Server 7.8 The RealPresence Collaboration Server (formerly RealPresence RMX) version 7.8 software release includes support of Scalable Video Coding (SVC) conferences. SVC conferencing offers high resolution video conferencing with low end-to-end latency, improved error resiliency and higher system capacities. Version 7.8 supports the new Conferencing Mode SVC Conferencing, which is based on the SVC video protocol and SAC audio protocol. The ability to host both SVC and AVC endpoints in the same conference is planned for release in Exporting and Importing Conference Templates, Conference Profiles and System Flags This new version allows for the importing and exporting of RMX Conference Templates, Conference Profiles and System Configuration Files. This new feature helps ensure identical settings across multiple MCUs, which is especially important in environments using cascading conferences that are running on different MCUs. RMX Manager users with Administrator permissions are allowed to both import and export Conference Templates, Conference Profiles and the System flags. Operators are only allowed to export Conference Templates and Conference Profiles and have no access to System Flags. When exporting or importing a Conference Template, the system provides a checkbox to automatically include the associated Conference Profile in the process. The Export dialog box is shown below with this option checked. The Import Conference Template dialog box has a similar option. Note: Associated IVR profiles and message files are not exported or imported along with the Conference Profiles. Page 3 of 8

Summary Exercise (10 Minutes) Objective During this lab you will use the RMX Manager 7.8 to export and import Conference Templates, Conference Profiles and the System Flags. What You Will Learn After completing the exercises you will be able to: Export and import existing Conference Templates Export and import existing Conference Profiles Export and import the System Flags Detailed Lab Steps Export Conference Templates and Associated Conference Profiles 1. Open the RMX Manager 7.8 application and connect to the RealPresence Video Collaboration Server version 7.8 using an Administrator login 2. Open the Conference Templates tab located on the right side of the window 3. Select the Export Conference Templates icon 4. Select Browse to place the export file on your Desktop and click OK 5. Enter a name for the Templates file, such as Corporate (notice that the corresponding conference profiles export file will use the same name) 6. Ensure the box is checked for Export includes conference profiles and click OK (note: this will export only the Conference Profiles referenced by the exported Conference Templates) 7. The two xml files, Corporate_confTemplates.xml and Corporate_confProfiles.xml, should now be located on your Desktop Page 4 of 8

5 Export All Conference Profiles 8. Navigate to Rarely Used > Conference Profiles 9. Select the Export Conference Profiles icon 10. Select Browse to place the export file on your Desktop and click OK 11. Enter a name for the Conference Profiles, such as Corp and click OK to create the export file 12. The file Corp_confProfiles.xml should now be located on your Desktop Import Conference Templates and Associated Conference Profiles 13. Open or navigate to the Conference Templates window in the RMX Manager 14. Select the Import Conference Templates icon 15. Select Browse to locate the export file Corporate_confTemplates on your Desktop and click Open 16. Ensure the box is checked Import includes conference profiles and click OK 17. You will receive a Message Alert if any of the imported Conference Templates or Conference Profiles already exist on this MCU Import Conference Profiles 18. Navigate to Rarely Used > Conference Profiles 19. Select the Import Conference Profiles icon 20. Select Browse to locate the export file Corp_confProfiles on your Desktop and click Open 21. Click OK to import the conference profiles 22. You will receive a Message Alert if any of the imported Conference Profiles already exist on this MCU, click Cancel to close the alert box Export System Flags 23. From the menu bar, navigate to Setup > System Configuration > Export 24. Select Browse to place the export file on your Desktop and click OK 25. Enter a name for the Conference Profiles, such as Corporate and click OK to create the export file 26. The file Corporate_systemCfg.xml should now be located on your Desktop Page 5 of 8

6 Import System Flags 27. From the menu bar, navigate to Setup > System Configuration > Import 28. Select Browse to find the export file Corporate_systemCfg on your Desktop and click Open 29. Click OK to import the system flags; the system must now be restarted for the changes to take effect 30. Navigate to Frequently Used > Hardware Monitor and select the icon for a System Reset 31. Answer Yes to the prompt regarding the Resetting of all RMX cards 32. When the System Reset is complete, the system will be using the System Flags from the imported file End of practical exercise Page 6 of 8

7 The CP Resolution Decision Matrix All the Continuous Presence options and settings are based on a decision matrix which matches video resolutions to connection line rates with the aim of providing the best balance between resource usage and video quality at any given line rate. The following factors affect the decision matrices: The type of media cards installed (i.e., MPM, MPM+, MPMx) The video protocol used (i.e. H.264 base profile or H.264 High Profile) A different decision matrix is used for the Motion and Sharpness settings in the RMX Conference Profile as the quality requirements are different The RMX system ships with three pre-defined settings of the decision matrix for H.264 Base Profile and three pre-defined settings for H.264 High Profile with Motion and Sharpness video quality for each: Resource-Quality Balanced (default): a balance between video quality and resource usage (this is the only available resolution configuration in version 6.0.x and earlier) Resource Optimized: system resource usage is optimized by allowing high resolution connections only at high line rates and may result in lower video resolutions (in comparison to other resolution configurations) for some line rates. This option saves MCU resources and increases the number of participant connections Video Quality Optimized: video is optimized through higher resolution connections at lower line rates increasing the resource usage at lower line rates. This may decrease the number or participant connections, but provides for the highest video quality Page 7 of 8

8 Actual video resource usage is dependent upon the participant s line rate, resolution and video quality settings. Below is a sample matrix, showing the resolutions used for the various line rates for the pre-defined optimization settings for H.264 Base Profile and Video Quality setting Sharpness and Motion for the MPMx card.
