2 Open Source Software Used in the Product The Polycom RealPresence Capture Station contains in part open source software, software licensed in a way that allows you the freedom to run, copy, distribute, change and improve the software. 3 Welcome! This document is meant to help you follow- along with the Polycom Global Support representative who has been assigned to help install the Polycom RealPresence Capture Station. The Capture Station is NOT intended for customer self- installation. Let s get started with your new Polycom RealPresence Capture Station Appliance! Step 1 - Unpack Physically unpack the Capture Station. Take care not to discard the adapters and paper license form(s). Step 2 Connect Make the physical connections (items 1-6 below). Physical Connections: 1. Power Cord (SD and HD Capture Stations are auto- power sense for global use. Mobile is USA only) 2. USB Keyboard and Mouse 3. CAT5 Network Connection (requires Internet connectivity for license registration) 4. Capture Station Display - VGA/DVI Monitor (this is optional 2 nd monitor for Mobile Capture Station) 5. Content capture DVI/VGA source digitizer - screen captures (connect to a PC/MAC with DVI or the enclosed DVI to VGA adapter)

6. People capture Video & Audio motion source digitizer card - Capture Station SD ships with breakout for Component and Composite, and an adapter for S- Video.

Capture Station Mobile ships with breakout for Composite and S- Video. Capture Station HD requires a HD- SDI connection for HD video and embedded audio (audio must be embedded in the HD- SDI connection). The Capture Station uses two sources to create the Rich Media Webcast seen by the viewing audience; the People source and the Content source. People This is a full motion video source (often a camera facing an instructor/presenter, hence People ) - A video camera or the VCR output from Polycom HDX is plugged in to the appropriate connection on the Audio/Video Breakout Cable and this video source is captured/digitized in full motion. The People source could also be a video feed from a A/V mixer or any other compatible video source in a multimedia studio or classroom. - An accompanying audio source such as a mic/pa system or the VCR out audio from a Polycom HDX is plugged into the appropriate connection on the Audio/Video Breakout Cable and this audio source is captured/digitized and included with the full motion stream/files. Content This is a content source, any DVI or VGA device. The source is monitored continuously, and snapshots are taken when the Capture Station software detects a significant % of change in one snapshot over the next (which usually represents a PPT slide change or bullet build). - The content source is typically a laptop or desktop computer displaying PowerPoint slides or other applications during the presentation. Other common Content sources include devices with a VGA/DVI output such as digital whiteboards, digital overhead document camera, or tablet PC with an external monitor adapter. Step 3 Power- Up Power on your Capture Station. After the system fully boots, please read and accept the Polycom RealPresence Capture Station End User License Agreement (EULA). Note: For convenience, the Capture Station is pre- configured for DHCP and in most networks it will automatically be prepared to access the Internet post- boot. If DHCP is not enabled on your network, please consult with your network administrator to manually configure the Windows 7

5 Professional operating system IP address, gateway and DNS servers (and proxy if needed) for Internet connectivity. Step 4 Install Helper Apps Using the shortcuts provided in the folder on the desktop labeled Customer Must Install, download and install the important helper applications including: Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 with Service Pack 1 Adobe - Adobe Reader Step 5 Install Optional Utilities - Download (or copy from USB or network location) any other helper applications you may need in your environment. This might include: VLC Player helpful utility to check the video capture card s input signal. Adobe - Adobe Flash Player (if you want to use Media Editor on this Capture Station and plan on importing flash files) Microsoft PowerPoint (if you want to use Media Editor on this Capture Station and plan on importing.ppt files) Step 6 Register - The Capture Station comes pre- registered with a trial license, but it is best to input the permanent license you received with the Capture Station (it may be on a paper form in the box, or delivered electronically to your ). To register your Capture Station license, the appliance requires Internet connectivity via the Ethernet port. Note In the unlikely event that your activation key fails for any reason, you can use Capture Station in Trial License mode for up to 30 days whilst you work with Polycom Support on any activation key issues. Launch the Capture Station application form the desktop shortcut and from the HELP menu, select View License Details. Referring to the license form included with your Capture Station, enter the activation key (all numbers) and press the Activate via Internet button. This might take a minute or two You are now ready to capture your first presentation!

The Capture Station is initially configured to capture and prepare on- demand presentations locally. It s OK if you are not fully prepared for an actual presentation.

The editing tool, Polycom RealPresence Media Editor can be used to edit the Capture Station presentation after you are done. Create a Presentation: 1. Ensure your People source (camera and mic) and Content source (PC/MAC) are turned on and are sending their source feeds to the Capture Station correctly (you can use the helper app VLC Player to check if you are unsure of the output your Polycom Global Support representative can show you how when they install the Capture Station). 2. Open the Capture Station application if it is not already open. 3. Fill in the various meta- data (Title, Speaker, Description). 4. Press Start Presentation and look to the bottom of the application window where the status will be provided, when the Capture Station is producing the presentation, you ll see the status Presentation Running and a URL that you can click to watch the live presentation.

5. After a few minutes, click on the Stop Presentation button. This will turn off the People and Content encoders and make the presentation available for viewing on your Capture Station. 6.

Clicking on the URL address shown on the Configuration Screen will let you see the presentation. You will not hear any output unless you have attached speakers or headphones to the Capture Station s audio- card (green mini stereo jack connector). Once you are satisfied that the Capture Station is properly configured for capturing and creating local presentations, your Polycom Global Support representative should be engaged to configure the Capture Station to publish to your Polycom RealPresence Media Manager or alternatively a generic media and web server(s).
