Genie Nano Cable Connections This note details configuring the Genie Nano for use with inspect Express and Sherlock 7. The Genie Nano can be powered through the I/O Connector, or by Power over Ethernet (PoE). Genie Nano I/O IMPORTANT: The Genie Nano Inputs are NPN. There is a common ground pin for the two inputs. The Genie Nano Outputs are PNP. There is a common power pin for the two outputs. This is different from the standard Genie series cameras (inputs and outputs are all NPN). Refer to the Genie Nano Series User Manual for illustrations of the input and output circuits. The Genie Nano outputs will not perform correctly in a circuit that was designed for the standard Genie series camera. Note: You can use a single output (either 1 or 2) as NPN by connecting the GPO to ground, and the Output Power to your NPN circuit. The second output is not usable in this method. Refer to the description below, on GV 1000 and PL-USB connections. Connecting to the GV 1000 or PL-USB The GV 1000 and the PL-USB were designed for NPN signals used on the Genie series cameras. You can use the Genie Nano with a GV 1000 or PL-USB if you reverse-wire the Nano s outputs for NPN operation, however you only get one output when you do this. The camera GPO2 gets connected to the I/O COM on the GV 100 or COM on the PL-USB. The camera Output Power is connected to the camera Strobe input STRB on the GV 1000 or the PL-USB. GPO1 in not usable, and not connected. You may need to experiment with the polarity of the output (in CamExpert). 3 Network Port Configuration Start by configuring the Network Port on your PC or vision system to receive data from the camera. If you are using a Vision System from Teledyne DALSA, some (not all) of these setting are already done. Follow this section and verify your port is set up fully and correctly. There are a few configuration settings which are important to the camera and software performance. These are: Interrupt Moderation, Jumbo Frames, Receive Buffers, Flow Control, and Offload settings. The Jumbo Frames and Receive Buffers are already configured on Vision Systems purchased from Teledyne DALSA, as is appropriate for the Genie Series cameras. The other settings discussed are important for the larger image format and higher transfer speeds of the Genie TS, Linea and Nano. NOTE: You should not use the same network port for connecting to an office network and to GigE Cameras. There are conflicts that arise for each of the following settings. You must repeat the whole configuration for every network port that is connected to a camera. 1. Open the Control Panel, and open the Network Sharing Center (one of the following paths) [Control Panel Network and Sharing Center] or [Control Panel Network and Internet Network Sharing Center] 2. Click on Change adapter settings. 3. Right-click on the Network Adapter (or network port) associated with the Camera, (CamPort1 shown here) and select Properties. Genie Nano Configuration page 3 of 16 Version 3.2;

4. Click on the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Then click the Properties button. 5. Verify the port is using a fixed IP Address. A fixed IP Address is strongly recommended for all GigE cameras. 6. If you change the Address, you must close and reopen the Port Properties. If you do not save and close before changing the other settings, your Address change will be lost. Note: Vision Systems from Teledyne DALSA are shipped with LAN1 configured for Network access, and LAN2 through LAN6 configured for cameras. The address shown is usually assigned to LAN2, which is named CamPort1. Genie Nano Configuration page 4 of 16 Version 3.2;

7. Re-Open the Port Properties if you closed it. Click on the Configure button. 8. In the next window, click the Advanced tab (see next image). Interrupt Moderation Interrupt Moderation should be Enabled. There may be a second setting for the level or rate. Change the setting to Minimal. Other settings may cause the PC to seem unresponsive or may cause your application to not be able to respond quickly. Jumbo Frames The Jumbo Frames feature is not necessary for 640x480 cameras. For larger image formats this feature is recommended. For Turbo Drive, this feature is necessary. Note: If your network card is 10/100, this option is not available, and Turbo Drive is not supported. Small format images will work fine. Large format images will cause slow response or corruption in the PC and the application. 9. Click on Jumbo Frames or Jumbo Packet and select 9014 (or the largest value below that). Genie cameras are not compatible with values larger than NOTE: Jumbo Frames is usually turned OFF for a regular network server connection. Enabling Jumbo Frames on a network connection can interfere with other network equipment that does not support Jumbo Frames. Genie Nano Configuration page 5 of 16 Version 3.2;

The Network card Jumbo Frame setting should normally be at the maximum value available (usually 9014 bytes) but there are exceptions for certain conditions. For a large format color image, you usually want the Network card Jumbo Frames value to be less than the maximum value (for example 4088) so the camera data does not overload the network interface. But not all network cards support this setting. If a lower setting causes no image to be acquired, you may try disabling jumbo frames to see if that fixes the problem. For multiple large format cameras, set Jumbo Frames to the maximum and increase the Camera Inter-Packet Time setting on all cameras, so different cameras can get access to the system. inspect Express calculates the bandwidth and changes these values for you. For Sherlock, use CamExpert to set this parameter (discussed on page 9). If your Network card also connects to a Network (Machine Network or PLC), do not enable Jumbo Frames if the Network Server or Controller does not support it. Accessing the network may become unstable. Peripherals that do not support Jumbo Frames may become inaccessible. Receive Buffers Increase the value of the Receive Buffers (or Receive Descriptors) to the maximum value available. There is usually a number wheel control for increasing the number. 10. Click on Receive Buffers or Receive Descriptors. If this is not in the list, click on Performance Options in the list, and click the Properties button that appears. Then click on Receive Buffers in the next menu. 11. The number field usually has up and down arrow buttons at the right, to increase and decrease the number value. Click and hold on the Up arrow or increase button, until the number value stops increasing (reaches the maximum value). Adaptive Inter-Frame Spacing If your system has this option, (see image above) enable it. Notice the Interrupt Moderation Rate also appears in this Performance Options menu also, for this NIC. Set it to Minimum. Genie Nano Configuration page 6 of 16 Version 3.2;

Flow Control Flow Control should be either Enabled or Rx & Tx Enabled. The available setting depends on the model and features of your network card. 12. Flow Control must be Enabled or Rx & Tx Enabled. If this is not in the list on the Advanced tab, click on Performance Options in the list (previous page), and click the Properties button that appears. Then click on Flow Control in the next menu. Offloading All settings that mention Offload or Offloading should be Disabled for use with the GigE camera. These settings would normally be enabled for use with a network server in a business network setting. 13. All Offload settings should be Disabled. There may be only one setting for TCP/IP Offloading or TCP Offloading or, there may be multiple settings for offloading. Sometimes (depending on the NIC model) there is a second menu with Offload settings, as shown here. Disable (uncheck) all of them. This NIC had Offloading in both menus (in the Advanced tab and in the Offloading Options menu). NOTE: Offloading is always enabled for a regular network server connection. Finish 14. Click OK in each menu, and close all the network configuration menus. You do not need to reboot your computer after the Network Card changes. Repeat You must repeat all of these steps for each network port used to connect to a GigE Camera. Do not perform these steps on a network port connected to an office network or the internet. Genie Nano Configuration page 7 of 16 Version 3.2;

inspect Express Minimum Software Levels inspect Express 1956 and GenICam (or later) are required for Mono Genie Nano support. inspect Express 1957 and GenICam (or later) are required for color Genie Nano support. Select the Genie Nano in the Device pull down (CamExpert may default to the Imager or other hardware). 4. Click on the GigE Vision Transport Layer group (left column). 5. Verify the Packet Size is Verify the Inter-Packet Delay is 0 if you have only one camera on this port. Note: If you are connecting multiple cameras through a switch, you will need to increase the Inter-Packet Delay. A value of 3500 is a good starting point. Color Cameras The Genie Nano is a high-speed camera. For the color models, color de-bayer is performed in software (like the Genie TS series) not in hardware (like the Genie series). If you do not enable and configure software de-bayer you will see a monochrome image in CamExpert and Sherlock. 1. When you open CamExpert, you should see a message about enabling software de- DeBayer. If you answered Yes the feature is already enabled. If you answered No the feature is disabled. Genie Nano Configuration page 9 of 16 Version 3.2;

2. Pull down the Pre-Processing menu and enable the Software option as shown. Sherlock does not have a White Balance feature. You must enter the RGB Gain values manually in your configuration file. You must perform White Balance in CamExpert to find the necessary values. 3. The trigger must be disabled or Trigger Mode = Off (IO Controls group). The camera needs to grab an image to perform White Balance. 4. Point the camera at a white object, that is not overexposed. 5. Click the Auto White Balance button in the Image Toolbar, to open the Color Conversion Setting menu. 6. Draw a rectangle (click-drag-release) on a white area in the image. 7. Click the Auto White Balance button. The number fields will change. Write these values down. Sherlock does not have a white balance function. You need to enter these number values in Sherlock s Sapera LT configuration file. These values are not saved to the camera s registers, and are not saved in the Camera s configuration file. 8. Click the Image Format Controls in the left column. In the right column, verify the Color Mode is BayerRG 8-bit (not 10). Genie Nano Configuration page 10 of 16 Version 3.2;

IO Controls 7. Click on the I/O Controls group. If you do not see all the parameters mentioned, click on Show More > > at the bottom of the list. 8. Change the Trigger Mode to On. 9. 13 11. Open Sherlock. If Sherlock has been configured for acquisition from Sapera LT, the Genie Nano should be found and drivers loaded correctly. The Monitor panel messages are shown here. Note: In Sherlock the camera s inputs and outputs always appear, with or without the PL-USB or GV Changing Values in Sherlock Use the IO:Camera instruction Set Number Feature to change camera settings in Sherlock. You can look up the feature names and values in CamExpert, or in the Genie Nano Series User Manual. When you change the Exposure, you may see one or two images that were acquired before the change takes effect because Sherlock acquires and buffers images. Use the instruction: IO:Camera:flush acquired images. You must halt acquisition (IO:Camera:Halt camera Acq) to change the Trigger delay. Using TurboDrive TM Note: inspect Express does not support TurboDrive. Note: Sapera LT Runtime 8.02 supports TurboDrive on the Genie Nano. This version of Sapera LT installs a newer version of the Sapera Network Imaging Service (the CorSnid network driver). Sapera LT 8.00 Runtime does not support the TurboDrive feature for the Genie Nano. Note: The maximum frame rate is different on all models of the Genie Nano. Check the specifications for your camera.
