Safety In case of breakage of the panel liquid may emerge! Do not touch the liquid! Avoid contact with skin and clothes and rinse thoroughly if accidentally contaminated!!!!!! Disconnect the device from power if you notice smoke or smell! Dont use liquids to clean the device. If liquids or solid materials get into the device, disconnect it from power and consult your e:cue specialist! The control element must only be installed and put into operation by a qualified electrician. The applicable safety regulations and accident prevention regulations must be observed. Actions described in this manual may only be performed with special care by skilled personnel. Glass Touchscreen repairs may only be carried out by authorized, specially trained personnel. When in doubt, contact e:cue service. Only use the device in compliance with the environmental conditions specified in the corresponding data sheet.! Do not use standard power-over-ethernet with 48V supply voltage. This will damage the device! 6
Connectors and interfaces Rear side from top Front side 1 - e:bus interface 2 - Mini-USB (w/o function) 3 - RS232/RJ11 (w/o function) 4 - Ethernet/RJ USB-A (for firmware updates) 2 - Reset button 3 - SD card slot (for OS updates) 7
Installation Wall types The Glass Touchscreen can be installed into massive walls or cavity walls. For both applications fitting boxes are available and can be ordered from your e:cue distributor. Basic mounting It is strictly recommended using a spirit level to keep the chassis horizontal. Then fix the mounting plate with the four long screws included in the package. 8
Installing the Glass Touchscreen Connect the e:bus to the screw terminal plug, it is recommended that cables come from the top of the mounting boxes. However, cables can turn around the unit. Plug the e:bus connector (or 24V DC) into the Glass Touchscreen, the polarity is free. Now put the unit into the box: first place the bottom of the Touch Panel in the two pivot pins on the chassis.! Do not connect a power wearing RJ45 ethernet cable to the Glass Touchscreen s e:net input! Always use the power/e:net splitter adapters to separate power supply and e:net! 9
Snap it into the box and fix it to the chassis with the top screw. Final step is sticking the frame onto the panel. Magnetic parts will keep it in contact with the chassis while the four domes ensure correct alignment. 10
Usage scenarios e:bus standalone mode e:bus The Glass Touchscreen interacts with a Butler XT to start/stop cuelists and send key messages. e:bus online mode e:net e:bus Choose this scenario to interact with other Glass Touch devices in a mixed multi-zone installation, where a facility server is permanently present. 11
e:net network mode e:net This setup provides a maximum of control flexibility over both the server and the display content of as many Glass Touchscreens as needed. Mix with Glass Touch series possible. Important notes and annotations A Butler XT firmware version >= is mandatory! Upgrade the Butler XT firmware with the e:cue Patchelor or e:cue Programmer if necessary! A Programmer version 5.2 SP1 or higher is necessary to setup the Glass Touchscreen and is provided in the base package. In e:bus mode the number of Glass Touchscreens connected to one Butler XT is limited to two devices, because the Butler XT has a supply current limit of 800 ma (one Glass Touchscreen needs 300 ma). Be sure that the total supply current of all connected e:bus devices does not exceed 800 ma. In e:net mode with external power supply there is no limitation of e:cue devices per LCE. Always switch off the Butler XT before connecting a Glass Touchscreen, otherwise the inrush current triggers the current protection of the Butler XT. Never use active PoE with 48 VDC for the Glass Touchscreen! Always use passive PoE with 24 V with the supply/e:net splitter adapters. Do not insert a SD card into the Glass Touchscreen. This card is used for operating system updates only. 12
Supplying power over e:net If the Glass Touchscreen is used in online mode the necessary 24V power is supplied over the e:net connection. The power splitter and power coupler are part of the accessory pack. If you only need the coupler/splitter without the power supply of the accessory pack please contact your e:cue distributor. e:net 220 V~ ~ 24 V= = e:net e:bus e:net/e:bus power coupler RJ45 e:net/e:bus power splitter RJ45 13
Setup Glass Touchscreen boot phase When switched on, the Glass Touchscreen will display a menu to select e:net or e:bus mode. If nothing is selected after some seconds, the Glass Touchscreen starts in the last used mode, stored in internal memory. The factory default is e:net. e:bus and e:net mode cannot be used at the same time. e:bus mode When using the e:bus protocol the Glass Touchscreen has to be connected to the Butler XT. Do not leave e:bus lines open, signal reflections interrupt communication. Do not place more than one e:bus master on one e:bus (e.g. Butler XT) The e:bus polarity (+/ ) is configured automatically and does not need to be adjusted. For detailed information about the e:bus visit see Downloads Documents Manuals e:bus Manual. For basic configuration settings start the Programmer of the Lighting Application Suite and initiate a device scan in the Device Manager: The Glass Touchscreen can be operated either in online or in standalone mode. For basic configuration it is mandatory that the Butler XT is connected via Ethernet to the Programmer of the Lighting Application suite 1 (see Butler XT manual). In the LAS select the Device Manager and start the Automatic Setup Wizard. 1) only Programmer Version 5.2 SP1 or higher 14
The Butler XT will be found and displayed: Set the checkmark for the Butler XT with the attached Glass Touchscreen and set the option for Continue with scan for e:bus devices. Click OK. 15
The Glass Touchscreen will be found: Close the Device Discovery Wizard and return to the Device Manager. Doubleclick the device to set it up. Select the appropriate tab to configure online or standalone mode. Before functions are assigned to the buttons and faders the layout has to be selected. 16
There is a set of prepared layouts available. With the green left/right arrows you can select the suitable layout. It is important to know that the layout, which has been selected, is used for both modes, e:bus online and standalone mode. Changing the layout resets all assigned functions which might have already been assigned to buttons and faders. Similar to the Glass Touch devices buttons may be assigned to functions and faders may be used as Versatile Master or Cuelist Master. (see Glass Touch T6R manual). 17
Finalizing e:bus setup After all configuration parameters are set up properly, run a Quick Update for the Butler XT to sent all configuration and setup data. This is done with the Quick Update function in the Device Manager. The second choice for running an update for the Butler XT is the Export Show To Device button in the upper buttom line (the satellite symbol). In this case also the cuelists will be exported to the Butler XT. e:net network mode When the Glass Touchscreen is used in e:net mode its function is to mirror the Action Pad of the LAS. You can illustrate all pages of the Action Pad or just a subset. Before configuring the device it is mandatory to connect the device first: Connect the Glass Touchscreen with an Ethernet cable to a switch. Ensure that the computer running the LAS 2 is reachable. Connect the Glass Touchscreen with the power supply unit (PSU). To configure the Glass Touchscreen start the Programmer and click on the Network tab. When the Glass Touchscreen is switched on it will appear in the visible network devices. When the device is clicked the configuration screen is shown. 2) only Programmer Version 5.2 SP2 and higher 18
When connecting more than a single Glass Touchscreen, connect one device, assign a unique network address to it, then connect the next one. This way you avoid network address conflicts. It is now possible to set the following parameters: Device Name: Select an arbitrary name IP Address, subnet mask and gateway: setup these values to ensure that the Glass Touchscreen is able to reach the Programmer. If one of these values is modified the device is reset. IP and port number of the Programmer. It is mandatory that the HTTP-Server is running 3. Page groups: only Action Pad pages with a Page Group Name equal to this will be shown. Each page, which is created, may contain a Page Group Name (see settings below Action Pad Properties ). 3) Before LAS 5.3 the HTTP server was a driver in the Device Manager; with LAS 5.3 and later the HTTP server is started in the Application Options. 19
In this way only Action Pad pages for this Glass Touchscreen will be selectable Recommendations for e:net mode Action Pad pages for the Glass Touchscreen use a layout of 640 x 480 pixels. Larger layouts will be truncated to this size. It is recommended that the Glass Touchscreen is switched off when the Action Pad is modified within the Programmer. Otherwise the screen will be reloaded each time a modification has been made. It is recommended to use a maximum number of eight Action Pad pages. The number of elements per page should not exceed 30. For faders with background picture and/or fader button picture it is recommended not to use alpha settings. Recommended network bandwith is 100 Mbit/s 20
Firmware update To update the firmware on Glass Touchscreen proceed as follows: Visit register to download software. if not already registered. Go to Download Software Firmware Updates, download the update package for Glass Touchscreen. Save the ZIP file in a temporary directory on your hard disk. Copy the ZIP file from your hard disk to the root directory of an empty USB stick. Switch off the Glass Touchscreen, plug the prepared USB stick into the frontal USB interface and switch on the Glass Touchscreen again. The Glass Touchscreen will boot and install the updates without further notice. When the Glass Touchscreen shows the e:net/e:bus selection buttons, the update is complete. Remove the USB stick. 21
