5 1 About this document 1.1 Validity This document applies to the PTZ Controller WTX-2000, firmware version Documentation on the WTX-2000 The document entitled Installation and Operation contains detailed descriptions of the mounting, connection, commissioning and operation of the PTZ Controller. General notes on the product and technical data are additionally provided. Storage of documentation Store the documents in an accessible location near the product. Keep the documents in readable condition. Pass on all documents to each successive owner or user of the system. 1.3 Convention Various symbols and formats are used to maintain the clarity of the document. IMPORTANT The word IMPORTANT denotes information for preventing damage, incorrect configurations or incorrect actions. 7 2 Safety instructions Only use this unit if it is technically in proper working order, to the intended purpose and while keeping safety and potential dangers in mind. Have malfunctions or damages eliminated immediately! Appoint a professional Installation, mounting, connection, start-up and configuration of the unit may only be carried out by trained and authorized professionals (installers). Unless otherwise expressly specified, this also applies to the maintenance, testing and repair. Read and pay attention to the documents Carefully and completely read the documents included in delivery. Always pay attention to the provided instructions, notes and warnings. Regulations surveillance systems The use of video and audio surveillance systems is strictly regulated in most countries. Therefore, inform yourself on laws and regulations that govern individual applications before using the unit. Ensure compliance with these laws and regulations and also observe regulations regarding data, working and environmental protection. Do not make modifications Do not make any modifications to the unit (neither to the software nor the hardware) without consulting Dallmeier electronic. Improper modifications can cause malfunctions or damages. Dallmeier electronic accepts no liability for damages resulting from unauthorized or improper modifications to the unit. Protection against condensation water If the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, condensation water can form inside the unit. Short-circuits may then lead to damage to the system. Wait up to 8 hours for the unit to reach room temperature before starting it up. 7

8 PTZ Controller - WTX-2000 Observe the rated voltage The unit can be damaged or destroyed by the application of an incorrect voltage. The mains voltage must always match the rated voltage of the unit. The rated voltage is specified on the rating plate of the unit. Observe ratings Unsuitable ambient conditions and improper installation (mainly too high ambient temperature and insufficient ventilation) may reduce the unit s life cycle. Ensure compliance with the stated operating conditions (see technical data), requirements at the installation site and, if applicable, maintenance regulations. Expansion components/peripheral devices Use only expansion components conforming with the technical data of the unit. Inappropriate peripheral devices may result in the violation of local laws and regulations and damages to the unit. Furthermore, the use of peripheral devices that are not tested and approved by Dallmeier electronic results in loss of warranty. In case of doubt, contact the sales partner responsible for your area. Do not open the unit Do not open the housing of the unit. There are no components inside the unit that require maintenance by the user. The inspection, maintenance and repair with an open housing must only be carried out by trained and authorized professionals (installer). Penetration of foreign bodies and liquids No objects or liquids may be allowed to get into the device. In this case, immediately disconnect the unit from the power supply (pull out the power plug). Please contact the sales partner responsible for your area. Measures to be taken in the event of damage and burnt smell If you notice burnt smell or formation of smoke from a unit, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull out the power plug). Please contact the sales partner responsible for your area. 8

9 Disposal Disconnect the unit from the power supply. Remove all connected units and system components. Return the unit to your respective sales partner. 9

11 3 General Instructions 3.1 Scope of delivery The scope of delivery includes: 1 x WTX x Operating Instructions Installation and Operation 2 x Junction box 2 x Cable (6 pin, RJ11) 3.2 Transportation and packaging Store the original packaging for transportation at a later date. Dallmeier electronic is not responsible for damage resulting from unprofessional/improper transportation. The goods should only be shipped in their original packaging. If the original packaging is no longer available, ensure that the packaging used sufficiently protects the unit against damage, moisture, heat and cold. 3.3 Proper usage The WTX is designed as camera control system for indoor use. 3.4 Performance features Control of up to 255 cameras. Each channel supports 6 protocols. Position control via presets. Variable speed from 1 /sec to 90 /sec with manual operation. User password against unauthorized access. Master-slave operation for use of multiple control systems. NOTE For detailed information, please refer to the Technical Data sheet (see chap. 9). 11

15 5 Installation IMPORTANT First establish the connection between all units and then apply voltage to the PTZ Controller. 5.1 Connecting 1 PTZ Controller The power supply unit and control lines are connected to the junction box. > Open the junction box. RX+ +12V DC (500mA) TX+ RX- TX- -12V DC (Ground) Fig. 5-1 A two-wire line suitable for RS485 use should be used to connect the dome camera to the junction box. The manual of the respective dome camera contains information on the camera s connection assignment. Connect the dome camera to the junction box as shown below: Junction box Dome-camera TX- ---> RX- TX+ ---> RX+ RX- ---> TX- RX+ ---> TX+ > Connect the junction box to the mains supply (12 V DC). Ensure correct polarity of the supply line. The power supply unit is not included in delivery. 15

17 5.2 Connecting multiple PTZ Controllers Multiple PTZ Controllers can be connected together via several junction boxes (Master-Slave operation) to allow a dome camera to be controlled from different work stations. 19 7 Controlling and configuring the camera 7.1 Selecting a camera NOTE The camera number ( ) corresponds to the ID number that must be assigned to each dome camera. Please refer to the manual of the respective camera. 20 PTZ Controller - WTX Controlling the camera with the joystick After selecting the camera the joystick allows you to control the dome camera moving it to the desired direction. Fig. 7-3 Rotate the joystick head to zoom in or out. Fig Configuring the camera functions The dome camera must be configured before functions such as Preset, Group, Tour, Scan and Auto can be called up via the PTZ Controller. First select the camera to be configured. Example: Camera 2 (=ID2) > Press the 2 key. > Press the CAM key. 2 CAM > Press the 2 key again. > Press the MENU key for about 2-3 seconds. 2 MENU NOTE The menu shown on the screen depends on the camera type. Please refer to the manual of the respective camera. 20

Move the joystick to the left or right to call up a submenu or to change the settings of a menu item. Some settings can be changed by moving the joystick to the left / right or by rotating the joystick s head. For detailed information on how to configure the dome camera, please refer to the respective camera manual. 7.4 Calling up a camera function If the corresponding settings have been made in the camera menu, functions such as Preset, Group, Tour, Scan and Pattern (PELCO-D protocol) can be called up via the function keys F1 to F5. 23 8 Configuring the PTZ Controller 8.1 System setup The system setup allows you, for example, to change a camera s protocol or the way how to control a camera. > Press the 1 key. > Press the SET key for about 2-3 seconds. 1 SET Enter the password. 25 8.2 Controller setup The controller setup allows you, for example, to enter/change a password against unauthorized controller access or to define the controller as master/slave. > Press the 2 key. > Press the SET key for about 2-3 seconds. 2 SET Enter the password. If an own password has not already been assigned, enter the default password Use the joystick to navigate the menu. Selecting a menu item: up / down Change Setting: right / left Setting possibilities 1 PASSWORD for entering/changing a password. 2 OP MODE for defining the controller operating mode (master/slave). 3 SLEEP TIME for automatic activation of the idle mode if the controller is not used for 180 seconds. 4 FACTORY for resetting the controller to default. 5 JOYSTICK for reversing the joystick control. 6 VERSION firmware version. 7 LOGO DISP for selecting the display logo in the idle mode. 8 BUZZER for turning the buzzer on/off. 9 EXIT for leaving the setup menu. 25
