9 Introduction 7 Operating safety Important safety notes G WARNING Operating the integrated information systems and communications equipment in the vehicle while driving will distract you from traffic conditions. You could then lose control of the vehicle. There is a risk of an accident. Only operate these devices if road traffic conditions permit. If you are unsure about the surrounding conditions, pull over to a safe location and make entries only while the vehicle is stationary. Observe the legal requirements for the country you are currently in. Bear in mind that, at a speed of only 50 km/h, your vehicle is covering a distance of nearly 14 m per second. When using the device please follow: Rthe safety notes in these operating instructions Rtraffic laws and regulations Rlaws pertaining to motor vehicles and safety standards i Improper work on electronic components or other systems (such as the radio and disc slot) and their software may result in malfunction or failure. Even systems that have not been modified could be affected because the electronic systems are connected. Malfunctioning electronics can severely impair the operating safety of the vehicle. Therefore, have all work on and modifications to electronic components carried out at a qualified specialist workshop. The CD radio can be used to receive radio stations as well as to play back audio compact discs and other data carriers. Additionally, the Bluetooth CD radio can make calls via the Bluetooth function. Observe the specified requirements for data carriers and permissible formats. Equipment This Supplement describes the CD radio with all standard and optional equipment available at the time of going to print. Country-specific deviations are possible. Bear in mind that the CD radio may not be equipped with all of the functions described. This also applies to safety-relevant systems and functions. The equipment level of your CD radio may therefore differ from that shown in some descriptions and illustrations. Contact a Mercedes- Benz Service Centre if you have any questions about equipment or operation. This Supplement is an integral part of the vehicle. Keep it in the vehicle along with the Operating Instructions. Declaration of conformity Radio-based vehicle components The following note applies to all radio-based components of the vehicle and the information systems and communication devices integrated in the vehicle: i The components of the vehicle which receive and/or transmit radio waves are compliant with the basic requirements and all other relevant regulations stipulated by Directive 1999/5/EC. You can obtain further information from any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Correct use Electromagnetic compatibility The electromagnetic compatibility of the vehicle components has been checked and certified according to the currently valid version of Regulation ECE-R 10. X To return to the CD basic display: press the % back button. Notes on MP3 mode Permissible discs Your audio device supports playback from CD-R and CD-RW. Permissible file systems Your audio equipment is capable of playing CDs burnt with the ISO9660/Joliet file system. Track and folder names When you create a disc with compressed music files, you can assign names to the tracks and folders. The CD radio uses these names for the corresponding display. Folders containing files other than MP3 or WMA tracks are not displayed. If MP3 or WMA files are stored in the root directory itself, the root directory will also be treated as a folder. The CD radio then shows the directory name "Root" as the folder name. You should observe the following when assigning track names: Rtrack names must be at least one character long. Rumlauts cannot be used when naming tracks. Rtrack names must have the extension "mp3" or "wma". Rthere must be a full stop between the track name and the extension. Example of a correct track name: "Track1.mp3" Permissible formats The equipment supports the following types of MP3 file: Rconstant and variable bit rates from 32 kbit/s to 320 kbit/s Rsampling rates of 8 khz to 48 khz The equipment supports the following types of WMA file: Rconstant bit rates from 8 kbit/s to 384 kbit/s Rsampling rates of 8 khz to 48 khz The equipment does not support the following types of WMA file: RDRM (Digital Rights Management) encrypted files Rvariable bit rate RWMA Pro R5.1 Surround Audio Z

46 44 Audio AUX mode Audio i Only use tracks with a bit rate of at least 128 kbit/s and a sampling rate of at least 44.1 khz. Lower rates can cause a noticeable deterioration in quality. Notes on copyright MP3 or WMA tracks that you create or play back are generally subject to copyright protection in accordance with the applicable international and national regulations. In many countries, reproductions, even for private use, are not permitted without the prior consent of the copyright holder. Ensure that you are familiar with the applicable copyright regulations and that you comply with these. If you own these rights yourself, e.g. for your own compositions and recordings, or if the copyright holder has granted you permission, these restrictions do not apply. Notes about discs Discs with copy protection are not compatible with the audio CD standard and therefore it may not be possible to play them. Playing back copied discs may result in playback errors. There are a large variety of discs, disc-writing software and writers available. Because of this variety, it is impossible to guarantee that the system will be able to play every disc you have copied yourself. There may be playback problems if you play CDs that you have copied yourself with a storage capacity of more than 700 MB. CDs of this type do not conform to the currently applicable standards.! Do not affix stickers or labels to the discs. They could peel off and damage the drive. The drive is designed to hold discs which comply with the EN60908 standard. Therefore, you can only use discs with a maximum thickness of 1.3 mm. If you insert thicker discs, e.g. those that contain data on both sides (DVD on one side and audio data on the other), they cannot be ejected and can damage the drive. Do not use discs with a diameter of 8 cm, even with an adapter. Only use round discs with a diameter of 12 cm. Audio AUX mode Notes on audio AUX mode The different volumes of external audio sources may result in a significantly increased volume during system messages (e.g. traffic messages). System messages may need to be deactivated or their volume manually adjusted. External audio sources can be connected to the CD radio in the following ways: Rusing the front AUX IN socket Rusing the rear AUX jack. If fitted with an AUX input in the berth, the AUX input in the berth is connected to the rear AUX jack. For the AUX jack on the rear side you will require an adapter cable from Mercedes-Benz accessories. External audio sources can be played back as follows: Rusing its own loudspeakers Rusing the CD radio loudspeakers Note the type of playback when connecting external audio devices. i Do not use the external audio device with a mains power stage connected to the vehicle's 12 V power supply. This may audibly impair playback quality.

For information on how to operate the external audio device; see the respective operating instructions. Notes on operating external audio equipment The front AUX input becomes an active audio source as soon as playback begins from an external device connected to the front AUX input. In this way you can, for example, have voice messages from an external navigation system played through the loudspeakers of the CD radio. i Charging the external equipment using a charge adapter and the vehicle power supply may cause the front AUX input to be selected unintentionally, without the external equipment being switched to playback. i The AUX input is optimised for external equipment that has an AUX output. If external equipment is connected that can only be used with a headphone output, the signal strength of the external equipment may be too weak to activate the AUX input automatically. i When adjusting the volume, always do so on the external device. The system does not switch to the external audio source during a telephone call. The following options are available for the rear AUX input: R External AUX When the external audio source activates the mute signal, the CD radio switches to the rear AUX input. Playback then occurs through the loudspeakers of the CD radio. RExternal mute When the external audio source activates the mute signal, the CD radio is muted. Playback from the external audio device then occurs through the device's own loudspeakers. Selecting options X In the AUX input menu, press V the The AUX functions menu is shown. X Turn 3 the controller to select the desired input. X To go back to the AUX input menu: press the % back button.
