You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. 1. TEAC warrants that this product is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal domestic use with reasonable care and skill. Maintenance and cleaning (i.e. laser head) is not covered by this warranty. The TEAC warranty only applies to TEAC products purchased NEW from a TEAC Authorised Retailer in Australia. This warranty only applies to the original purchaser and cannot be transferred. 2. The benefits to the consumer given by this Warranty are in addition to other rights and remedies of the consumer under a law in relation to goods or services to which the warranty relates, being the Australian Consumer Law. 3. Refund or replacement via your TEAC Authorised Retailer is available for a period of 14 days after purchase for goods that have been inspected and determined to have a major failure. Refund and exchange is not applicable for change of mind. 4. Subject to the terms herein, this warranty effectively covers TEAC products under the 12 Month Repair Warranty Scheme, 12 months from the date of original purchase. 5. The warranty is void and warranty claims may be refused, subject to the Australian Consumer Law, if: a) The product was not transported, installed, operated or maintained according to manufacturer instruction, or b) The product was abused, damaged, tampered, altered or repaired by any unauthorised persons, or c) Product failure is due to accidents during use, installation or transit, power surges, use of defective or incompatible external devices, exposure to abnormal conditions such as excessive temperatures or humidity, or entry of liquids, objects or creatures into the product, cockroach infestations, or d) The customer is unable to provide proof of purchase of the product for verification, or e) The serial number of the product is missing or has been tampered with. 6. No one is authorised to assume any liability on behalf of TEAC or impose any obligation on it, in connection with the sale of any equipment other than as stated in this warranty and outlined above. 7. TEAC and/or its Authorised Service Centres reserve the right to inspect and verify whether the product is exhibiting a major failure as claimed by customers/retailers.

Lay this equipment on a stable, flat surface before setting it up. Do not stand it on soft furniture. 7 UNIT & REMOTE CONTROL OVERVIEW Front and Rear Panel 1. LOOP OUT: Connect this to the antenna input jack of another device (like your TV) 2. ANT IN: Connect to the antenna socket on your wall 3. SPDIF: Connect to the TV for digital audio output (optional) 4. HD-OUT: HDMI connection for full high definition audio and video 5. CVBS/R/L: Composite AV connection for standard definition audio and video 6. Y/Pb/Pr: Component AV connection for high definition audio and video 7. DV12V: Connect to a power supply Note: Disconnect the power supply before making or changing connections. 4

Ensure that there are no obstacles blocking the signal. If the signal becomes weak, you may need to replace the batteries with new ones. Installing/replacing Remote Control Batteries Open the battery cap at the back of the remote control. Insert 2 new AAA batteries into the battery compartment. Ensure that the batteries +/- polarities match the printed guides. Replace the battery compartment cover. 5

9 INITIAL SET UP After completing the connection from this unit to the TV, turn the power on from your wall power outlet. Turn on your TV and switch to the corresponding input mode to receive the picture from the unit. When the unit is turned on for the first time, it enters the Initial Setup menu. 1. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to move between menu items. 2. Press OK/LIST to display all the options, then use UP/DOWN to highlight a desired option. 3. Press OK again to confirm your selection. 4. To finish, highlight Auto Search, then press OK to scan for channels. Scanning will take up to several minutes. Channel Scanning (Auto Search) Note: When choosing a Video Resolution, you will be prompted to confirm after the picture changes, to ensure that the new resolution works correctly on your TV. Use the LEFT/RIGHT buttons to choose between Yes/No/Cancel, then press OK to confirm. 6

10 WATCHING TV Program info For details about the current program playing on the TV, press the INFO button. View the full description for the program by pressing the INFO button a second time. Changing channels You can change channels with the CH+/- buttons. To see the complete list of channels, press the OK button. To choose a channel from this list, press UP/DOWN and then press OK to confirm. You can also change channels while viewing the EPG (detailed below in "Using the EPG") If you have a Favourite channels list set up, you can press the CH.FAV button to bring up the list. Then select the desired list and channel with the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT buttons, and press OK to go to that channel. Using the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) The Electronic Program Guide (EPG) provides the program schedule for Digital TV up to 7 days in advance. To view the EPG, press the EPG button on the remote control. The list that appears is the schedule for the current channel that is broadcasting on the TV. You can press the EPG button again to switch between the Vertical and Horizontal EPG layouts, shown in the following figures: 7

11 Horizontal EPG Vertical EPG Follow the on-screen button hints at the bottom of the screen for navigation and setting up recordings/reminders. 8

12 Channel Management The Channel Edit menu lets you make personal changes to the program listings. To access this menu: 1. Press the MENU button, press the RIGHT button to select "Channel", and press OK. 2. Channel Edit is password protected. Key in the correct password. (Default password: 0000) 3. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to choose Channel Edit and press OK. 4. Customise your channels as desired referring to on-screen button hints and the detailed descriptions on the next page. 5. To finish, press the EXIT button to exit the menu entirely. 9

13 PLAY: Press the OK button to play the highlighted channel. Exit the menu to watch in full screen. FAVOURITE: You can save a list of favourite channels. Select the channel you want and press the CH.FAV/Number 1 button. The Favourites List menu will pop up highlight the desired list(s) and press the GREEN button so that a check mark appears beside the list name. To remove channels from the Favourites list, come back to the same menu, then press the GREEN button again on the list name to uncheck it. Note: While in the Favourites List menu, you can press the Number 2 button to rename the highlighted list. DELETE: To completely delete a channel off your list, select the channel to delete and press the YELLOW button. A confirmation message will pop up. Use the LEFT/RIGHT buttons to choose Yes to confirm the deletion, or No to cancel. Press OK to finish. If you need to find this channel again later, please use Auto Tune or Manual Tune to search for it. LOCK: Password protect specific channels with this command. Select the channel to be locked and press the BLUE button. To remove the lock on a locked channel, select it and press the BLUE button again to remove the "lock" symbol. Note: You can change your password, and also password protect programs based on their viewer rating (PG/MA, etc) by going to Settings Menu > Parental Control. Delete All Channels You can delete all channels at once using this function. This will delete all Channel customisation settings also. 1. Press MENU and go to the Channel Edit menu with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons. 2. Highlight Delete All Channels and press OK. 3. Key in the password, then confirm whether you want to proceed. Note: When all channels are deleted, the unit will enter the menu automatically instead of showing broadcasted TV programs. If you need to watch TV again with this unit, scan for channels once more follow the instructions in the next pages. 10

14 Channel Scanning If you have deleted some or all the channels, you can scan for channels once more without having to do a full factory reset: 1. Press MENU and go to the Installation menu with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons. 2. Choose DTV Auto or Manual Search and press OK to proceed. Auto Search Manual Search 11

15 Channel Backup & Recovery Using a USB flash drive, you can back up your customised Channel settings and load it again later. 1. Connect a compatible USB flash drive. If the USB drive cannot be detected, you may need to format it first (PVR Menu > Storage > press the RED button). 2. Press MENU and go to the Installation menu with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons. 3. Highlight Database Export to USB. You should see a progress bar show up on the screen. 4. When you need to recover your settings later, connect the same USB flash drive, then come back to the Backup & Recovery menu, and choose Data Import from USB. 12

16 RECORDING PROGRAMS (PVR) Note: By default, this unit uses the built-in hard drive. If you choose to record to an external drive (like a flash drive or hard disk drive in FAT32 format), it must be compatible, connected and running. You can change the location of the recorded program in the PVR Settings menu. NOT all USB devices, such as phones, MP3 players, cameras, and the like, are compatible with recording TV programs. We recommend using USB Flash Drives, or external HDDs with a separate power supply. RECOMMENDED: Format the data storage unit before doing any recording to ensure that it is in the correct file system format and that there is enough data space for recording. WARNING: Ensure that no valuable information is currently stored in the connected data storage unit, as the formatting process means that ALL DATA will be ERASED. TEAC does not take responsibility for lost data. While recording functions are running, DO NOT disconnect the data storage unit, to avoid damage or data loss. PVR Settings If you need to check or adjust the PVR settings, follow the steps below: 1. Press the MENU button and go to the PVR menu with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons. 2. Highlight "PVR Setting" with the UP/DOWN buttons and press OK. 3. Highlight menu items with the UP/DOWN buttons and adjust with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons. 13

17 Instant recording Record on demand whenever you need it. 1. To start recording, press the RECORD ( ) button on the remote control. While recording, "REC" is shown on the unit's display. 2. To stop recording, press the STOP button. RECORDING WHILE ON STANDBY You can also put the unit on Standby Mode while still recording: 1. Press the POWER button. You will be asked whether you intend to stop recording or continue recording. 2. Use the LEFT/RIGHT buttons to highlight your choice. 3. Press the OK button to confirm and turn the unit to Standby Mode. If recording is still in progress, you can see that the "REC" is shown on the display. Scheduled recording Schedule recordings ahead of time recording can even start while the unit is in Standby Mode, so you don't need to keep it on. SCHEDULE VIA EPG This is a quick and easy way to schedule recordings according to programs available in the EPG, which lists the broadcast schedule up to 7 days in advance. 1. In DTV Mode, press the EPG button. 2. Using the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT buttons, find the desired program and highlight it. 3. Press the RED button and a red "REC" icon will show on the program. Note: If you are trying to schedule too many recordings at once, you will get an error message from the Timer Conflict Manager. The twin tuner can record up to 2 different channels at the same time. 14

18 SCHEDULE MANUALLY Use this method if you wish to manually set a start time and recording length for a scheduled recording. 1. Press the SCHED. button, then the RED button. (Alternatively, press the EPG button, then the RECORD ( ) button.) 2. The "Timer" menu will now display. Customise each detail by highlighting them with the UP/DOWN buttons, then adjust the values with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons. 3. To finish, press the OK button and your newly scheduled item will appear on the list. CHECK AND DELETE SCHEDULED ITEMS 1. Press the SCHED. button for the Schedule List. 2. If you want to sort the items on the list, press the BLUE button and use the UP/DOWN buttons to highlight the sort preference, then press the OK button. 3. If you want to delete an item on the list, use the UP/DOWN buttons to highlight the desired item, then press the GREEN button. If you want to delete all items on the list, press the YELLOW button. 4. Choose "Yes/No" and press OK to finish. 15

19 Recorded programs list Quickly access your recorded TV programs with this list. 1. Press the PVR LIST button to view the Recorded File Browser. 2. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to highlight a desired file. 3. To start playback of that file, press the OK button. 4. To delete a highlighted file, press the GREEN button to mark it, then the YELLOW button to delete. (If you need to quickly select all files, press the RED button, then "Select All".) 5. To copy a file from the built-in hard drive to a connected USB drive, highlight the file, the press the RED button and select Copy. Press OK to continue and choose "To USB". Press OK to finish. (Note: You can copy from USB to HDD also.) Note: To close the pop up option list that appears when using the RED button, press the MENU button. 16

20 Time Shift (Pause live TV) "Time Shift" is a handy feature to "pause" live TV programs via a temporary recording function, which you may find helpful if you are interrupted for a few minutes during your show. It ensures that you don't miss a single second of the show because you can return to the TV later and continue watching from where you stopped. 1. To start Time Shift, simply press the PAUSE/PLAY button and the temporary recording will start immediately. 2. To watch from where you started Time Shift, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. You can use the standard playback control buttons on your Time Shift temporary recording, for example: to skip parts such as commercial breaks with the FAST FORWARD button, or pause and play again with the PLAY/PAUSE button. 3. To exit Time Shift completely and go back to the live TV broadcast, press the STOP button. Note: If the storage space is running low, recording may not start, or be interrupted halfway. WARNING: While Time Shift or other recording functions are running, DO NOT disconnect power or the data storage unit, to avoid damage or data loss. 17

21 USB MEDIA PLAYBACK Switching to Media Browser The Media Browser will list compatible movie and music files that you can play on this unit. 1. Press the MENU button, then in the PVR Menu, choose "Media Browser". 2. Press the UP/DOWN buttons to highlight the desired data storage drive. 3. Press OK to confirm and navigate the contents of the selected drive. 4. To play a file, highlight it and press the OK button. To go from a video preview to full screen mode, press OK a second time. Note: The media player will automatically play the next file after the current file ends. Switching to Picture Browser The Picture Browser will list compatible picture files that you can play as a slide show on this unit. 1. Press the MENU button, then in the PVR Menu, choose "Picture Browser". 2. Press the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT buttons to highlight the desired data storage drive. 3. Press OK to confirm and navigate the contents of the selected drive. 4. To play a file, highlight it and press the OK button. 18

22 SYSTEM SETTINGS The Settings menu allows customisation of technical input/output settings, date/time, language, and parental control/password settings. You can also upgrade the firmware (downloadable from or reset the unit to its initial condition. 1. Press the MENU button, the press LEFT/RIGHT to go to the Settings menu. 2. Press UP/DOWN to select a desired item. 3. Press OK on the item to view the list of options, or to access it. 4. Different items behave differently. You may be able to press LEFT/RIGHT to adjust the settings or press UP/DOWN to highlight an item within a list and then OK to confirm your choice. 5. Press MENU to close the current submenu or EXIT to quit the OSD menu entirely. Audio & Video Setting Video resolution: adjust the video output resolution to suit your TV. TV aspect ratio: adjust the aspect ratio to suit your TV. (16:9 for flat screen TVs) Aspect ratio conversions: adjust how the picture fills your TV screen. Digital audio format: adjust the digital audio output format for your amplifier. 19

23 OSD Setting OSD transparency: adjust menu transparency. OSD timeout: adjust the timer for the OSD to hide automatically. Language setting: adjust the language presented in the OSD. Auto standby mode: turn on/off for automatic standby. Time Setting Mode: choose between Auto and Manual time settings. Display current date: current date can be adjusted if set to Manual. Display current time: current time can be adjusted if set to Manual. Region: choose your locality. 20

24 Parental Control Parental rating: choose a program rating threshold for locking programs automatically. Setting menu: turn the lock on/off for the Setting menu. PVR menu: turn the lock on/off for the PVR menu. New password: key in a new password twice to change it. PVR Setting The PVR Setting menu is Time Shifting duration: set the time shift duration limit. Recording storage: choose between Internal HDD or a connected USB drive. Playback start position: if you like the video to play from where it was last stopped, choose resume. Default record duration: default time limit for recording programs. 21

25 System Information View technical information about the unit. Firmware Update If you have downloaded a new firmware from and put it on a USB drive, you can run it with this function. You need to key in the password to access this function. 1. Format the USB drive to the FAT32 file system before you start the process. 2. Download and save the firmware (HDR2250T.mupg) to the root directory of the USB drive. 3. Insert the USB drive into the USB port in front of the HDR2250T unit. 4. Press the MENU button, then press the LEFT/RIGHT buttons to go to the Settings menu. 5. Press DOWN to highlight Firmware Upgrade and press OK. 6. Enter the password (default: 0000). 7. Start the firmware upgrade by pressing the RED button. 8. Press OK to select the firmware. 9. Wait for the firmware to install itself. DO NOT shut off power. Once done, the unit comes back to the Initial Setup Menu. 10. Press EXIT to quit the Initial Setup Menu. 11. Repeat steps 4 to 9. This is done to fully overwrite the entire firmware on the unit. 12. When you are back at the Initial Setup Menu, scroll down to select Auto Search. 13. Press OK to re-scan all the channels. 14. You can check and confirm the software version in System Information under the Settings menu. Note: All user settings, channels and scheduled timers will be erased during firmware upgrades. Contact TEAC Australia if you require support at Factory Default Reset the unit's settings to factory defaults, so that you can run it as if it were new. This will delete all customised settings. You need to key in the password to access this function. 22
