1 September Rev. 00 Applicability Installation Guidelines Replacing an Allegro with an Allegro MX-1 This document is applicable to the components or categories listed below: Software Hardware Mechanical Packaging About This Document This document is intended for Operators of TouchTunes digital jukeboxes, TouchTunes Field Service, Customer Support, and Sales personnel. It describes best practices for achieving optimal audio quality when replacing an Allegro jukebox with an Allegro MX-1. Overview TouchTunes has identified several commonly used configurations for Allegro jukebox installations. In an effort to ensure that Operators enjoy as closely as possible and with a minimum of installation effort a comparable audio experience with their new Allegro MX-1, these configurations are identified in this document and are accompanied by recommendations for installation of the Allegro MX-1. When installing the Allegro MX-1, the following important points should be noted: IMPORTANT: Because of the different technologies employed in designing the Allegro jukebox and the Allegro MX-1, your existing satellite speakers and their associated wiring cannot be used with the Allegro MX-1. A mismatch in impedance between the two systems may cause undesired results, such as clipping, if you attempt to connect the Allegro s Bose 141 satellite speakers to the Allegro MX-1. Some minor speaker wiring adjustments may be required when installing the Allegro MX-1. IMPORTANT: For similar reasons, you should not attempt to mix and match speakers, connecting MX-1 speakers to a standard Allegro. Although equipment damage is unlikely, the resulting audio quality will suffer. Note: If you intend to re-use the Crown amplifier from your Allegro in your new Allegro MX-1 installation (for example, daisy-chained from the through port of the 3-channel DA415+ amplifier), you must locate the amplifier in a secure location external to the jukebox. Unlike the Allegro, the enclosure of the Allegro MX-1 does not provide sufficient space to accommodate an additional amplifier. 1 of 18

3 Scenario 1 Recommended MX-1 Installation Disconnect internal speakers in MX-1. Connect JCB s Zone 2 audio to channels A and B of the DA channel amplifier using an RJ45 splitter (available from TouchTunes, p/n ). Connect 4 external MX-1 satellite speakers to left and right inputs of channels A and B of the DA channel amplifier. Note Using channels A and B in this manner is necessary in order to achieve proper impedance and sound quality. As an alternative to using an RJ45 splitter, you can synchronize Zone 2 and 3 on the jukebox, and then connect them to channels A and B, respectively on the amplifier. Bass box ZONE 1 ZONE 2 3 of 18

10 Speaker Wiring Guide This section provides important information concerning connecting speakers to the DA415 amplifier. Before continuing with speaker connections, it is strongly recommended that you read this section thoroughly. Note: The following examples are applicable to the DA415 4-channel amplifier only. CAUTION: The DA415 amplifier has been specifically designed for use with 4-ohm speakers. Using speakers of a lower impedance may cause severe damage to the amplifier. Furthermore, if 8-ohm speakers are to be used, they must be wired in parallel in order to provide a 4-ohm load to the amplifier. CAUTION: Bose model 141 speakers will not function with either the 3-channel or 4-channel DA415 amplifier. Do not attempt connection of these speakers. Similarly, wiring two pairs of Bose model 301 speakers in parallel will result in unsatisfactory performance and may cause damage to your equipment. Example 1: TouchTunes PerforMax Pro 2-Way Speakers This example illustrates wiring of TouchTunes PerforMax Pro 2-way speakers (maximum 4 per channel) for a total impedance load of 4 ohms. 11 Example 2: Bose 301 Speakers This example illustrates wiring of Bose 301 speakers (maximum 4 per channel) for a total impedance load of 6 ohms. Tone Controls and Equalization Tone Controls As with the Allegro, bass and treble adjustments are made using the sound mixer controls on the Operator interface.

TouchTunes strongly recommends that you listen to a variety of different music selections and genres, at the lowest and highest volumes you intend to permit for use at

If you are connecting a TouchTunes PerforMax Quad Sound System (or other outboard equalization equipment) to your Allegro MX-1, TouchTunes recommends that you leave the

12 Tone Controls and Equalization Tone Controls As with the Allegro, bass and treble adjustments are made using the sound mixer controls on the Operator interface. When setting up your Allegro MX-1, set the jukebox s tone controls to flat, initially, and adjust as required. TouchTunes strongly recommends that you listen to a variety of different music selections and genres, at the lowest and highest volumes you intend to permit for use at your locations, before finalizing these settings. DSP Equalization TouchTunes newest generation JCB computer boasts DSP technology for improved audio quality, equalization, and noise reduction. The DSP EQ feature is not intended for use with additional equalizers and is, by default, turned off in the jukebox software. If you are connecting a TouchTunes PerforMax Quad Sound System (or other outboard equalization equipment) to your Allegro MX-1, TouchTunes recommends that you leave the DSP equalization feature off, as the audio quality resulting from double equalization is unpredictable. If you are experiencing audio problems, verify the status of the DSP equalization feature. To do so: 1. From the main Operator interface, select the Sound menu, and then select Zone 1 Out (or the zone where your PerforMax Quad system is connected). PerforMax equalizer - OR- Other EQ 2. Check whether JCB DSP EQ is turned on or off. 12 of 18

Jukebox Placement Maximum performance of your Allegro MX-1 speaker system is greatly influenced by placement of the jukebox.

Placing the jukebox against two boundaries, such as two walls (corner), will increase the amount of bass output significantly.

Note, however, that mid and high frequencies may also be affected by such placement. When you must place the jukebox in a corner avoid placing it directly against the corner.

13 Jukebox Placement Maximum performance of your Allegro MX-1 speaker system is greatly influenced by placement of the jukebox. Follow the general guidelines below to ensure the best possible subjective performance from your system. Placing the jukebox against two boundaries, such as two walls (corner), will increase the amount of bass output significantly. Each surface that the sound bounces off increases the sound pressure level (SPL) of bass by as much as 6 db in the interior of the room. Note, however, that mid and high frequencies may also be affected by such placement. When you must place the jukebox in a corner avoid placing it directly against the corner. For best results place the jukebox with its two bass port openings on the rear as close to the wall as possible and at least two feet from the corner. Minimum 2 ft. Bass ports Transport rails Make sure the port openings are not covered in any way. The pedestal base and transport rails on the rear of the Allegro MX-1 will allow you to place the jukebox directly against a wall while still providing the minimum adequate clearance (approximately 3 inches) between the wall and the bass ports. Experiment with placement of your jukebox to determine the best subjective audio performance. 13 of 18
