3 1 Product Overview OpenManage Essentials (OME) is a systems management console that provides simple, basic Dell hardware management and is available as a free download. OpenManage Essentials is an easy to install, intuitive and simple to use systems management console solution optimized for monitoring and managing Dell enterprise and remote office/business office-class hardware. 5 1.1 Lab Preparation Considerations and Caveats It is in your best interests to ensure the demo environment you will be demonstrating is clean & tidy before you begin. For this reason we would recommend, where possible, you log in to your demo at least 15 minutes prior to delivery and check the following; 1. Familiarize yourself with the environment during this time and check any specific features you are expecting to demo. 2. Most importantly, be crystal clear with yourself on what it is you plan to show. A full demo of every feature described below (with questions) can take several hours. If you only have a short time slot be sure to focus on the key points that address the customer s pain points and will drive value home to them. 3. Ensure that you have scheduled the demo for sufficient time so as not to have the demo end before you are finished with the customer. Any other guidance on how the user should prepare for the lab can be added here. If there are limitation or something the user should be aware of call out also. 5 Dell Demo Center Dell Inc., 2016

7 3 Demo Lab Lab 1 Demo Environment The OpenManage Essentials (OME) demo environment is a mix of live and static data. The live R630 can be found at the IP Open OME by clicking on the OpenManage Essentials shortcut on the desktop. 2. OME starts on the Home Portal page. The page view is customizable by the user Lab 2 Discover and Inventory Systems with idrac In this lab, you will discover the idrac using WS-MAN protocol. 1. 8 2. Right click All Ranges and Add Discovery Range 3. Fill out the following information: a. IP address / range: (IP of your R630 idrac 8) b. Name: R630 8 Dell Demo Center Dell Inc., 2016

13 3.1.3 Lab 3 OS Deployment and Configuration Management Navigate to Getting Started with Configuration Management - Deployment 1. Click on Deployment Tab 2. 22 m. On this page you can specify unique attributes for this system deployment or multiple systems by importing csv file For example edit: Check ServerTopology 1 Data Center Name and type LAB1 n. 23 q. Click Next and then Finish r. Deployment will take quite a bit of time, if you decide to continue you can monitor progress via the idrac remote console Lab 5 Configuration and Compliance 1. 25 Click - Add New Credentials and enter Description idrac User Name: root Password: calvin Click next, finish. Click Yes to view task status and wait until complete. 3. 37 3.1.7 Lab 7 OME Reports In this lab, we will run several reports from the information contained in the OME database. 1. Select Reports ->Hard Drive Information to see detail information 2. Next, we ll customize a report to more easily find information regarding hard drives. By dragging a column heading to the grey sort bar you can customize the view. 3. Select Revision 4. 38 7. Now you can expand one of the revision numbers to visualize the Service Tag and then any drives with the revision number that are installed in the device. 8. Select FRU Information. 38 Dell Demo Center Dell Inc., 2016

41 OME 2.0 DellTechCenter WIKI Lab 8 OMM 1.1 Review OpenManage Mobile Overview DELL OpenManage Mobile version 1.1 is an Android application that enables you to remotely and securely perform a subset of datacenter monitoring and server remediation tasks from your handheld device. OpenManage Mobile connects to your datacenter through the DELL OpenManage Essentials version 1.3 and up hardware management console. This allows a user to monitor all systems managed by OpenManage Essentials such as DELL Servers, Storage, Networking, and Firewall appliances and any other supported third party appliance from your android mobile device. OpenManage Mobile can also connect to a DELL PowerEdge servers directly through the idrac interface. Once connected, a user can perform several basic management functions on the server. OpenManage Mobile can connect to a server through idrac in two possible ways: 1) Remotely using Wi-Fi or Broadband network from anywhere. 2) Physically at the data center using Near Field Communications (NFC) technology. This requires a DELL 13G PowerEdge server (R630, R730, R730 XD) that is equipped with an idrac Quick Sync Bezel.
