3 1 Product Overview SanDisk DAS Cache is a direct-attached storage application acceleration solution brought to you by Dell that improves server utilization and increases workload performance. Use in VMware vsphere, Red Hat or SUSE Linux, or Windows Server environments to accelerate workloads like OLTP, OLAP and business analytics. Integrate easily into your existing environment without compromising your data indexing, search analytics, HPC, file systems, CRM or ERP. Expand cache in your server and keep performance high as your data grows. Reap the rewards of application acceleration, exceptional IO performance and reduced latency for your direct-attached storage environment by adding SanDisk DAS Cache. 1.1 Lab Preparation Considerations and Caveats It is in your best interests to ensure the demo environment you will be demonstrating is clean & tidy before you begin. For this reason we would recommend, where possible, you log in to your demo at least 15 minutes prior to delivery and check the following; 1. Familiarize yourself with the environment during this time and check any specific features you are expecting to demo. 2. Most importantly, be crystal clear with yourself on what it is you plan to show. A full demo of every feature described below (with questions) can take several hours. If you only have a short time slot be sure to focus on the key points that address the customer s pain points and will drive value home to them. 3. 4 2 Introduction In this document you will find a demo script illustrating the main features of SanDisk DAS Cache. SanDisk DAS Cache is an application acceleration technology for a direct-attached storage (DAS), non-shared server environment. This server caching solution brings data closer to compute and caches reads and writes 1 to accelerate applications. The SanDisk DAS Cache software uses Express Flash PCIe, SAS or SATA SSDs as a cache for active working data sets, which accelerates response times for data intensive workloads. This software solution is 100% customer installable. This demo gives the customer a quick overview of SanDisk DAS Cache. The workload as well as the type of I/O that you use in this example may not be the same workload that the customer is using in their production environment - therefore the results will differ. Be aware that this is just a demo environment; and concentrate on the performance improvement with caching, the ease of installation and management onto the hardware-ready Dell PowerEdge server, as well as the price and support which are all provided by Dell. In the demo show them the very good IOPS that can be achieved on a Dell PowerEdge server with HDDs with the un-cached example volume; and then compare this to the significantly higher IOPS achieved with SanDisk DAS Cache enabled caching the HDD volume into SSDs as a cache. 6 3 Cached & Non-Cached workload using Lometer 3.1 Introduction Show that SanDisk DAS Cache and the Iometer are both already installed on your demo machine. Start the Iometer program and if you are not used to working with the Iometer, get familiar with the interface. 3.2 Starting Lometer of the un-cached workload From the desktop launch the Not Accelerated shortcut 6 Dell Demo Center Dell Inc., 2016

8 Note: Remark that this performance achieved is a very fast speed for a Dell PowerEdge Server with HDDs. Stopping the Iometer of the un-cached workload Close out the dialer screen, and go back to Iometer interface. 15 7 Call to action & next steps With training at a close you should be able to demonstrate how to use SanDisk DAS Cache to accelerate volumes in your Dell PowerEdge server for direct-attached, non shared storage environments. 1. Familiarize yourself with documents on SalesEdge or Partner Direct, and send customers a link to their local dell.com page for SanDisk DAS Cache page in their region. 2. As you speak with your customers about their workloads and Dell PowerEdge Servers, ask how they could add SanDisk DAS Cache software plus a few SSDs to their DAS environments to get increased application performance for their direct-attached storage.
