3 What Is Digital Deterrent? Digital Deterrent is a feature that is built into Speco Technologies TN Series and PC based DVRs. With either Event Recording (Motion) or Alarm In activated in your Speco DVR, this feature can generate both Light and Sound warning indicators. What You Will Need: Strobe or Emergency Light (+12VDC or 24VAC) w/power Supply and Aux Relay (if required). Powered Speaker (+12VDC) for shorter distances (100 feet or less) or Audio Amplifier with either a 4, 8 Ohm or 70/25V output. Speaker or Horn with 4, 8 Ohm or 70/25V input. 4 How to Configure the Digital Deterrent In Your Speco Technologies DVR Strobe or Emergency Light Each DVR has an internal relay that can be used to activate the Strobe or Lamp. (Relays are rated for 1 Amp.) Below is a basic schematic for the Installation of a Strobe. If this is an outdoor installation, please choose a weatherproof device. Speaker Your options for the speaker selection are: Powered speaker recommended for runs 100 feet or less. 4 or 8 Ohm passive speaker or horn powered by an external amplifier 70/25V Speaker or horn powered by an amplifier with that output capability. 7 In addition to the relay output on the PC-8, there is an Open Collector output (pin 7) that may be used for the Strobe or Emergency Lamp. This output can sink up to 250ma maximum. If more sink current is required, it is recommended that an Altronix RBSNTTL Relay Module is utilized. 8 Speaker Connections The audio output configurations for the PC-8, PC-16 and TN Series DVRs are outlined below: PC-8 and PC-16: The audio output for these devices use a 3.5 mm stereo jack on the rear of the unit (see the picture above). This is a line level output so the speaker options for this feature are: 1. A powered speaker such as an AES-4 Speco Technologies 10 Watt Extension Speaker. This speaker will require a separate 12VDC power supply that can support up to 1 amp of current. Please note that this speaker is only to be used for indoor applications. 2. A conventional 4 or 8 Ohm passive speaker or horn. This option will require a separate amplifier. See the diagram below: 3. A 25 or 70V speaker or horn. This option will require a separate 70/25V amplifier. 9 PC-8 and 16 DVR Programming for Digital Deterrent The Camera Input(s) that will be used in conjunction with Digital Deterrent must be set up for Alarm and/or Motion Detection).The following screen captures illustrate the DVR setup for Digital Deterrent. The default record mode for the PC-8 and PC-16 is Motion recording. Reference Pages 13 and 14 in the User Manual for Setup of Motion Recording, pages for Sensor activation and page 62 for setting up the Record Schedule. 12 Using the User Defined Digital Deterrent Function Creating a digital deterrent audio file Plug a line level microphone into the audio input of the DVR and talk into the microphone while the DVR is recording. Remember the time that you started the recording. The maximum length of your audio file is 5 seconds. Press the Search button and put that time into the Select area. Press Begin Playback. When playback starts, press the Copy button once. After your audio recording ends, press the Copy button again. You will now enter the ezburn Confirmation Page. Press Channel 1. This will export your audio file to the drive. 12

13 Please note that there is the maximum time for the deterrent file of 5 seconds. Configuring the DVR to apply the user defined digital deterrent file Go to Main Menu Event Setup Per Channel Config Digital Deterrent. Change Digital Deterrent to User Defined. User Defined will run the newly defined digital deterrent file when an event is triggered 13
