We recommend using a power supply with an output current rating of 5 A. 2.1mm barrel jack. 2 Aux Power 12Vdc - 24Vdc depending on power supply voltage. Typically used to supply power to a powered trigger device. Can also power controller from Aux Power terminals instead of standard barrel jack if desired. 3 Trigger 1 Normally Open or Normally Closed Contact. 5Vdc 24Vdc. Optically Isolated. 4 Outputs 8 Solid State Output (12Vdc 24Vdc depending on power supply voltage) 500 ma Max Each. Outputs 1-4 are PWM Effect Capable. 5 Play/Rec/Stop Button This button is used to play a scene that has been programmed on the controller. This button is also used to help with programming and can be used to stop scene playback. 6 Button 1, Button 2, These buttons are used when recording a scene. When pressed while Button 3, Button 4 programming these buttons will toggle the state of the outputs. 7 Audio Amplifier Stereo output (one left and one right speaker). 8- ohm speakers only. 20 Watts Output max each channel. 8 Audio Out 1/8 audio output (volume level controlled by controller) 9 Audio In 1/8 audio input (volume level controlled by source) 10 Micro SD Slot Micro SD card required. All scenes and MP3s are stored on SD Card 11 Programming Header Used to program Kore Effects Series controllers via Kore Link Software. Requires Kore Effects Programming Cable (KEPC). 12 PWR LED Helps to determine if the controller is getting power. 13 ACT LEDS LED 1 = Effect Type, LED 2 = Scare Mode, LED 3 = Idle Mode, LED 4 = Outputs 5 8. Page 3 13
Power How to select the right power supply: This depends upon the devices that you want to animate or control. If you want to control a 12Vdc solenoid then you are going to want to use a 12Vdc power supply as the voltage of the solid state outputs reflect that of the input. In other words, what you put in you also get out. The amount of current that your power supply will need to be rated for will again depend on what it is that you are controlling. Kore Effects Series controllers draw.05 A of current in steady state or without any devices connected to it. This means that.05 A for the controller must be factored in when sizing your power supply. With that said a couple of examples have been provided below. Note: We recommend only using regulated power supplies to ensure that the maximum or minimum operating voltages are not exceeded. We also recommend that power supplies are ground coupled. Example 12 Vdc: 8 x 500 ma solenoid ma Powered Trigger + 50 ma Kore Effects Plus = 4.3 A power supply This scenario would call for a power supply that is rated for a minimum of 2.3 A; we would recommend a 5 A power supply. Example 24 Vdc: 3 x 500 ma solenoids + 0 ma Passive Trigger + 50 ma Kore Effects Plus = 1.55 A power supply This scenario would call for a power supply that is rated for a minimum of 1.55 A, we would recommend a 2 A power supply. How to connect your power supply: A Kore Effects Series controller can be powered one of two ways. Either using the 2.1mm barrel jack located towards the top left corner of the controller or the Aux Power terminal (black terminal) located just left of the trigger jack (green terminal). This is shown below. Page 4 13
Outputs Solid State Output: Kore Effects Series controllers are equipped with two or four dual channel solid-state chips depending upon the controller. These chips are capable of supplying up to 500 ma max to each channel of output at a voltage of 12Vdc to 24Vdc. The chip that is used in Kore Effects Series controllers is designed to protect the controller from the peripheral devices that may be connected to the two outputs. What does this mean? This means, in the event that a peripheral device exceeding the controller limitations is connected or a short occurs, the chip should fail and protect the digital circuitry in the controller. If this event does occur, the controller can be opened and the solid-state chip can simply be replaced. Hooking devices up to the Solid State outputs: It is really easy to connect 12Vdc to 24Vdc devices to the outputs of Kore Effects Series controllers. Keep in mind that the output voltage of the controller reflects that of the power supply voltage. Shown below is a simple hookup diagram. This is a very generalized application to show simple hook up. The DC devices shown can be anything from a solenoid to small DC motors or even devices as simple as LEDs, all of which should not exceed 500 ma each. Note: Make sure that the red and black wires are never shorted together as this will cause an overcurrent scenario on your solid-state output(s) and cause them to malfunction. In the event of an overcurrent you will need to replace the solid-state chip that has been faulted. A tutorial for this can be found at Page 5 13
Triggers The Kore Effects Series controllers are equipped with one optically isolated trigger input that is compatible with both passive (a push button or a pressure mat) and powered triggering devices (PIR s or beam break sensors). The trigger is defaulted to normally open, but can be set to normally closed as well. Connecting Triggering Devices: As mentioned previously the Kore Effects Series controllers are compatible with powered sensors. Shown below to the left is how you would hook up a powered sensor such as a PIR or beam break sensor to the Kore Effects Plus as a triggering device. Shown below are examples of how different sensors / triggers can be connected. Note: The Kore Effects Series uses optical isolation for its trigger; this allows the input to be 5Vdc 24Vdc tolerant. A tutorial showing how to connect triggers can be found at Page 6 13
Audio / Micro SD Line Out Audio Connection: The Kore Effects Series controllers are equipped with a 1/8 stereo output. This output can be connected to an external amplifier to power speakers larger than the onboard amplifier is capable of handling. Please note that the volume can be adjusted on the controller. To increase the volume, hold button 4 and tap button 2. To decrease the volume, hold button 4 and tap button 1. The volume will increase or decrease in increments of + or 5%. Line In Audio Connection: The Kore Effects Series controllers are also equipped with a 1/8 stereo input. This input can be used to connect an external source to the controller. This could be used in conjunction with a video controller that would also trigger the Kore Effects Series controller. The volume for this input is set by the source that is plugged into it. It cannot be adjusted from a Kore Effects Series controller. MP3 files on the Kore Effects Series Controllers: Kore Effects Series controllers require a Micro SD card to run. The SD card is where all of the audio and scene files are stored. Mp3 files will need to be loaded to the SD card from a computer. Two Mp3 s can be placed on the card, one titled Main.mp3 for the scare scene or startle effect and one titled Idle.mp3 for the idle mode or ambient scene. We strongly recommend using a SanDisk Ultra Micro SD card as they have great performance and work well with all L2Scare controllers. Page 7 13
Speakers The Kore Effects Series controllers are equipped with an onboard audio amplifier. This amplifier is capable of supplying 20 Watts per channel (Left and Right) to 8-ohm speakers only. A connection diagram illustrating this is shown below. Page 8 13
Programming Kore Effects Series controllers support two different kinds of scenes. The following sections will take you through the steps to program two different scenes and get your Kore Effects Series controller up and running fast! Different types of scenes: Kore Effects Series controllers support two different kinds of scenes, a Main scene and an Idle scene. These scenes can be set to have different effects on the first 4 channels. Refer to the table shown below to see all of the different button combinations for programming. The next few sections will take you through the steps required to program a Main scene and an Idle scene in digital mode. Programming Mode Buttons PPR Main Scene in digital mode X Main Scene with Strobe X X Main Scene with Fade X X Main Scene with Candle Flicker X X Idle Scene in digital mode X X Idle Scene with Strobe X X X Idle Scene with Fade X X X Idle Scene with Candle Flicker X X X Increase Effect Speed X X Decrease Effect Speed X X Increase Volume X X Decrease Volume X X Page 9 13
Idle Scene: Idle mode is the mode that Kore Effects Series controllers are in when a Main scene is not being executed. Idle mode will continuously loop the idle scene until interrupted by a triggering event. Shown below are the basic steps to program an idle scene on your Kore Effects series controller. Note: If you do not wish to have an idle scene present on your Kore Effects series prop controller, simply record a blank mode by following step 1, 3, & 5 from above, in other words, after initiating recording simply end recording immediately making sure that you do not press any output buttons. Page 10 13
Main Scene: Scare mode is the mode that Kore Effects Series controllers are in when an Idle scene is not being executed. A Main scene will begin when the idle scene is interrupted by a triggering event. Shown below are the basic steps to program an idle scene on your Kore Effects series controller. Page 11 13
Computer Programming The Kore Effects Series controllers support programming via a computer. In order to program a Kore Effects series controller via a computer you will need to have purchased a Kore Effects Programming Cable (KPEC) and download our desktop software called Kore Link (compatible with MAC and PC both). Shown below is a connection diagram to connect to a computer. Note: Please refer to the support section of l2scare.com for tutorials covering how to use our Kore Link software. Page 12 13
