1 Installation 1. Connect the power supply 2. Connect the WAN port to a spare port on your existing router, ADSL or cable modem with the cable supplied. 3. From a computer with Wireless connect to the wireless network UseMyNet 4. Alternatively you can connect a PC to one of the four LAN ports on the unit using a network cable. 5. Once connected launch a web browser and open 6. The default username is root and password admin Note: Some customer report problems opening the administration console in Internet Explorer 8. This can be rectified by clicking on Tools > Compatibility mode. 2 Set an admin password Click on System > Admin Password. 1. Specify a new password in both boxes. 2. Click the Submit button Note: The password should be complex as otherwise users could gain access to the admin page. 3 Setup Basic Settings. Click on "UseMyNet > Basic Settings Copyright 2009 UseMyNet 1
UseMyNet supports 5 ticket types: Red, Green, and Blue: Single use tickets of different durations. These are generated via the admin interface, the UseMyNet code generator or pre-printed code-books. White: Multiple use ticket. The same code can be used by multiple customers. Ideal for when you wish to publish a single code for all your customers to use. Free: Customer just needs to click an I Agree button to be given access. Ideal for when you need a customer to agree to Terms of Service for free access applications. 3.1 Set Ticket Durations Enter the preferred duration for each ticket type, enter 0 for unlimited duration. When the time limit is reached the session will be disconnected and any active downloads cancelled. 3.2 Set Traffic Limit For each code type you can set a maximum traffic limit as well as duration. For example "Red Ticket 5 MB 180 Minutes". Our software keeps track of the traffic generated per session (combined up and download). If the limit is passed then the session is killed. In the Traffic Limit settings you can specify the amount If you are unsure we recommend 20 MB / Hour for normal web surfing. Note: The traffic limit is checked once every 60 seconds, so it is possible for the customer to slightly exceed the traffic limit during the final seconds of the session. 3.3 Set Bandwidth Limit per user This is the maximum rate that each user can upload and download at. For example if you had an 8Mbps ADSL connection you may choose only to allow each user a maximum rate of 1 Mbps (1024kbps) to download at. The upload setting should set typically 1/4 of the download setting; for example if download was set to 1024 kbps upload should be set at 256k 3.4 Set White Ticket Code If a White ticket is required for multiple use enter the code here; for example abcdef Copyright 2009 UseMyNet 2
3.5 Set Redirect host Hotspot users can optionally be sent to a specific website when they complete the log-on process. If required enter this website here, prefixed with for example: Set Frequency of purge (Free and White ticket access) When Hotspot users use a Free or White session their MAC address is entered into a block file ; this prevents them using another Free or White session immediately. The block file is purged every 2 hours by default. If you want to enter a specific purge interval enter it here. 4 Set the Timezone Click on Administration, System > System 1. From the Timezone drop down menu select the correct time zone for your location. 2. Click Save & Apply 5 Setup Landing Page. Click on UseMyNet>Edit Landing Page The landing page is the page that new customers are redirected to. You should edit this page before first use by clicking on the "Edit Landing Page" link. By default the landing page has the code-free I Agree button. This should be deleted if you don t wish to offer code-free access. Edit the text in the box to add your message. When finished click "Submit". If you make an error, click "Default" this will put the page back to its original version. 5.1 Adding an Image It is possible to upload a single image to the landing page. To do so click the "Browse" button and select a image to upload. Then click the upload button to upload it. The image can be in jpg or gif format and is currently limited to 100 kb in size. Once the image has been uploaded you can insert it into the page by clicking on the Inset/Edit Image" button (indicated below) This will launch the add/edit image window. In the URL filed enter: /cgibin/images/mylogo.jpg (This is the default name of the uploaded image). When you have done this click insert and you should see your image in the editor window. Note: It is possible to specify images on external hosting but it is necessary to add the hosting URL to the list of "Free Websites" so that it is possible for unregistered clients to see the image. 6 Access codes generation Click on UseMyNet > Access codes generation 1. Generating a Red, Green or Blue code for a customer. Click one of the 3 buttons Red, Green or Blue to generate a code for that ticket duration. This can then be given to the customer to connect with. 2. Flushing unused codes. Click on FLUSH (remove) all codes to delete all generated, uploaded or used codes from the device. Note: Codes cannot be recovered once this has been done. 3. To upload a new code file (from the Code Generator or Code books) Click on Browse and locate the file on your computer. Click Accept new codes file to upload. 7 MAC address and URL exclusions (Optional) Click on UseMyNet > MAC address and URL exclusions To have a PC always connect without being prompted for code you can enter their MAC address via the "Admin MAC Address" Link. They will then directly connect without restriction. 1. Click Add Entry 2. Choose the correct MAC address from the drop down list of connected computers. 3. Click Save Copyright 2009 UseMyNet 3
A guide to finding the MAC address of your PC can be found here: If you wish to allow clients to connect to specific websites without entering code you can specify the URL here. For example you can enter the URL of your business so that clients may browse before purchasing code. 1. Under Free access domains and nets dlick Add Entry 2. Enter the website or domain (without http prefix) 3. Click Save Note. This function is limited to specific websites and does not have wild-card for domains, so if you entered on list news.bbc.co.uk would not be allowed. Also due to the complexity of some websites this function may not work correctly as certain websites need to make calls to other sites or domains to work correctly. 8 Manage current sessions Click on UseMyNet > Manage Current Sessions. From this screen you can view the current sessions and statistics for connected computers. To kill (disconnect) an active session: 1. Click the kill box next to the session you wish to kill 2. Click Submit Note: You need to refresh this page manually (F5 on most browsers) to see the time count down, new sessions appear etc. 9 Set a static WAN IP address (Optional) By default the UseMyNet unit has two IP address. The WAN IP address for the Internet port on the rear of the unit and the LAN IP for the 4 Ethernet ports and Wi-Fi Clients. By default the WAN IP is set to be dynamically assigned (From your Internet router). If you want to use remote administration or PayPal integration it can be useful to set a static WAN IP address so that the unit always has the same address. 1. Click Administration 2. Click Network > Interfaces > WAN 3. Change Protocol field from DHCP to Static 4. Enter IPv4-Address IPv4 Netmask IPv4-Gateway and DNS-Server to match your network. 5. Click Save & Apply Example: If your Internet router has the IP address you could set the following values. (Ensure the IP address chosen does not conflict with another device on the network) IPv4-Address IPv4 Netmask IPv4-Gateway DNS-Server Copyright 2009 UseMyNet 4
10 PayPal Integration (Optional) Overview Fig 1 - Example Network Layout 10.1 Setting up Instant Payment Notification IPN is the system used by PayPal to inform the seller s server the status of a payment. In our case PayPal s servers will inform the UseMyNet Pro unit when the payment is complete. In order for this to work the UseMyNet Pro unit must be visible on the internet to the PayPal server. Typically this will involve opening the firewall on your Internet router to allow the IPN messages through Static vs. Dynamic IP address. Many home or small business Internet connections have a dynamic public IP address, this means it can change over time. If you have a Dynamic IP address you will need to use a free Dynamic DNS service so that the PayPal servers will always be able to connect to the UseMyNet Pro unit. If your ISP has given you a static IP address then it s not necessary to use this service. Copyright 2009 UseMyNet 5
10.3 Set up port forwarding. On you Internet router setup Port Forwarding of port 80 to the WAN-IP address of the UseMyNet unit. This should be the IP address you assigned the unit in the previous section. Please refer to the manufactures instructions for your Internet router for exact instructions. Now http requests to your public IP address will be sent to the UseMyNet unit Test port forwarding A excellent testing tool is Enter the address as where xxxx is your public IP address. If you have the result Exit code: 404 (x.x.x.x) Request is invalid! Then the system is working correctly. If you don t get this then something is wrong with your port-forwarding Set up Dynamic DNS has a free service that can provide a hostname for a dynamic IP address. For example usemynet.dyndns.biz. Once you have setup your account on dyndns.com you can set the UseMyNet Pro unit to update dyndns with its current IP address. 1. Click on Administration 2. Click on Services > Dynamic DNS 3. Ensure Enable is selected 4. Fill in the following values:. Service Hostname Username & Password Source of IP-Address URL Force update every dyndns.org This should be the hostname you chose when setting up an account for example usemynet.dyndns.biz This should be your dyndns username and password URL This should be left blank By default this is 72 hours, this should be quite a long value; we d suggest 48hrs. We ve heard reports that dyndns can ban users who set too frequent a update. 5. Click Save and Apply 6. Click on System>Reboot when the unit restarts dynsdns will be updated 10.6 Test access with Dynamic DNS URL Now we ve setup dynamic DNS we can go back to and test accessing the IPN listener using the hostname we setup on dyndns.com. Enter the url where xxxxxx is your dyndns hostname. For example If you have the result Exit code: 404 (x.x.x.x) Request is invalid! Then the system is working correctly. If you don t get this then something is wrong with your dyndns setup PayPal Settings 1. Click UseMyNet > PayPal Settings Most settings should be self-explanatory. IP listenr URL should be either: Where x.x.x.x is your static IP address or Where xxxxxx is your dyndns hostname. Paypal currency should be the 3-letter currency code. Eg GBP, USD, EUR, Note: If you have multiple s accounts associated with your PayPal account you should enter the primary address as the address to receive payment on. Copyright 2009 UseMyNet 6
Exclude domains is a list of the current domains and IP addresses used by PayPal during the payment process. The unit will allow traffic to these address during payment. If PayPal change the domains or systems then the domains can be updated here. Please check in the UseMyNet Knowledge Base for the best current settings. Note: We ve got no control over any of these domains and PayPal may choose to change them so please don t blame us if they change over time Setting up your PayPal account for IPN 1. Log on to your PayPal account. 2. Click on Profile 3. In Selling Preferences click Instant Payment Notification Preferences 4. Ensure Receive IPN messages is set to Enabled 5. Enter the Notification URL which should be the same as the IPN listener URL: Where x.x.x.x is your static IP address or Where xxxxxx is your dyndns hostname. Note: If the router is off-line for several days PayPal may disable IPN Messages on your account. You receive an when this happens. In which case you must go back to the account and re-enable IPN messages Using and testing PayPal integration Once IPN is setup and the system is responding on the IPN URL the system can start taking PayPal payments. By default the landing page includes 3 PayPal Buy Now buttons one for each time period Red, Green and Blue - For example you wished to sell 1 hours internet access for 1 you could set the Red time period to 60min, and the Amount of payment for red ticket to 1 and the Payment currency to GBP. On the landing page you would edit the text by the Red Buy Now button to advertise this to the customer. You should now test the system before customers use it. From a connected laptop click on one of the Buy it Now buttons. Run through the payment process (you ll need access to another paypal account as you can t send payments to your own account) The process is as follows. 1. After clicking on Buy Now button you should be redirect to the PayPal page showing the correct purchase price and duration. Either enter credit card durations or log onto PayPal account. 2. You should be redirected to the Review Payment page. Click the Pay Now button. 3. You should now have a payment confirmation page. With the message You are now being redirected to 4. You should now be redirected to a Payment complete, please click button to start session page. (Hosted on UseMyNet unit) 5. If you get the message There is no paid access for you then the IPN system is not working correctly. Please review previous section and make sure it s setup correctly Troubleshooting PayPal integration Click on UseMyNet > PayPal latest log messages Here you can view the received IPN messages. A valid IPN transaction looks like this: Sep 2 14:37:03 OpenWrt user.notice PayPal_listener: (txn_id= gp374293y) ( ) Adding paid access for red 00:02:3F:92:DB:FF quantity=1 Tests from look like this: Sep 2 14:40:53 OpenWrt user.notice PayPal_listener: ( ) Request is invalid! If you are not seeing any IPN messages then the most likely cause is that port forwarding is not setup correctly. Copyright 2009 UseMyNet 7
11 Other Settings (Optional) Click on UseMyNet > Other settings 11.1 OpenDNS Integration The Hotspot come with integration for the free web content filtering service OpenDNS. Client machines are given the OpenDNS DNS servers and You can setup a free account on Once you have an account you can log onto your OpenDNS Dashboard Under Settings you can specify content filtering settings for your networks. If you have an Internet connection with a dynamic IP address we provide an update service to inform OpenDNS of your current Internet IP address. Under OpenDNS Update Service you can specify your OpenDNS username and password. This will update on each system boot. For this to work correctly your network Label on the OpenDNS website should be UseMyNet 11.2 WiFi SSID This is the name of the wireless network that your customers will see; it is set by default to "UseMyNet". This can be changed by entering a new name and clicking save. Note: If connecting via WiFi changing the SSID will disconnect you. You must reconnect to the new network name Remote Administration To enable web administration from the WAN IP address check this box. To access the administration console from the local LAN you would enter where x.x.x.x is the WAN-IP address of your unit. Setting up remote administration over the Internet is very similar to setting up Paypal integration: Port forwarding on your Internet router should be setup for port 8222 Dynamic DNS can also be used in the case of having a dynamic IP address. (See section Set up Dynamic DNS) In this case the URL for remote administration would be where xxxxx is your dyndns hostname For example Copyright 2009 UseMyNet 8
Note: If using remote administration over the internet be sure to set a strong administration password Status Window To enable a pop-up status window to show clients the remains session time and bandwidth click this box NTP Servers To specify non-standard or local NTP (time) servers enter them here. 12 Support.
